Fonero.be: my 2cents
Fonero got launched in Belgium.
(I am a Fonero* myself since launch. I have to admit, the Fon is not running now, since it has a conflict with Mac. Have to fix it soon.)
Some 2cents to the Fonero.be proposal.
I think the advertisement is a bit misleading...
Ok, you get a free wifi modem, but you'll need to buy the adsl modem anyway. On top of that, since you need to connect to the phone, you still need a landline.
The proposed offer of adsl for 30 29,95 euro/month results in: 29.95 euro/month + 6,85 euro/month + one time installation of the landline (which is now for free.) + adsl modem (approx 60 euro) + 25 euro activation for FON
Yet, the return is still nice compared to other services:
30 GB per month, nice for active bandwidth users (you won't get it elsewhere cheaper...)
6mbs speed is nice (if and only if that's true... I still have to actually see Telenet or Belgacom giving us real speed)
But the nicest part of the offer: free wifi access all over as a Fonero.
A nice side add-on is the POI map: a downloadable map for Fon accesspoints, allowing find Fon points by using your GPS.
Another nice extra is Fon for Symbian, allowing you to use the free hotspots for your mobile as well.
Why is Fonero.be really misleading in my eyes: because you don't need rent that ADSL line to be a fonero.
Surf to Fon.com, buy yourself the 40 euro Fon modem, and get free access to the same hotspots all over.
Or better, do the Fonero gets Fonero thing: invite a friend to get a Fon at 20 euro instead of 40.
Guess what: I still have 3 invitations left.
You want a wireless Fon router for a mere 20 euro? You better ask it sweet.
And tell me why I should prefer you above another... (And don't think I'll buy a 2 sentences motivation)
*Check the main idea of Fon: you give free wifi access to others to get free access from others.)
