Fox Messenger Bag

c0b4356c9f.jpg

Hmmm cute bag I thought:

This would be super handy- a bag that adjusts to your needs depending on how much stuff you're carrying around. Plus, a 15" Laptop sleeve is included.

"Ingeniously designed, the entire bag can be folded apart and reclosed to fit whatever volume you need. Locked securely in place with super wide velcro, the water repellent Wool Felt bag can be carried a multitude of ways and its orientation can be changed with the flick of a wrist."

A pity of the pricetag: $260.00

Buy it here.

Photography Floor Lamp

PhotographyFloorLampLitF7.jpeg

For just under $100, this floor lamp is pretty decent. I like the '40s feeling to it, as it would add a little bit of antiquity to a room.

"Retake of a 1940s studio source light, scaled anew for residential sets. Adjustable-angle brushed metal head angles light easy on the eyes with a frosted glass diffuser. Metal pole on raised X-base adjusts in height 47" to 67". Hardware included."
Buy it here.

Fictious Sex Rooms

2-1

A scent of burnt sugar lingers in the air in order to trigger powerful smell memories later, and a single mosquito keeps the experience from seeming too perfect. "Sex is dirt beneath and clouds above; it's shivering and shared heat; it's vulnerability and safety," Imboden says. "To cap its joy or assuage its fear is to deny its beauty."

For an issue devoted to life's milestones, I.D. asked six eros-minded designers to create the perfect space for sexual initiation.
See the slideshow.

How to rip an image directory online?

Does anyone knows the easiest way to rip a image directory at Typepad (or elsewhere)?
They don't have FTP, so you kind of loose your images when transferring to another host.
(Tip to Typepad users: be aware in advance to avoid annoying situations like this ;) )

What's with the new video fronts

Picture 3-20
Apparently a lot of websites use the video guy these days.

Coke Zero (aw, I really don't like the site..), Digibarometer,

I still like the first implementation I saw with it best: Ms Dewey of Microsoft.
And each time I get there, I enjoy her, for the easter eggs that is.
Try 'naked' and 'ho' (only works the first time apparently)
Hilarious! (Just makes my day)

More easter eggs available.

The camera story (part 1)

Frontview-001
As a professional photographer, I decided few years ago that the switch to a digital one was a necessity.

Well, not really necessity, but a welcome simplification of my job, as more and more clients requested a CD with images, which meant in those days: having your film developed, having it scanned, altering the pics, putting them on a CD.
Going digital meant: ruling out the expensive step of developing, and the work-intensive step of scanning.

I bought myself a Canon 10D, as Canon appeared to be better than the Nikon series (a lot of comments on slow focussing, and problems with the higher ISO)
As the 10D got stolen, I got myself a 20D.
Up till today I still have that camera, and it still fulfills my (and my clients) needs. (Although I really would want the 5D, I cannot grasp the idea of spending money on it yet.)
I didn't like digital photography so much, as it appeared to me that in analogue I got more control over the picture. The digital images seemed to have more depth that a similar picture taken with the same aperture (which turned out right thinking, as technically there is a reason why in overall digital camera's always have more sharpness-depth than analogue)
I solved that one by buying a really good lens which made a huge difference: digital photography became fun.

And it is the thing I recommend new photographers: if you're an amateur starting, don't buy a semi professional camera, buy one that fits your hand and spend the extra money on a good lens.
When you are more advanced, you'll probably will like the more expensive camera better for its convenience: the buttons are put in a better way. (I still didn't figure out how I can easily take manual pictures with a 350D.) On my 20D, the button at my thumb is the one extra I gladly paid 500 euro for...

When recently on a trip in South America, several people came to me and said 'Be careful with your camera here', and C will acknowledge: I wouldn't put the camera away. How else could I take pictures??
When my expensive camera got stolen in Israel, I didn't care about the camera, I cared about my HD's, if they were stolen my work of a year was gone.
I cared about the old FM and the 80mm 1.4 that was gone.

A camera is a tool, a medium to get what you are looking for: images.
Many people will declare me crazy when they see how I handle my gear.
Yet, for me, it is something I make my money with, just a tool.

The camera story (part 2)

Canon-Powershot-Sd600-Ixus-60JpgThe 20D is a professional camera, and as I am photographing quite some years now, I seldom drag it around for anything else than for work and for travelling.

(As a student and a beginner, you do, but believe me, after a while, you don't..)
I still had a Lomo and a small Olympus mju, but after a while, as small digital camera's became less expensive and faster, I bought myself an S50.

Actually it was a bad buy. It wasn't responsive enough for what I needed. At 5megapix, it had enough to enlarge pictures, but I never did. I never used the manual buttons I bought it for, and I always pictured with the camera on automatic. After 2 years of nagging about it, I bought a small Ixus, and left the S50 to my grandparents who are extremely happy with it up till today (they don't move too fast, so the slow response time isn't much of a problem to them ;) )

The Ixus was the best buy ever, as you can take it along everywhere, and I always have it with me. After I lost mine, I was happy to buy one for C. with, I admit, in mind 'Ha I can use it too ;)'.
I even bought the Powershot G7 with that in mind: she wanted a better camera, and was kind of tired of the limitations of the Ixus, I just wanted an easy camera to take along.

The G7 turns out to be a bad buy, according to C, who's taking pictures with it these days (and still in South America): it isn't as convenient as we thought it would be. We both use it to control things manually, yet, it highest aperture is only 8, and for me, the wide angle is not wide enough.
We both are so used already to the 20D that the inbetween choice (between the Ixus and the 20D, easy to take, yet featuring easy buttons to control your picture with M, P or S) hasn't turned out as the success we hoped for. I rather the the extra weight of the 20D than the G7, because it isn't doing what I want it to do. (And I am sure C. also longs for a digital reflex by now, and can't wait till I buy the 5D so she can 'use' the old one.)

(Ok, I am a really bad salesperson now, but I'll be selling the thing as C. comes back from the trip. It was bought in June of this year, and I bought it for 450 euro. It is under warranty. And has all the documents needed. Make me a good offer.
Although I just said, it was a bad buy for us, it ain't a bad camera. It is just not fitting our needs of 'an advanced user' A nice thing to add: it has a wonderful film modus and captures in DVD quality, for which I am doubting to sell it.)

So what are your cameras, and which your experiences do you have?

Mobile PhotoBlogging

Tour 2Mobile photoblogging is kind of cool.

You take a picture, press send and it appears online.
Up til today I only found the Proximus way, but didn't like it so much: it adds a proximus logo in the corner, and integration in your site needs an extra step (copy paste of code).

No, I wanted an app that uploads to my Flickr account or my blog, straight away. And since I have an N80 with wifi, I would even be able to do it for free when free wifi spots in the neighborhood. (Not that I am not willing to spend money, but admit, data-transfers aren't cheap in Belgium)

After some searching inside Flickr I found Shozu.
Works in a glimpse with a beautiful UI.
Is able to send to Flickr, but also to WordPress, Typepad, Blogger and some others.
(Unfortunately not to MovableType, but I integrated a Flickr-badge that triggers the pictures from a set (moblog) to my site.)

And best of all, it works with an amazing amount of phones. (N95 included...)
I guess some of you might start moblogging too :)

Rules and good to know... :)

Read at Proximus moblog site:

I guess quite some stuff gets uploaded on these moblogs ;)
