Fox Messenger Bag
Hmmm cute bag I thought:
This would be super handy- a bag that adjusts to your needs depending on how much stuff you're carrying around. Plus, a 15" Laptop sleeve is included.
"Ingeniously designed, the entire bag can be folded apart and reclosed to fit whatever volume you need. Locked securely in place with super wide velcro, the water repellent Wool Felt bag can be carried a multitude of ways and its orientation can be changed with the flick of a wrist."
A pity of the pricetag: $260.00

Photography Floor Lamp
For just under $100, this floor lamp is pretty decent. I like the '40s feeling to it, as it would add a little bit of antiquity to a room.
"Retake of a 1940s studio source light, scaled anew for residential sets. Adjustable-angle brushed metal head angles light easy on the eyes with a frosted glass diffuser. Metal pole on raised X-base adjusts in height 47" to 67". Hardware included."
Buy it here.

Fictious Sex Rooms
A scent of burnt sugar lingers in the air in order to trigger powerful smell memories later, and a single mosquito keeps the experience from seeming too perfect. "Sex is dirt beneath and clouds above; it's shivering and shared heat; it's vulnerability and safety," Imboden says. "To cap its joy or assuage its fear is to deny its beauty."
For an issue devoted to life's milestones, I.D. asked six eros-minded designers to create the perfect space for sexual initiation.
See the slideshow.

How to rip an image directory online?
Does anyone knows the easiest way to rip a image directory at Typepad (or elsewhere)?
They don't have FTP, so you kind of loose your images when transferring to another host.
(Tip to Typepad users: be aware in advance to avoid annoying situations like this ;) )

What's with the new video fronts
Apparently a lot of websites use the video guy these days.
Coke Zero (aw, I really don't like the site..), Digibarometer,
I still like the first implementation I saw with it best: Ms Dewey of Microsoft.
And each time I get there, I enjoy her, for the easter eggs that is.
Try 'naked' and 'ho' (only works the first time apparently)
Hilarious! (Just makes my day)

The camera story (part 1)
As a professional photographer, I decided few years ago that the switch to a digital one was a necessity.
Well, not really necessity, but a welcome simplification of my job, as more and more clients requested a CD with images, which meant in those days: having your film developed, having it scanned, altering the pics, putting them on a CD.
Going digital meant: ruling out the expensive step of developing, and the work-intensive step of scanning.
I bought myself a Canon 10D, as Canon appeared to be better than the Nikon series (a lot of comments on slow focussing, and problems with the higher ISO)
As the 10D got stolen, I got myself a 20D.
Up till today I still have that camera, and it still fulfills my (and my clients) needs. (Although I really would want the 5D, I cannot grasp the idea of spending money on it yet.)
I didn't like digital photography so much, as it appeared to me that in analogue I got more control over the picture. The digital images seemed to have more depth that a similar picture taken with the same aperture (which turned out right thinking, as technically there is a reason why in overall digital camera's always have more sharpness-depth than analogue)
I solved that one by buying a really good lens which made a huge difference: digital photography became fun.
And it is the thing I recommend new photographers: if you're an amateur starting, don't buy a semi professional camera, buy one that fits your hand and spend the extra money on a good lens.
When you are more advanced, you'll probably will like the more expensive camera better for its convenience: the buttons are put in a better way. (I still didn't figure out how I can easily take manual pictures with a 350D.) On my 20D, the button at my thumb is the one extra I gladly paid 500 euro for...
When recently on a trip in South America, several people came to me and said 'Be careful with your camera here', and C will acknowledge: I wouldn't put the camera away. How else could I take pictures??
When my expensive camera got stolen in Israel, I didn't care about the camera, I cared about my HD's, if they were stolen my work of a year was gone.
I cared about the old FM and the 80mm 1.4 that was gone.
A camera is a tool, a medium to get what you are looking for: images.
Many people will declare me crazy when they see how I handle my gear.
Yet, for me, it is something I make my money with, just a tool.

The camera story (part 2)
The 20D is a professional camera, and as I am photographing quite some years now, I seldom drag it around for anything else than for work and for travelling.
(As a student and a beginner, you do, but believe me, after a while, you don't..)
I still had a Lomo and a small Olympus mju, but after a while, as small digital camera's became less expensive and faster, I bought myself an S50.
Actually it was a bad buy. It wasn't responsive enough for what I needed. At 5megapix, it had enough to enlarge pictures, but I never did. I never used the manual buttons I bought it for, and I always pictured with the camera on automatic. After 2 years of nagging about it, I bought a small Ixus, and left the S50 to my grandparents who are extremely happy with it up till today (they don't move too fast, so the slow response time isn't much of a problem to them ;) )
The Ixus was the best buy ever, as you can take it along everywhere, and I always have it with me. After I lost mine, I was happy to buy one for C. with, I admit, in mind 'Ha I can use it too ;)'.
I even bought the Powershot G7 with that in mind: she wanted a better camera, and was kind of tired of the limitations of the Ixus, I just wanted an easy camera to take along.
The G7 turns out to be a bad buy, according to C, who's taking pictures with it these days (and still in South America): it isn't as convenient as we thought it would be. We both use it to control things manually, yet, it highest aperture is only 8, and for me, the wide angle is not wide enough.
We both are so used already to the 20D that the inbetween choice (between the Ixus and the 20D, easy to take, yet featuring easy buttons to control your picture with M, P or S) hasn't turned out as the success we hoped for. I rather the the extra weight of the 20D than the G7, because it isn't doing what I want it to do. (And I am sure C. also longs for a digital reflex by now, and can't wait till I buy the 5D so she can 'use' the old one.)
(Ok, I am a really bad salesperson now, but I'll be selling the thing as C. comes back from the trip. It was bought in June of this year, and I bought it for 450 euro. It is under warranty. And has all the documents needed. Make me a good offer.
Although I just said, it was a bad buy for us, it ain't a bad camera. It is just not fitting our needs of 'an advanced user' A nice thing to add: it has a wonderful film modus and captures in DVD quality, for which I am doubting to sell it.)
So what are your cameras, and which your experiences do you have?

Mobile PhotoBlogging
Mobile photoblogging is kind of cool.
You take a picture, press send and it appears online.
Up til today I only found the Proximus way, but didn't like it so much: it adds a proximus logo in the corner, and integration in your site needs an extra step (copy paste of code).
No, I wanted an app that uploads to my Flickr account or my blog, straight away. And since I have an N80 with wifi, I would even be able to do it for free when free wifi spots in the neighborhood. (Not that I am not willing to spend money, but admit, data-transfers aren't cheap in Belgium)
After some searching inside Flickr I found Shozu.
Works in a glimpse with a beautiful UI.
Is able to send to Flickr, but also to WordPress, Typepad, Blogger and some others.
(Unfortunately not to MovableType, but I integrated a Flickr-badge that triggers the pictures from a set (moblog) to my site.)
And best of all, it works with an amazing amount of phones. (N95 included...)
I guess some of you might start moblogging too :)

Rules and good to know... :)
Read at Proximus moblog site:
I guess quite some stuff gets uploaded on these moblogs ;)

Web 2.0: social networking... What's next please?
The famous web2.0 speeches we can all recall from a not so far past all included some keywords: social networking, input from the user, communities, and we certainly can call a few others.
Merely a year later, the user is sick of the social networks.
I predict that in less than another, they'll be screaming for useful apps again :)I guess what happened was:
web2.0 (as the idea) was working very well with certain applications, such as Amazon, Flickr, ... and Web2.0 got created (the marketing word).
Suddenly everyone wanted to invent their perfect Web2.0 solution, and in the making, earn some money with it. (Read: make it big, sell it to Yahoo or Google)At this point, the early adopters must have something like at least 20 logins to at least as many services. From which they probably use 2 or 3, or maybe 4. I truly believe that those they keep maintaining will last, while many others will die a silent death (or live on with few 1000 users)
Lately we got an overdose of new 'useful' applications that weren't so useful after all...
And the Twitters of this world were followed by the 'better' Pownces. Similar story with other stuff.
On top of that, the user must have the largest amount of friends possible today...
(I don't know about you, but I certainly am not looking for 'friends' in networks anymore)
Slowly people start to react: 'You are not my friend' as in 'who the heck are you?' :)People building new internet applications should do a research not try to make YASN(YetAnotherSocialNetwork).
Actually, if it were me, I wouldn't build YASN, I would foresee plugins for the existing ones.Nice examples I like?: MooCards for Flickr, the BBC radioplugin for Facebook, MyBlogLog for your blog.
Info that comes from the outside IN my chosen apps, or takes info from my chosen apps OUTSIDE to do something with it.
Widgets marketeers would call it. But Moocards isn't a widget, it something that is funny, witty and makes my life easier. And useful...More of these useful apps: for Flickr

Canon, Nikon, and ... Sony?
Unlike in the manual market where several brands were playing around, the digital photography market was clearly monopolized for years by Canon.
Nikon is taking back market space lately, which is a good sign, and is offering a wide range of digital reflex cameras, pro and semi pro.
But the others don't seem decent players in the DSLR market: Sigma did an attempt being a new one, Minolta has one body, Olympus a few, but they clearly focus on the smaller cameras.Way back when the first digital cameras appeared, there was some surprise to see Sony jump in the market: they didn't have any camera experience before, and yet they launched a series of hybrid camera's, with success.
Their main advantage was certainly the use of Carl Zeiss lenses: laser sharp. For a long time there were a lot of rumors Sony would make a DSLR and many of the avid Sony users were waiting for it. Sony and Minolta announced a joint development team, making the new camera based upon the camera experience of Minolta, with the same mount.
Yet some months later Minolta announced they would stop making DSLR cameras.
For a moment it was feared the Sony DSLR would be cancelled, but it wasn't.
It finally arrived in the market: The Sony Alpha, meant for the amateur, lacking professional lenses.
I still don't know it became a big success, I didn't see many of them. There are quite some new rumors going around these days, as the launch of the new Alpha got announced.
“We believe an SLR camera should be a part of a larger culture, encompassing the entire product line of lenses and accessories, and not just the camera body itself. To successfully create this culture, it’s not enough to offer a body and two or three lens options, which is why, starting this summer, we will launch more than 20 new lens models over the course of a year. Combined with the over 16 million compatible lenses that have been sold to date, we are bringing our entire camera culture toward an ever-expanding future for our customers.”
3 Carl Zeiss lenses included... And a pro body announded...Seems Sony is taking a second yet serious shot at the DSLR market...

Coloring for adults.
In the series: first look before you buy: this coloring book ain't the one you'd expect.
The „Colouring Book – modern ordnance“ by the artist Katharina Arndt presents 124 drawings of the very latest, modern, military equipment regarding such different areas as hand guns, helicopters, bombers, ships, aircraft carriers, submarines, knifes, grenades, mines, bombs, torpedos, missiles, cruise missiles, howitzers, satellites, combat robots, drones, off-road vehicles, HGVs and tanks. Ordnance that all nations need to wage their wars.
The pictures of the ordnance are displayed without names or captions - only the drawings to be coloured are given. The fact that this military reality is taken for granted in each country is reflected in the choice of a children´s colouring book.

Bye David
I just read the blogpost of Coolz0r, and am a bit lost for words...
I saw you picture, David, smiling. And immediately I wanted to read what it was about.
And as I advanced, I understood you passed away last night. And suddenly it hit my mind: you're gone. You, the ever smiling guy. The guy that stunned me daring to present Vista on a mac, and by doing so, presenting yourself as one who dared to explore and push limits... One of those blokes who made me long for boring Microsoft ;) (I know you'd read this in the right way, and laugh.)
I don't know what happened, and why.
But at this very moment, it doesn't matter so much.
I realize with a shock how fragile life is.
Hope you do well, wherever you are...Technorati Tags: david boschmans

Blogging and advertisement...
I never made a secret out of it: I am not too dirty to put ads on my site.
As one of the 'advisors for blogging' of Adhese, I knew why I was interested: to make the best out of it for both advertisers and bloggers.
Why, in opposite of many other bloggers, don't I mind ads, you wonder.
Because it isn't different from traditional media: magazines are full of advertisements, and everybody will agree that mostly it doesn't influence the articles. Secondly, in comparison to journalists, who get a wage for doing so, bloggers are just doing it for fun, but indeed are putting effort in it too. The extra's of ads are welcome.
So little banners in the sidebar ain't nothing spectacular. They are to me what ads in a magazine or newspaper are. With that 'accent': I will never put ads that don't go along with my view on life.So why do I hesitate when it comes to 'goodies'? Because it feels different. It feels like someone is so nice to give you something, but want something in return: 'buzz' (and most likely 'positive buzz' you hear us think.)
Again, I would like to pronounce, also in this matter, to me, a blogger should be seen nothing different than a journalist. Many magazines (like Clickx, ComputerMagazine and many many others) get goodies, computers, gizmo, games, books,.. to review.
And marketeers know damn well why they offer goodies to bloggers.
As an example google 'lekker restaurant gent' or 'kapper gent', you'll see bloggers score high.So at this point, my vision on 'goodies' is as follows: see me as a journalist. You want to send me goodies? Feel free to do so. But leave me the freedom. Maybe I want to write about it, maybe not. Maybe I like it, maybe not. I promise the marketeers and my readers an honest opinion.

Easymap
Maps made out of paper are easily damaged by excessive folding, which decreases legibility. Also, they are often very complicated to fold. Easymap helps solve these problems, because it's a city or road map printed on cloth. The textile material simplifies the handling while reading and folding, as well as extends the life span of the product.
WebsiteWhy didn't anyone think of this earlier??

Cabin in the woods
I once had a girlfriend who's thought of the perfect housing was: a cabin... In Austria.
I guess in a way it added to our incompatibility...
But when I see this cabin, I almost re-think that idea :) (On the cabin that is, not on our incompatibility!)
Olle Lundberg, the remarkable architect, salvage junkie and erstwhile Ikea designer, not only lives on a ferry boat in San Francisco harbor, he has a cabin up north (Cazadero, Calif.) that we'd die for. Below are more pics of the woody, simple, airy and largely reused environment he's created for relaxing when not working with head cases like Larry Ellison...Technorati Tags: architecture, cabin, design, wood

- C. came back! and is terrorizing my mac (making sure I don't get online in the weekend..)

Off the Grid
A two-year project, " Off the Grid: Life on the Mesa" is a 64-minute documentary that looks at a small, hardscrabble community in the New Mexico desert of denizens who have chosen a life of independence outside the normal conformities and boundaries of modern society.
It's a study of the runaways, vets and voluntary outcasts who live there and what happens when a community removes itself from mainstream civilization. Rather than becoming uncivilized, instead it enforces its own sense of law and order, right and wrong. When confronted with a thief in their midst, the well-armed and opinionated citizenry must grapple with instilling ad-hoc law and order in which justice is served while humanity is preserved.
"Off the Grid" premiered at the Slamdance FIlm Festival in January and has been touring the festival circuit since. Shooting began in 2005 and is principally the creation of filmmakers Eric Juhola and Randy and Jeremy Stulberg. A DVD should be available soon. In the meantime, watch the 2:24 trailer or catch the NY premiere at Lincoln Center this Thursday, 15 August 2006, or next week as part of Slamdance's run of docs at the IFC on 21 August 2007.
Gotta see the trailer! Really harsh...

Easy when you do outdoor photography with kids. (Inside the house you need the flash, duoh!)Everyone knows how difficult it is to make small kids watch the camera.
Such a tiny colorful distraction on your camera might do the trick...

"Because of the First World War, King Albert I decided in 1920 to no longer use the name Saxe-Coburg-Gotha as the official family name of the Belgian royal family. The decision was done in silence and not enacted in an official royal decree. Therefore there is still some confusion in other countries and even in Belgium that Saxe-Coburg-Gotha still is the family name used by the Belgian royals. The family name was changed to van België, de Belgique and von Belgien. As Belgium is a country with three official languages, it was chosen to employ all three language versions as official family name with none having precedence over the other, probably making the Belgian royals the only family in the world with three different but equally valid family names. It is this family name which is used on the royals' identity cards and which they use in all official documents (marriage licenses,...)
On the accession of a member of the royal family to the Belgian throne, his/her family name is officially changed to der Belgen - des Belges as to denote the fact that Belgium is a popular monarchy."

'Il y a un parfum de crise'
In normal circumstances, July 21 is the date a new government gets presented after elections.
Yet, this year, we're August 17, and no news on a new government...
'Il y a un parfum de crise', and for the first time we definitely seem to understand the impact of the dispute between Flemish and Walloons. Which to me is more political than anything else...Such a 'crisis' that our king, Albert II, is even interrupting his vacation and is going to have talks with all the parties.
This is definitely 'big news' as our king ain't nothing but a symbol for unity by representing the country in public functions and international meetings.Clearly this crisis cannot be taken lightly, as the main problem is the evolving separation of Belgium into Flanders, Brussels and Walloon.
Whahaaaaaan, some of us predicted this all along. Wondering what's next...

Big in Japan, sorry China
One of the advantages of writing in English, is the possibility to be picked up on the other side of the world.
Today a magazine arrived. From abroad.
When I opened it, strange fonts stared at me. C. looked at me with question marks in her eyes.
I glanced mysteriously at her: 'I am big in Japan China.' A fast wink.
As I started to look in the magazine and had to turn it upside down, go page by page, I couldn't find the article.
'So far for big in China.' my girlfriend smiled.
And then suddenly there it was.
I expected nothing more than a few lines in an, to me unknown, magazine.
But suddenly I found myself looking at a full page. On me...
And C., run out of words, stared at me.
The same disbelief.
(Yes, I grew few inches ;) )To my Chinese readers: Huan ying! :)

Earthquakes
I remember sitting in a restaurant in Paracas and pointing out to these stickers on the wall 'Secure zone in case of earthquake', smiling back then, because we were 'secure'.
I guess that already pointed out there is a definite danger in Peru, and definitely is a consequence of what happened in 1970.
With good result as only few people (compared to back then) were hurt.Nevertheless: Peru is in need for help, and the most vulnerable period is just starting as there is a lack for water and people start looting.
The numbers and the magnitude of the disaster keep increasing [beyond 500 dead already]. I want to dedicate this one post to collect data on how to help to the victims in case some reader is in situation to be able and want to do it. (For English readers this is what CNN is saying about it: Dead scattered in the streets of quake-ravaged Peru and this is my post in Global Voices: Peru: Online Earthquake Coverage also WorldWideHelp has updated info).

Viking destroys the rainforest
VikingDirect is a true delight to order stuff for work: ink, paper, even Coca Cola gets ordered and arrives the next day on your doorstep.
Free of delivery charge.
One big downside: they send you twice a year a big catalogue and each two weeks another 'folder' which appears like a mini catalogue in size.
I only order when I need something, and online. So no need to destroy half a rain forest a year.
So I mailed them to unsubscribe to their folders.
Same story as here and here, unsubscribed myself as well.It is a pity to see that we unsubscribed to useless advertisement by putting a 'no to ads sticker' on the mailbox, yet, our folders just get dropped on top of the mailboxes...

Love Story of a lifetime.
It ain't no secret: I happen to have a girlfriend these days.We are firmly in love.
The story? Genuinely incredible...One night, I went out dancing at my favorite party. Suddenly I was struck by this girl.
Later that night, after some drinks, I went to her and spoke the unforgettable words 'I know you.'
She looked at me with some disbelief in her eyes, a bit surprised, but also this look like 'sure you do...'
But as I had enough drinks, I continued: 'You are C., and your family name is VH.'
Her eyes grew of more disbelief, and I just continued: 'We grew up together.'Must have been my best pick up line in years, as the night continued and C didn't disappear at all. On the contrary... :)

One of those days love to skip
-The ordered curtains that arrived already 2 weeks too late now have a wrong measurement. I guess that means a lot of going around and more waiting. I am pretty sure I am not gonna be that nice, since, well, these curtains were meant for keeping the morning sun out of my room. Not so much summer any more...
-My upgrade for internet is not going through, not even after an hour, and as I planned to do a lot of work today, and I am not being able to go online at the moment, I am getting even more pissed off.
-Which actually leaves me with: doing the dishes, vacuuming my rooms, cleaning the living room. Did I already mentioned I am pretty pissed off?It actually points out the things I do online: working, shopping, calling, chatting, and a bunch of other stuff.
Would the rumor of the internet crashing (*) down would become true? And if so, what would it mean for you?
I guess here, some of us would get a nervous break down ;)(* lack of link due to lack of internet, grumbl)

Take Away Sink
I extremely like these designs: Don't know why, but it is something that seems interesting for application in travel vans and alike.
In domestic environments buckets are used in endless ways - whether it is for cleaning purposes, washing your feet, cooling beer or carrying something. With the “Take-Away Sink” there is no need for an extra bucket that has to be stored and that is often too big for filling it conveniently in an ordinary kitchen sink. Furthermore the possibility of removing the washbasin encourages the saving of water by the re-usage of it.

Diesels new fragrances: win one here!
Few weeks ago the guys at Diesel mailed me to ask if they could send me a new perfume.
I told them I wanted the liberty 'not to review it' because I really wasn't willing to write on something that might stink.
Today I received two bottles, a men's and female's version of their new soon to be released fragrance of 'Fuel for life'.
I guess they think I am man ;) (just jokin' of course I know they send 2 fragrances to test!)
Anyhow, nor me or my girlfriend are willing to walk around with a men's perfume.
So we decided to call in our neighbour as test-animal.
The women in the house smelled at the test-object and unanimously decided that he smelled very hot after a while.
The man himself decided after half an hour that he wouldn't mind a colleague wearing it.
And another half an hour he mentioned he might jump on that colleague...
(Note: our neighbor is gay, so don't think the fragrance will make you jump sides!)
For those interested in the way it smells: according to my roommate the man's perfume reminds her of Ralph Loren Sport.
I have to admit: I am not such an expert in men's perfumes...We also tried the woman's fragrance.
Also here the perfume got better after a while.
I am a really difficult person (my mother and girlfriend will agree on that one) and my first criteria in choosing a fragrance is the 'head-ache test'.
There are way to many perfumes that make you head ache. I happen to be extremely sensitive to it, and I was happy to find out Diesels Fuel for Life passed that test (It saved me from an evening of pain ;) )
The perfume isn't what I would wear, it is too 'sweet' for me (and actually I happen to have one that makes my girlfriend hot, so I am not switching in the first months ;) ) But we again agreed that it smells 'sexy'.You want to know more on the Fuel for Life perfumes? Well, they only get launched in 2 days.. Find out more here and watch the beautiful weird ads.
I am giving away the female fragrance on this blog (We can all agree that our test-animals boyfriend gets the male version to seduce his friend)
(What to do, you wonder? Write me something on 'Fuel for life', a poem, a short story, whatever. The best one wins.)Disclaimer: the bottles were send to me by Diesel to test, and to review.

Travelling van...
One of the things I want in a far or close future is a van to go on trips.
Both C and I look forward to find one and design a brand new designy interior for it.
Yet finding the perfect car and being challenged by its limits will take us a long way before the traveling van ever gets ready.A VW Van looks gorgeous, yet the more looking at it, the more I am convinced it is too small, not convenient, and way too expensive + too old to travel decently.
Any advise on where/what to buy + where to find info on how to build a traveling van? T get us dreaming?Photo via Marketrix

Arne Quinze's cityscape
For the duration of one year, Brussels’ Quartier Louise will be enlivened by CITYSCAPE, an impressive wooden sculpture by Belgian artist Arne Quinze. The project is a joint operation with the car brand MINI, who has sponsored the art project. Quinze: ‘MINI has managed to change the face of the city. It is a vehicle that demands a reaction as it is almost impossible not to notice. MINI, to me, is a good example of successful communication.’ Simultaneous with the prelaunch of MINI CLUBMAN and during Design September 2007 (design events running from September 9th to 30th), Quinze’s CITYSCAPE will be open to the public from September 14th onwards.
The 18 meter-high artwork is built on 12 meter-high wooden stilts. Carrying the same ambiguous traits as its earlier siblings, of which UCHRONIA (a giant wooden sculpture, last year built in Nevada desert) is the most striking example, CITYSCAPE attracts Brussels inhabitants to its outskirts like a magnet. It encourages us to interact, boosting new energy in a somewhat discarded neighborhood. Floating in the air, it provides a shelter to curious visitors, a place for contemplation and silence.Arne Quinze: ‘CITYSCAPE looks like a frozen movement; speed caught in time. It is a powerful means of communication, in many ways. If you look at it from a distance, pure movement seems to keep the volatile structure in the air. Sunrays play with the wooden beams; a game of light and shade creates ever-changing patterns. Its immense size – 40 meters long and 25 meters wide – absorbs you. CITYSCAPE calls for instant reactions, it’s impossible not to feel anything.’

Beautiful climbing wall
This is indeed a climbing wall, and is situated at the new Illoiha Omotesando fitness club in Tokyo.
The highlight is this climbing wall made of English stately home-style accessories such as picture frames and deer heads instead of the usual rock-shaped holds.
The Japanese designers Nendo did a hell of job with this one... It doesn't even look like a fitness club :)

Drink a Cointreaupolitan...
Here's the manual for a Cointreaupolitan
And below is our version of, titled 'Reality check' ;)Looks a bit different but the taste stays the same of course, and it has to be said: I was nicely surprised by the cocktail, so were the friends around.
It is certainly a cocktail that will appeal more to women than to men, mainly because of the pink, but also because of its sweet taste, I guess.
A should try.
What it tastes like? Mmmm reminds me of the Bacardi Breezers.
Thus indeed a perfect appetizer.
So spice up that old cointreau that's getting dust in your father's bar.
Hat tips: a bit more cointreau than ice, and it already tastes a bit spicier.
But start in time, as it does take some preparation and very seldom you have that handsome bartender hanging around...Disclaimer: The nice folks at Duval Guillaume sent me the Cointrauversial set to test.

This document looks at the underlying technologies that drive the digital cameras available today and shows how these technologies influence how the camera works and will hopefully enable you to make the correct choice of digital camera.
-
If a sensor smaller than the full-frame 35mm film format is used, such as the use of APS-C-sized digital sensors in DSLRs, then the field of view is cropped by the sensor to smaller than the 35mm full-frame format's field of view.
-
Compact digital cameras have very small sensors, so a short focal length lens is sufficient to provide an image that will cover the entire sensor. The short focal length results in a very deep depth of field.
-
Depth of field and your digital camera
-
The bad news is that it is much more difficult, using a digital camera, to blow the background out of focus, which is a pleasing effect in portrait and nature photography. You will have to use the longest possible focal length, and keep your lens wide open.

Digital vs analogue photography
Photographers talking to each other will definitely start sooner or later on the difference beween analogue and digital.
I never made it a secret I love analogue more than digital, but digital is more cost efficient, and our clients don't see the differences like we do.
I always said I'd switch when camera's would do 12 Mpix and fullframe. Reality made me switch at 8Mpix and go along with the APS-C...
Quite a difference, and frankly speaking, I didn't like it at all. It doesn't feel the same, I don't have the same feeling as picturing analogue.
I had a huge argument on it with a former teacher who said 'you need to adapt'.
But is is hard to adapt when your digital sensor doesn't do the things an analogue film can, or the lens doesn't give the same sharpness and depth of field an analogue camera does.
So I was indeed silently waiting for an affordable full frame sensor at 12Mpix.Why? Because full frame is needed to give me the feeling of analogue photography:
# Why does my camera have such deep depth of field even for wide apertures?
Digital cameras have very small sensors, so a short focal length lens is sufficient to provide an image that will cover the entire sensor. The short focal length results in a very deep depth of field. So with the release of the fullframe 5D of Canon I got ecstatic.
Today I am checking whether to buy one, but knowing it dates back from November 2005, I was hoping (amongst many others) Canon would release the 6D any time soon.
With the recent release of the 400D and the 40D, it doesn't look to well, but I still cross fingers they'll release something before Christmas. For those interested in the differences between digital and analogue and why it differs I refer to these series of FAQ, and the rather technical but very well documented wrotniak photo technalities pages.
It explained me a lot.Technorati Tags: technical, canon 5D, cmos, digital photography

On my wishlist: Off the Grid Homes: Case Studies for Sustainable Living
Six rather large contemporary residential architecture projects that integrate alternative technologies for generating and conserving energy are featured in Off the Grid Homes (from "somewhat on the grid" to "completely off the grid"). By the same author as Off the Grid: Modern Home + Alternative Energy, this book delves into different aspects of energy and resource independence, from rainwater collection, to photovoltaic (PV) systems, to gray-water systems and more. The case studies have lots of diagrams and explanations of technologies and their applications in context. Interesting factoid from the publisher, "A recent study found that after 15 years, an increase in America's alternative-energy investment would create almost 150,000 jobs, increase wages nearly $7 billion, reduce carbon-dioxide emissions roughly 30 percent and save close to $30 billion in electric and gas bills.". Paperback, 128 pages, well illustrated, $14.93 at Amazon. P.S. If you want small and off the grid, there's always the miniHome
