How to obtain an US visa...

Photo Dimensions

Now this is interesting:

A non-immigrant visa is still required for travelers:

  • who arrive on a private aircraft or boat

Ok, so we need a visa ;)

Update: I managed to get rid of the fingerprint thing. Yihaa. Now I have to find a place that takes pics of 5cm on 5cm... Anyone??

The steps to get one:

Step 1: Schedule an appointment using the telephone-operated system. Number: 0032-(0)2-7881200. Calls cost 15 euros (including VAT). (Thank you very much, 15 euros for 1 phone call)

Step 2: Prepare the required documents. Once you have obtained an appointment, you should prepare the following documents:

*a valid passport with at least two blank pages. The Belgian passport must be valid for the duration of the intended stay in the U.S.
*an application form DS-156 duly filled out and signed. For most efficient service, please fill out and print English form DS-156 by clicking on the following link to the electronic visa application form and present the completed form at the moment of the interview. Please do not send this form to the American Embassy by email or fax.

*for all male applicants between the age of 16 and 45: Supplemental Form DS-157. It is available at the entrance of the Embassy when you make your application in person, or you may download it in PDF format when you click here: English / Dutch / French.
*one recent photo with a white background, taken within the last 6 months. Size : 5 cm by 5 cm. This is larger than the standard Belgian passport photo size!

Please note that your visa application will not be accepted for processing if the photo dimensions are not correct. To check photo requirements and a list of photographers, click here. (Yalla, let's run to the 'suitable' photographer now...)
*an original receipt of payment of
85 euros (visa application fee) per applicant (a stamped post office stub or a bank record). This fee must be paid in advance into post account number 000-0829532-85 of the U.S. Embassy. This fee must be paid before the visa application may be submitted and cannot be reimbursed, even if your visa is denied.
*optionally, a large-size self-addressed envelope with a stamp of € 1.50 (for regular mail PRIOR) or € 5.50 (for registered mail / aangetekend / recommandé) on it so that we can mail the passport back to you. For registered mail, please do not use machine-printed meter tape, but regular stamps.

Step 3: Go to the interview. You present yourself at the consular section with the required documents (see list above).

Step 4: Get your passport back. If all your documents are accepted and the Consul has approved your application, your passport with the visa will be ready 24 hours later (weekends and holidays not included). Your passport will then be ready for pick-up at the guard's booth at the entrance of the Consulate.

Will or will I not succeed in this mission?
