Kopergieterij: Bal des Boiteux
Friday, there is a nice happening in the Kopergieterij.
Bal des Boiteux, presents 'Small House, Wide Open View' with 3 free performances. The Kopergieterij will be filled with art (amongst one of Bart and Emily, 2 friends of mine.)
The album was produced by Stef Kamil Carlens, and that should fire a light ;)
But hurry up, will be sold out soon

ComedyZone
These days, Comedy is taking over Ghent.
Yesterday we went to Han Coucke (which I didn't like so much) and Mireille & Matthieu.
Mireille & Matthieu was on one hand totally absurd and at the same time fabulous contemporary.
I thought it was fantastic. The humor was refreshing and well balanced, and the story through awkward objects was well orchestrated.
A bit too long, but never boring.
Perfect start for the festival in my opinion.
It is surely one to check out if you have the chance.
(I will post a little movie later on today.)

Big Brother watching me?
Yesterday night, while drinking some cocktails (waaa, so decadent, drinking cocktails on a Tuesday-night...) some friends were asking me whether they were checked, since they were friends of me, and since I went to the White House.
I had to smile, and I laughed their worries away.
I mean, who would link me to them, and more over who would link me to my blog?
If they check something first it would be
a. my files in Brussels at the BOB (yep, I have a file, I took pictures in a jail and for that dear ladies and gentlemen, there was a file created)
b. my files in Israel (yep, of course I have a file, I flew on El Al. Each one flying on these planes has a file at the Israeli security, otherwise you are not allowed on the plane, it is that simply...)
c. loads of other stuff I will not mention ;P
Who would think to google?
I mean, if you read the book of The Intelligencer, you read clearly how they miss the most obvious and freely offered information.
But I was wrong....
Last night, I opened my visitors page.
This is what I saw: (Click to see big)
US Government?
Visiting me?
Mhhhhh.
Ok lassies and lads... I am being checked on my blog. ;)
Let get paranoia.

Tv on demand
I believe strongly in content on demand: DVD, music, and I still don't understand why VRT is not doing anything to offer old documentaries and such stuff online for bargain prices.
It could create a new revenue.
TV on Demand is nearing.

Businesses fail more than last year
A recent study proved that in Belgium the average to pay an invoice is 3 months.
3! months.
No wonder so many businesses fail eventually.

Long live diversity.
Grinning:
This is for me the proof 'citizen reporting' and diversity work.
And blogs of-course.
The real danger lies in the possibility of becoming angry on opinions.
I was a lecture recently where a sociologic mentioned: don't be too personal in blogging.
I saw this phenomena already years ago at Photoblog, where the social structures are very strong, but also very vulnerable: a community can go against you.
People don't seem to make the difference between an opinion and a person.
As long as people keep that in mind, all is ok.

Spicy Valentine
Though I am very romantic (and some people will be ready to testify if one doubts :) ) Valentine is not my cup of tea...
I think it is too commercialized and I don't see anything romantic about going for dinner that night and being in a restaurant full of sticky couples...
Or buying flowers at a double price for that matter.
So in that perspective I tend to throw a little smile and offer all of you some ideas that might lighten up your 'boring traditional' valentine.
Durex just released 'Play Range', a series of sex toys for women and men!
You might surprise your partner and bring some spice on the 14th ;)

Out of bed, in line for papers
When you think you can be sick and lie in bed, reality bites.
When ones wants to work for a school, one needs:
a lot of signed papers that have to be obtained in several institutions (city hall, police station, other city hall, bank,...).
Some papers that reach the limit of my knowledge...
Again for Kafka.be:
-attest of birth: you need to get it at the place you were born. thank you very much... I mean: each paper, identity card, passport reveals that I was born in G***, so why do I need to go to that city and request a paper that proves that what is written on all my identity papers is true?
-proof of nationality: see former: this is written on my identity card, no??
-paper of my bank that I have an account over there: huh? I have a bank card, a copy of that is not enough? I mean: if I give a wrong number I 'll never receive my wage. How stupid do you think I am?
Welcome to my bureaucratic country...

iPod Video?
"In view of Apple’s increasingly cozy relationship with Disney, we would not be surprised to see ESPN’s Sport Center show up at the store in the near future," the analyst wrote. "In our opinion, the rapid increase in the iTMS’s video offerings is a strong signal that an iPod with a much larger screen is on the way."
Mjammie...
U might wait a little bit longer before buying that iPod Video...
Peter and I were already talking about it yesterday, while in the car:
The way we will perceive media will be very very different in the near future, and it seems Apple will take an important lead.
The rise of sales of DVD proves already that most people want to watch video on demand, on top of that, one has to admit: what does tele offer these days?
Series on animals. how to dress, how to change your house, how to raise your children and how to dance I, II and III...
We want different things, and we want it now.
The main question will be: will be be able to pay per download and watch or will it be streaming.
Skynet + Telenet give us a worrying evolution: a pay for what you see model, and then on top of that a pay for what you record model (I wonder when they'll start a pay for how many times you see it model...lol)
The version of iTunes is very clear for that matter: you pay and you get it.
Ok you can only see it on 5 machines, but at least you don't pay 5 times...
Are we going back in times here in Belgium?
I mean: Telenet and Belgacom TV charge much more for their digital content, plus you'll need to pay to record.
I stick to my old tv and my old vcr: doesn't cost me that much and does things as good...

What the *
Bummer-day today...
-Managed to drop a 'very expensive camera' thank you very much (and not mine, checking my insurance at this moment).
-Went shopping but got home without anything.
-The city was full of Valentine-celebrating people that don't understand the concept of love I guess: when became love synonym for shopping?
I hope I forget this day while at dinner tonight.
I hope dancing tonight will be more successful.
I hope fabulous people will make me smile.

Fanta and blogging
Personally I think the action of Ogilvy is over-stated.
I mean: how hard is it to send out 15 cans in brown boxes and ask them to write about it?
Me, if I would be working for an office like Ogilvy I would do something like this:
combined with sending the stickers to bloggers.
And a little photo-blog-contest.
As much work, but more interesting buzz maybe.
To me, their action is a missed opportunity... I mean I didn't see any beautiful post package, nothing special, just a brown box with 1! Fanta can inside.
I would have been disappointed.
With a little more effort it could have been something else.
They clearly didn't get the idea of Apple's packaging strategy.
Suddenly I understand why they didn't dare to send me ;))) (lol)
I guess that some other offices will not be the first to act with bloggers, I surely hope their actions will be more creative than this one.
(Sorry to say, but it clearly doesn't seem a very creative move for a creative company. Bad self advertisement, in my humble eyes.)

Cafe de Love
Yesterday we went to Cafe de Love in the Red&Blue, from the 'famous' Marianne Dupont. (which was crazy to do, regarding the horrible weather, taking us for ever to get there.)
The music was fabulous (compared to Saturday night), the crowd was crazy and the hours, well I might get old, but the concept of starting a party at 8PM and going home around 12PM seems somehow more attracting to me than start at 12PM and go home at 4AM and lose a full day in bed... (unless that full day in bed is with someone gorgeous.)
Back to the party: there was a message party going on, and to put it on someone's words:
What bullshit. ;)
(Though Miet might have a different thought about that.)

Murphy: your digital images not back upped...
Last night a good friend called: whether I could check her hard disk because somehow some images were lost.
I couldn't solve the problem: more than 600 images are gone. Nothing to do.
A full reportage for a newspaper: gone.
Veryvery painfull.
I know the feeling: I got it when I thought the thieves in Israel took my 2 harddisks... (Later on, I thought for a second there must be a gOd because somehow the thieves forgot one thing in the whole house: my back up hard disk, in full view on the table...)
Anyhow:
I store my important images on 2 synced hard disks, and I am thinking of starting to make extra backups on DVD's.
I was told that is not such a good idea, because DVD's don't last for long.
What do you do to make sure your images/datafiles are never gonna be lost in a disaster?

Good things about working on a school.
-You sometimes get a nice office (I do ;) ) (it takes 2 months to get material and wifi though..)
-You sometimes get a new Apple portable :)))
-Academic cheap adsl (which I don't take thank you.)
-Extra discount on Apple.
-Educational legal software.
-Remuneration for following seminars and extra school
-Cheap (healthy??) food at your school.
Sounds not too bad.
Not too bad at all :)

One of the most musically fanatic dj's of Belgium is always in for a challenge.

There is also a cocktail bar!

L Word represents 33% of ShowTimes online traffic
"L Word" Drives One-Third Of Sho.com Traffic .:
The "L Word" may be Showtime's breakout online hit, the one that actually gets people to remember that the domain is Sho.com, not showtime.com. In the weeks since the drama about lesbian love and lust returned for its third season, the show has been responsible for more than one third of the site's traffic. That digital activity helped get the show an early pickup for a fourth season, Robert Greenblatt, who heads Showtime, told the Hollywood Reporter.
"L World" digital offerings include "deleted" scenes, podcasts, a fanisode, video clips, set tours, character icons for IM. It's also a good example of targeted advertising -- jewelry inspired by the show, PlanetOut personals and the new Mercedes R-class featured this season.
So when does it go to iTunes?
tx Peter [yep, I think there are actually more guys watching that series than girlzzz.]

Bandwidth prices dropped amazingly.
I had a meeting with a partner/friend today.
He mentioned: thanks for the tip on Dreamhost.
The amazing part is, according to what he says, he now gets 6 years of hosting for the price of one year hosting at his former host.
And, he mentioned, all his movies are online in a work platform for use with his clients. Their bandwidth usage: 1TB a month.
It works like a charm.
All this reminds me that we used to pay 500 euro/month for 50gb transfer + 2.5 euro/extra GB for our PhotoBlog hosting.
That is only 2 years ago, and hosted in Belgium. (already receiving a major discount then...) Storage included for that price was 1,3 GB.
Amazing to know that now you pay for 20GB storage, and 1TB of bandwidth only 110 dollar (a year that is).
(And by mentioning the promocode 'matuvu' you get 20$ discount on that price!)
If only our Telenets and Skynets would start offering something more than the lousy 10GB download a month.

Apple and global warranty
Apple now offers global warranty on all computer systems:
Apple Computer this week expanded its global warranty coverage to its entire computer system matrix.
This is truly amazing news, because it means that you can buy screens and Mac Mini's abroad for much cheaper prices and still have a world wide warranty (which allows you to have it repaired in Belgium for example, instead of sending it back.)
Jihaa.

Valentine
Yesterday a friend and I played Valentine: we acted as if we were a couple.
Kinda fun. Grin.
The plan was to take me out to a restaurant and fool around the people, but suddenly we got an invitation to go and see a play in the Vooruit.
We hurried up, ate a good pitta, and went to the theater.
Well.... The pitta was good...

Buy/Not buy a car
I am an avid public transport user.
Why? Because I gave up my car 4 years ago because of moving abroad and after returning not buying another.
I have a motorcycle (a beautiful one ;))) ) but in winter it is just too cold to drive.
So I use the bus/tram instead.
My family sometimes nags about it: I should buy a car, and if I could buy this or this one because they are not too expensive.
The cars they are mentioning cost about 7000 euro, which is an awful lot.
Not to mention the extra costs (insurance, gasoline,...) it gives each month.
For what? For driving to the shop, being stuck in traffic jams and for going to a client?
Driving to clients indeed is the biggest problem in my case, but by now, with wireless internet, I just try to set appointments in certain places where we can meet in good circumstances, easy accessible by train.
Pretty much works.
It is sometimes hard, but there is always a solution to such things: autodelen.be, or other initiatives, like renting a car for a day.
Might be expensive for one day, sure is much cheaper than having your own car.
(And I admit, having the motorcycle and some good weather solves a lot of problems from spring onwards)
The result: I save a bunch of money each month, which I spend on nice stuff ;)
And you? You have a car?

Thank you fabulous friends.
Before I start watching episode 6 of the L-Word: thank you dear friends, who's names I will not reveal, for providing me with a busload of DVD's and, more important, the last available episode of the L-Word to get me through these horrible days (lol).
To SHO.com: if only you'd provide us with these episodes on iTunes, we would buy them immediately... (We will buy them anyway...)

Rumored...
These are just rumors...:
Amphetameme.org reads the tea leaves and carefully reasons why Apple is about to release an iPod "phone" which goes far beyond the everyday cellphone and takes mobile media to the next level. The site reviews a few key facts, such as the fact that Apple registered to sell mobile phones and mobile service, and is now officially a phone reseller. Plus, Apple has filed for a trademark for the phrase “Mobile Me.”

Israel's Official blog
Check out Israel's Foreign Ministry's new blog, which is all video, and designed to show the world the sides of the country that you don't see on CNN.
It's open to everyone -- any Israeli can send in their video and if it makes the grade, it will be put on the site. It's being put together by the consulate in New York, and its target audience is internet-savvy international youth aged 16-30.
Smart move, as Israel's image problem is bigger with the younger set, who grew up watching intifada pictures on their television screens. I'm sure there will be the cynics who say it won't make much of a difference, but it sure can't hurt.
When will Belgium understand that this is just possible?

Yutaka Loves London
Armchair adventurers and actual travelers alike will appreciate Yutaka Loves London, a slick flash-based guide to the city that's as amusing as it is useful. Yutaka cheekily narrates, describing everything from galleries to flights in terse yet detail-rich anecdotes that charmingly lapse into the third person. While lodging options seem to be lacking, the recommendations give detailed information about each location and they can be added to a downloadable 'to do' list.

Floating desk
In a former life, I was a carpenter during 8 months.
I just loved it: by now I know how to design, and cut wood into furniture.
My first self made* design was my desk.
Unfortunately due to the lack of (capable) men in my life, I never managed to install my desk like I imagined it.
That was until suddenly yesterday Kris came and took my desk, and returned it today, installing it with chemical junctions into my wall.
So finally my floating desk is actually floating (nothing beneath it!!!), and so to say: I love the result...
Tx Kris!
*From drawing, to cutting wood, til the final result.

.nu
Lately many people asked me where the .nu name comes from...
Me I just kinda liked it, since it refers to the French 'nu' which is naked.
But .nu is the domainlevel of Niue, a little island in the lower South Pacific.
I copy paste:
Back in 1997, Stafford Guest, Richard St. Clair and I decided to set up the private nonprofit Internet Users Society – Niue (IUS-N) to manage the .NU ccTLD. The goal was to convince Internet users all over the world to register enough .NU domain names so we could pay for the equipment, installation, maintenance, management and connectivity costs for free Internet services for all the people of the tiny isolated South Pacific island nation of Niue. During the seven years since then, the technical team working in Niue – technical manager St. Clair and development director Emani Lui – have been able to pull off miracle after miracle – starting with the island’s first free email service in 1997, followed by the island’s first full-time digital connection to the Internet in 1999 and, as of last June, launching the first phase of free national WiFi services in Niue.
For more info on the island:

No better research than having inspiring meetings.
The net is nice, but you cannot read it all. So go and have lunch with other web addicts and talk about stuff. You tend to get new ideas.
I fully support the idea of Bart to have such a meeting with a bunch of web 2.0 savvy webdesigners.

Broadband in Belgium: what to choose
Peter makes a round up: which internet broadband should you take:
Broadband in Brussels: sustaining that GB/mon habit:
'But now I want to know: do I have the best formula? So I collected some data. On vergelijking.be all the provider formulas are listed, but the list is not up-to-date. I collected all the latest numbers from the ISPs' homepages. I got some real throughput statistics from adslbox.be and ispmonitor.be.'
The conclusion I tend to remember:
If you live in Flanders and your main concern is speed, go Telenet ExpressNet Turbo. If you need loads of GB/month, go Chello Extreme (where possible) or RealDSL.

Coorporate blogging in a different way: Dior launches its blog
Dior plasticity launches its brand blog:
After many brands in France such as Vichy, or Celio, Dior Plasticity launches its brand blog, with 12 guest bloggers who will test the product, coordinated by a well known french blogher, Sophie Kune.
That in combination with what I read today in Knack (Marketing Offices as they exist will be dead in 2 years) kind of convince me that there is a major shift happening in advertising world.
And we are watching it now...

Waking up as an adult
And suddenly you wake up and you realize you belong to the world of adults..
When, you ask?
When people start calling you 'Madam' instead of 'Miss'
When you buy an umbrella instead of running through the rain.
When you want a hairdryer.
When you go shopping and actually look if cloths, rather than feel good, also look good on you.
When you find yourself putting little cremes on your face and doing loads of other stuff that you never imagined.
When paying for a 'pension fund' (and actually thinking about that...)
When you have a growing urge to settle down and buy that house/apartment you eagerly want.
Yep, one definitely changes over time...
(I can see my mom smiling now.)

The best way to predict the future is to invent it
We never realize how true that statement is.
Actually it is amazing:
I think about what I want, and somehow somewhere in this world someone is actually busy building it, allowing me to use those tools only months later.
I keep on repeating: the future is now.

Worrying things
-In 40 years from now our oil reservers will be finished... If we don't start to adjust our behavior in that perspective, our children will be in deep shit.
-We will become 'cyborgs', researchers are already implanting chips into other humans. So let's hope the discussion on these things is an ethical one.
-Cloning is gonna be a fact. Same remark on the discussion.
-The target for advertisements for the next 5 years is 'the kid' not the teenager or the adult. The kid. Be aware.
-The question is probably not longer 'if' we can avoid the clash between muslims and the western world, but rather 'when' it will happen and how to solve it.
-Internet is shifting the world, and certain 'ways', the internet is powerful. For the good and for the bad. We have to learn how to deal with that.
-Journalism is changing.
-The idea that computers start to think is NOT impossible. Try to chat with Msn Encarta or Alice and start to think about it. (Or read more)
"Artificial Intelligence: A Modern Approach (2nd Edition)" (Stuart J. Russell, Peter Norvig)
One might say this is a very pessimistic post.
I rather call it realistic...

The Skype Bunny - Nabaztag
The perfect present for your (geeky) lover is available online (and in stock): the Nabaztag.
Where before it only communicated with strange signals, by now, it uses Skype to talk to you and many more things to make you crazy about it.
And it moves its ears. ;)
The rabbit is wireless and you can put it in any room without needing a computer. Every rabbit also has a unique petname and emailaddress. That means that we can use the email forwarding features of Pamela to send recorded voicemails to a Nabaztag in any room or any location in the world.

The new marketing: Set Tours
Apple used to do it ages ago: send in material for the good guys in the movie (check it, in every series playing the guy with the mac is/turns out the hero...)
We used to see many things appear (Mars, Motorola Razrs, Samsonite, TagHeuer watches), and since end 90's fashion designers started to take the clothes from the catwalk and from Cannes into the movies. Good advertisement...
But now, it all goes several steps further:
You see something in a series/movie, you'll go to the site, and you'll know the details: which brand, where you can buy it and maybe how much it costs.
Already in Sex in the City and well adjusted in the L Word.
Fine marketing. Because: people go and check it out!
Set Tours:
1. Bette & Tina's Living Area
2. Bette & Tina's Kitchen
3. Bette & Tina's Bedroom
4. Jenny's Room
5. The Planet

The news media are in crisis. Rocked by scandals, attacked from both the left and the right, challenged by upstart bloggers and accused of complicity with a war built largely on lies and shoddy information gathering, the credibility of journalism as a whole lies in tatters. In a recent US poll, 65 percent of the respondents did not trust news outlets to quickly report on or correct their own errors, while 79 percent thought the media would hesitate to run unflattering stories about advertisers. The silver lining? During such a time of anxiety, upheaval and war, a level of skepticism this high can serve to fuel the decommercialization our infosystems, to break up media monopolies and to force us all to scrutinize the true state of the mental commons.

Newspapers loose ads.
The newspaper industry is spending $50 million to convince advertisers that it's not dying, trumping the $40 million the magazine industry is spending to the same end. I agree with Rafat: If they took a fraction of that money and invested in experimentation and development of new ideas, it would pay off a lot more than this.
I am writing this as a reaction to a mail I received today.
I claim that money will go to the internet to advertise, she disagrees.
(The future will tell ;) )
Meanwhile we see several web 2.0 applications being built with one certain aim: the integration of advertisements.
Tags for that reason is the buzzword. Because when you tag, you'll be found by the right advertiser.

Pandora discovers
There's a chair in my head on which I used to sit
Took a pencil and I wrote the following on it
Now there's a key where my wonderful mouth used to be
Dig it up, throw it at me
Dig it up, throw it at me
Where can I run to, where can I hide
Who will I turn to now I'm in a virgin state of mind
Got a knife to disengage the voids that I can't bear
To cut out words I've got written on my chair
Like do you think I'm sexy
Do you think I really care
Can I burn the mazes I grow
Can I, I don't think so
Can I burn the mazes I grow
Can I, I don't think so
Where can I run to, where can I hide
Who will I turn to now I'm in a virgin state of mind
Virgin state of mind

I get a new computer from work. (Apple thank you very much)
But I have to choose which one.
It is very easy, I would opt for the 12inch MacBook.
Except, it doesn't exist....
So, do I choose the 12inch pBook, with loads of extra's, or do I opt for a bare MacBook?
Knowing that: I love 12inch, it is soooo convenient to take with me.
All pBooks will dissapear eventually.
The new MacBook doesn't run heavy programs well (Adobe and Macromedia suck on it) and it will take long before they have native software.
The 12inch is extremely small screened.
The MacBook has FrontRow, a built-in camera and a cute remote...
Aaargh, such luxurious problems...

Design and retro freaks: attention
De Standaard will release a voucher on Februari 25, the voucher gives you a discount on the Elephant Stool of Sori Yanagi.
The Elephant Stool was designed in 1954 and produced by Vitra, for the opening of the Atomium.
I think he's pretty cool.
I think I know some people who'll like it too.
(Discount: 30 euro instead of 80)

Annoyances of an academy
Ok, so after mentioning the nice things (like getting a portable)
now the not so nice things:
-Trying to get an office.
I received a beautiful office. One problem: the wireless internet is not active, and the wired internet is not active either...
This will take minimum a month...
Ok, so they give me another temporary office for a month.
Problem: where is the key?
I have been coming in for 3 days in a row, yet nobody seems to find a key.
So I end up in the library (which I don't mind) or in a students internet farm (which I don't mind either) which doesn't allow me to mindmap my ideas, nor store my research.
Administration rocks in all these official jobs, and nothing gets done...
-Fix all administrative things.
Nobody ever tells you where to get material such as 'a buro' (the office is empty), 'a chair', 'a blackboard', ...
Nobody seems to know.
Nobody tells you where to get some advantages (like maybe tell me if I get remuneration for 'driving' to school and such stuff.)
It would be helpful if someone would welcome you and give you these kind of information so things would move forward much faster...
Hey, teachers out there, felt the same?

Why you don’t want to own community
Why you don’t want to own community:
You don't want to own community. First, because you can't; the community owns the community. Second, because then you become responsible for all the community's sins: See MySpace having to hire a safety czar who, presumably, will tell people not to be stupid enough to meet strangers and get murdered. Way back when, in the heyday of personal homepages, I argued to my boss that he didn't want such services because he didn't want his brand appearing on the 6 o'clock news with the phrase: devil-worshipping serial killer's home page.
What you do want to do is enable community. You want to leave control and responsibility at the edges because that's where it is anyway and bring people together with information and each other. The web is the social application. The challenge is to find ways to bring people together in ways they couldn't otherwise do themselves. Think the social Edgeio (below) or the open Flickr or the Technorati of people.
Oh, I do remember the days of PhotoBlog, and the annoyances of communities that sometimes are sweet and sometimes bite ;)

Skype Tags and Your Blog
Skype Tags for MT - Movable Type. How to add Chat tags, VM - voice messaging, and "info" tags. Add the code below to your MT templates and you will have active icons. There are a whole range of icons you can activate all using the same basic structure.
I used the "Author Display Name" field in the Author's profile. In that column I inserted for each person on the Skype Journal blog their Skype handle. Thus each time a call for my Skype ID is required I just refer to the MT field contained in . I also named the author template pages after the Skype handles. Thus multi-purposing the use of this display field.
This is the code for the four icons used.
<img title="I am.... !" src="http://mystatus.skype.com/smallicon/<$MTEntryAuthorNickname$>" style="border:0px;" />

Thoughts @ 4.30 AM
Why oh why did I drank too much champagne and end up drunk?
(Because I like it, u stupid)
Why oh why did I drank too much Pepsi and end up with a stomach ache.
(Because I hate beer...)
Why oh why do I need to get up at 9 AM and work??
(Grumbllll)
Why oh why does someone call me on a Friday at 5PM to give me a job that has to be ready on Monday
(Because I am independent, long live the independent...)
Why oh why does it seems there are no good DJ's left in town
(Because I was spoiled with an ex who knew how to turn the tables and D&tC who has taste too)

Conclusions @ 8.30 AM
-You CAN have a hangover of champagne... (Nurofen, more nurofen)
-NEVER go out till 4.30 AM when you need to work at 10. (Next time put a wake up call at 2AM so you know you HAVE to go home)
-I WILL be a pain in the ass today (Sorrysorrysorry, feeling grumpy.)
-Aaargh, how will I get my Elephant Chairs if the store opens at 10, and by then I am in the car to the end of the world to take pictures?

Discovery of the day
(Well, of yesterday, I forgot to post about it...)
Vooruit has WIFI, for free!
I always thought they had a Telenet Hotspot (for which you have to pay), but yesterday I opened up the computer to present something, and there it was, a free wifi network.
Fabulous...

Project: creating the KASK.be site
I decided to start writing about my newest project here.
I am setting up a site for the Academy in Ghent, and for that we need to do a whole bunch of stuff.
I mean: gather information, decide on the ground plan of the site, contact all different studies, discuss on the design.
When making a little site for a little company things are pretty convenient, but when working for large projects, things are quite different.
I will try to make reports about it here.

Democracy Video Player
The world's first open source internet tv system has been launched, and it's called Democracy. It's available free for Windows, Mac and Linux and takes advantage of open internet technologies to deliver an online video experience. Democracy builds on RSS, Firefox and BitTorrent technologies to allow users to watch, share, broadcast and download video over the internet as high digital resolution, full screen, continuous non-buffered play, on an open standards environment free of adware or spyware.

Silk @ Cafe Dirty
I missed DirtyDancing last weekend because of a sudden assignment (and a huge hang over the night before, I admit)
But look, there is a new Silk party at Cafe Dirty.
Our last Silk party @ Café Dirty was so much fun for everybody that we can't wait to do it all over again...
... if you weren't there the first time, Sandra (Namissy), Candice and myself (L-Fêtes) were heating up the decks with our music and enthousiasm, even if we missed a beat once in a while ;-)
We transformed the café into a gorgeous living room but with plenty of dancing space. People were dancing and chilling and chilling and dancing all night long.
This time, we have invited Baby G, a DJette from Barcelona, and Albane Courtière, to exhibit her handbags (made from lingerie, no less ) !
(Hey Peter, D&tC & co, are you ready?)
Does this give me a free entrance girlllllz? ;)

Google keywords
Always fun to check the google keywords:
5 tamar eres
11 differences between modern jews and ultraortodox
16 synonym for famous
18 got a knife to disengage the voids that i can't bear
19 videopodcast convert
20 site to unblock orkut site in dubai
21 take a parachute and jump
22 we are deranged
23 questionary of a bus company
Now this is quite interesting
18 comes out of a K's Choice song. ( I googled my own site to remember that...)
22 comes from Markus Schinwald's 'Dictio Pii' which I saw in London, and was stunning
I wonder who googled Tamar.
And 'questionary of a bus company'??? Mhhh, uhm.
Should be questionnaire, I learned by now.
Synonym for famous and you end up on my blog. Wallah...

TV On Demand
Missed your favorite item on TV? Did you know VRT offers a re-view of it via VideoOnDemand, a feature available on Telenet Digital, and it will be soon available on Belgacom TV too.
VTM does the same btw, TV On Demand.
It is finally there.
But ladies and gentlemen, it will take money out of your wallet (and so does the recording of it). ;)
Want to play things cheap? Keep your old cable, ad the old vcr/dvd recorder and program it, using your good old Humo.
Want to keep things simple and brand new technology: be ready to pay for it.
When was the last time I really watched tele?
Hmmmmm, must be more than a month ago.
Who needs tele anyway? (I mean tell me, what is on that might take my breath away?)

Mashup Mania
Creative applications that can be produced by any Web surfer with time and an agenda are nothing new. In fact, they existed even before the giant search-engine company gave people all over the world the tools to create personal maps on the basis of its system. However, while mashup applications based on the mapping technology of Google (http://maps.google.com) or Yahoo (http://maps.yahoo.com) had previously been perceived as a hobby for computer geeks, now, in New York at least, they have become mainstream tools that serve everyone and do not require any special affinity for technology.

Move or apartment therapy...
Ok, it is for sure now, I want to move.

But as we are 7 months further, it seems that finding a house is much more difficult than thought, and more and more people say that I should wait.

Del.icio.us bookmarks search via Spotlight
DownloadSquad has found this sweet plugin for Spotlight that makes your del.icio.us bookmarks searchable. It works by importing your bookmarks to a file on your machine every 30 minutes. That file is then treated like any other file, and indexed by Spotlight.

Online TV Recorder
OnlineTvRecorder.com is like TiVo, only that you don't need any hardware (not even a TV) -- all shows are recorded through this service and made available as download afterwards. Registering is free.
Weird and with loads of German stuff on it.
But the idea is pretty nice: you select a program, and it records it for you and stores it online. Afterwards you download it. Handy for people like me who don't have cable..
Trying it out now.
