Habana

Arrived good and well in Habana.
I want to thank all of you for your generous tips on Habana. Especially the Tomys Hostel tip, which turned out a real help for me (in my search for a place to sleep)

Habana is expensive, very expensive, but it is fun compared to the boring weather of some days ago.
While being here only for 3 days, I already feel like being here for atleast three weeks.
The funny part is that it seems a lot of Belgians have had the same idea, and even some friends turned to be around here.
Funny but very nice.

Leaving tomorrow for Venales and after that for the long longed for Trinidad.

Not too many posts... since internet is way to expensive and I rather spend that money on mojitoś, mojitos, and more mojitos.
I ll drink one for ya all (nice smile)

Catch you later!

Back and jetlagged

Here we are again, tanned and jet-lagged.
Hope I brought the sun.

Had a TERRIBLE night in the plane with racist Antwerp people in front of me, and a couple of screaming Cuban kids behind me. You get the picture...

But you should see the smile on my face :)

Travel review on the Flemish blog -click on Dutch in the menu above- (I owe it to Wereldreiziger) soon.
Sending in the pics to the lab and will publish them on my Flickrrrrr-account. -soon...-

Launches missed

While away, I thought I might have missed the launch of a new Apple (April 1 was the 30th anniversary of Apple, a big event was forecasted)
But in reality, nothing was launched.
Except maybe... BootCamp, which turns your Mac into a PC in secs, officially from Apple...

I know this certain girl, who'll run to her dad now and present the facts: she can have a beautiful Apple AND officially run Windows on it. Two computers at once...

Nope, it ain't me ;) (But I am as happy, since it means I don't need an ugly PC to test my websites...)

Tegan and Sara, the singing gay twin

D-Ifitwasyou
They are the singing gay twin, and that sounds like they are part of those fairs with snake-people and bearded women, but actually they are pretty cute.
Ana keeps on msnning about them, so go and check them out: Tegan and Sara are the hots shots of the moment (and even featured in L Word)

Salsa

I missed Dolly but took salsa classes instead with Alfonso, our sexy Cuban choreographer.
3 lessons later I am not yet convinced about my salsa capacities...
But dancing will be done at Lady Janes next performance. And I'll try it salsa-wise. ;))

18 hours awake

I checked all mails, read most of the feeds I am subscribed to, chatted with some friends to be updated again, and wrote some invoices.
18 hours awake, and ready to fetch a nice sleep, and hope this way the jet-lag will be gone fast...

Because tomorrow, real work starts again...

Clearly jetlagged, because working til 1 AM can't be a good sign of coming back of a vacation...

Splash Bird

Anyhow. Guess who is going to Peaches next Tuesday...
Peaches is giving an exclusive -only on invitation- concert/dj set in DirtyDancing.
And guess who is also there: Lady Jane....

Well well. Might be a shiny return to Belgium after all.
(Hurry up to get an invitation too.)

Ana, I know you envy me now ;)

CMS found

Solutions Ee Top
While working on a project some years ago, I implemented ExpressionEngine because of its fabulous user-management.

But the usability sucked. I mean, really sucked.

While looking into the perfect blog/CMS system for our school, we checked it again. (I must admit: Harold tested it again, after my comparison post)
And now we both love it: it is the tool he has always been looking for, and by now, the user interface rocks.
Anyone who uses WordPress will recognize it, but it is so much more powerful.

Expressionengine rocks these days.
Now only add an AJAX-visualisation to the entry and I can switch.
(Will start testing soon...)

TV Moves Aggressively to the Internet

News Corp's Fox network has signed a six-year agreement with its affiliates that will allow it to show reruns of its television programs on the Internet.

ABC, CBS and NBC are all making similar experiments, and iTunes has a number of television shows available for download. The space is evolving fast. For example, experiments are being considered that will stop people from fast forwarding through commercials (bad idea) after a new study was published that say people skip ads in recorded shows (surprise!).

This is an area that we are turning our attention to. Expect upcoming reviews of the current state of the market for tv shows and movies on the Internet. And we'll be looking at these in light of the 'free' if illegal services that people are already using.

Download bittorrent podcasts with iTunes

I stated already months ago that the downside of podcasts is their bandwidth usage.
P2P might solve it, so Bittorrent is a nice alternative.
And see: iTorrent arrives

iTunes is a great music player, but it sucks as a podcast aggregator. The most important feature it doesn't have is bittorrent support. I hope that they will add this feature in the near future, but for now iTorrent can help us. iTorrent is a bunch of python scripts, allowing iTunes to download bittorrent podcasts.

Courtisane

Midden
Despite the fact that I didn't want to spent any more money after the Cuban trip and the Paris weekend, I don't seem to manage that vow...

I mean, spring has started and events are popping up like daisies in the garden...

Tonight there was Courtisane, Zabine reminded me.
So I went.

Block 9: 'Anywhere, anyone' seemed promising and started fabulous by the short of Shelly Silver 'What I am looking for'
It was already presented in the MOMA, and the centre Pompidou, and it showed.
For me, it was inspiring, and made me think about my photography and 'what I am looking for'
All the rest, frankly speaking, was not my cup of tea..

Courtisane, until April 23. In Vooruit, Ghent.

Aaaargh, the limitation of being on only one place

One night I was talking to this amazing thinker, who was fantasizing how we might evolve.
She stated that before telephones were cables and now things are cable-less and we are still able to transfer stuff through the air.
So actually thinking of transferring 'ourselves' or transferring 'our ideas' through air suddenly isn't that 'science fiction' anymore.

We both drunk too much and we had loads of fun talking abstract.
But later on, the ideas stayed: she was indeed right, imaging being able to be in different places...

It would be very convenient these days:
Friday there is 1) BlogCom in Antwerp, 2) Hisk Ravenstein Galleries 4) Art Brussels in Brussels 5) CatClub in Brussels.
Now there is a tiny possibility to do this all in one night.

But imagine, just imagine for a sec. ;)

Imagine reBlogger

Imagine bloggers diversifying themselves into many different types of news editors and reporters. Imagine those wanting to extract a professional reward out of this job to lean either toward extreme specialization, on topics and issues that few others cover, or on the exact opposite: becoming aggregators and filterers, newsmasters, of the myriad specialized news feeds belonging to a broader content category.

Just as we are starting to see the emergence of large new aggregators of content online moving their first pioneering steps, expect the same process to take place at a much more granular level for all of the news and information that is out there.

There is a huge, infinite market for quality, filtered information on specialized topics out there.

Exclusive inside

Ok, so I was invited to the Microsoft headquarters in Brussels, for an exclusive view on MSN's future (with a bunch of other bloggers) and to listen to the pretty alternative Phil Holden.
As a total Apple freak I had to go and see.
I have to say, most of the stuff was totally new, since I never used it.

Img 0723
Very often I had the idea 'hmmm, I recognize this from somewhere' but then with more AJAX effects.

I have to admit: I love the Windows Live Messenger Idea.
And I am sure their spaces stuff will work for my grandfather and so, but I'll never work with it since well... I appear to be that kind of geek that wants to adapt things herself. Not mainstream...
And the idea of the regular phone connected to your Live 'passport' was pretty attracting -but I'll wait for the Apple iPhone anyway...-.
Life search was interesting and needs to be checked out.

Img 0729

Phil Holden

Update: LVB did an excellent review, so did Coolz0r as expected (and I am just too lazy to do so..)

For those readers amongst you that are Windows fans:
Windows Live Messenger
Windows Live Mail
Windows Live Search
Live.com
Windows Live Domains
Windows Live Family Safety Settings
Windows Live Favorites
Windows Live Expo
Windows Live Local
Windows Live Mail Desktop
Windows Live Safety Center
Windows Live Onecare
MSN/ Windows Live Spaces

Apparently they are doing a lot over there. :)
If they continue like that with online products, maybe they'll even cancel their Vista launch. Lol.

Homo Top 100

A Kateryan
Tonight there is the Homo Top 100 in Antwerp, so maybe, after the BlogCom, instead of rushing to Brussels, we could just go to the Red&Blue *

The invitation is: bring all your straight friends: Pietel, the perfect night to go with your friend and dance the differences away ;)

You'll have to deal with this top 10 though:

1. Je T’Adore – Kate Ryan
2. Dancing Queen – ABBA
3. I’ve Only Begun To Fight – Natalia
4. 9 To 5 – Dolly Parton
5. I Will Survive – Gloria Gaynor
6. I Feel Love – Donna Summer
7. Je Hebt Me 1000 Maal Belogen – Laura Lynn
8. Diva – Dana International
9. Hung Up – Madonna
10. I’m So Excited – Pointer Sisters

Hmmm, seems the male gays have been voting...

*After seeing the top 10, I am reconsidering this idea.

Microsoft Live Drive may launch before GDrive

Microsoft is building an online storage service, code named Live Drive, says Ray Ozzie in an interview with Fortune:

Microsoft is planning to use its server farms to offer anyone huge amounts of online storage of digital data. It even has a name for that future service: Live Drive. With Live Drive, all your information - movies, music, tax information, a high-definition videoconference you had with your grandmother, whatever - could be accessible from anywhere, on any device.

This lads and lassies, means your data will be stored on an online server.
It is something that already happens in smaller networks (and sometimes larger)
But can you imagine storing all your usable data on a server somewhere?
Your private conversation with your mother, or your lover

I had a nice conversation on the matter with Smetty last night. And off course she's right: it is bound to happen.
Yet it is scary.
Privacy-wise, and also content-wise: imagine the servers go down for let's say 1 hour: no way to access your data anymore.
Stuff to think about...

Where to go and eat in Ghent

Next week I am supposed to take this nice person to dinner, in a nice restaurant.
Now the restaurant of my choice appears to be closed on Sunday (like most of the stuff in Ghent anyway..)

Since I am lazy on my part, I take this opportunity of testing web 2.0*, and I'd like to ask the input of my readers:
Which place would you recommend to go and have a splendid dinner.
Price doesn't matter, but it doesn't need to be high profile -surely not after my expats in Cuba and Paris...-.
And I'd prefer a nice and pleasant place.
In the neighborhood of Ghent.
We both eat meat, and fish and all the other stuff.
And open on a Sunday eve.

So which place would you go?

Oh and I tried web 2.0 style Resto.be, but seeing Tex-Mex in the first 9 answers isn't very reassuring.

(*Your readers/networks add content to your site.)

Example of simple but very good WOM

Nokia-N-91 Nokia launched its new Nokia N91 through 5 influential bloggers. To me it is the first and perfect example of a working action through bloggers: not too much buzz, and it just works.
The bloggers are doing all the necessary promotion, and even do more than they should. (If Nokia would pay some people it would cost them more than giving out 5 mobiles, and yet the impact is at least the same, if not much bigger)
Word of Mouth interactive. Fabulous.

And yes, I envy Peter for getting one ;)))

Gent is just getting more and more beautiful.
Yesterday we took a little tour on the water, cruising around.
Would love to live near the water.
Wonderful.

SMAK, Designmuseum and others

Due to the 'Erfgoeddag' all musea were open today.
I went to the SMAK and the DesignMuseum.

SMAK really rocked.

Here Install

I was intrigues by Kerry Tribes video, and there were a few other projects that really got my attention, like the featured Ives Maes and Recollecting landscapes.

Bannermaes2

Bannerlandscapes

Definitely worth a visit.

(DesignMuseum was not worth the visit, but I guess that's because they are building a new exhibit which opens next week only...)

iTunes Gift Certificates

All of you probably remember I got iTunes Gift Certificates.
I made myself an American account (due to the Certificate System, I don't need an American located Visa/Mastercard number) and I started downloading some TV series.

Darwyn Char Pic
Now as it would seem obvious to download Lost and such stuff (which I did for some episodes) it is far more interesting to download series that are NOT on in Europe.

Like Showtimes 'Sleeper Cell'
Men, it's good: it is about Jihad in America and the part I like about it (and apparently Americans and American muslims too) is the fact that:
-it is trustworthy for the facts about Islam (they don't talk out of their neck)
-it is trustworthy about police and mistakes (they don't have high tech computers like in 24 or CSI, and police just acts stupid in several episodes, like in reality)
-it is trustworthy in the use of language. (I remember this episode in LWord and others where one speaks French like, well, I don't know like what, but certainly not like a French person. Here the French and Arabic is really French and Arabic.)

I bought 10 episodes (Season 1) for 10$ and can't wait to see all of them.
And found on their website (which isn't restricted to only Americans, like L Word...): they have a podcast on the series, just like Lost had.
They also show previews on Showtime of the series.

L Word Online

I found out while checking Sleeper Cell on SHO.com that the LWord site is opened for Europe!
And I have been watching 2 hours of deleted scenes, interviews with handsome women and crazy interviews with Dana and others.
They even have podcasts.

Check it here
(You can even download a ringtone, or check the wardrobe of your fav and get their clothes.....)

Oh sure you can thank me for bringing this fabulous news ;)

I heart Ghent

Img 0749

I really love Ghent.

I hate the fact that the prices of houses are way too high, but when it comes to living the city: I couldn't find a better place (and I have to say, I travelled quite some places..)

Tonight I went to have a drink on the Graslei, with the wonderful and beautiful Z., and I really really enjoyed it: finally Spring has arrived.
The result: loads of people sitting outside in T-shirts, drinking very spiritual drinks. Quarreling about anything and nothing.

((One to remember: don't drink caipherinia (heck the spelling...) on any of those places on the Graslei or Korenlei, they don't know how to do it...))

Dahab

One of those other places that were like heaven to me (except for Ghent) is Dahab.
Dahab is like this little heaven of 'rest' but not exactly of peace it seems.
Dahab was bombed tonight. 3 bombs exploded in the center of the city.
Why? Because some extremist believe it is a place 'of sins'

Trying to understand...
I hope Jimmy and his family are OK.

Hey Fanta, do ya listen?

Read: 'Stormhoek has started sponsoring "geek dinners", offering to provide free wine for bloggers' dinner parties.

As part of its forthcoming launch in the US, the firm wants to have "100 geek dinners in 100 days", running from 1 May to 9 August.

Maybe Coca Cola/Fanta can start to sponsor some of our events? (Instead of sending 1 can to 15 bloggers ;) )

BBC Spaces/Live?

BBC plans to change its site drastically.

Mr Highfield's presentation, Beyond Broadcast, outlined a three-pronged approach to refocus all future BBC digital output and services around three concepts - "share", "find" and "play".

He said the philosophy of "share" would be at the heart of what he dubbed bbc.co.uk 2.0.

Mr Highfield said the share concept would allow users to "create your own space and to build bbc.co.uk around you", encouraging them to launch ther own blogs and post home videos on the site.

The BBC is also running a competition to revamp the bbc.co.uk 2.0 website, asking the public to redesign the homepage to "exploit the fuctionality and usability of services such as Flickr, YouTube, Technorati and Wikipedia".

Now this is again a sign to me that media as we know it is changing fast and furious.

Certainly to be continued...

MediaCenter

31470102-2-300-Overview-1

Yesterday, at Filip's place, I saw my MediaCenter combination I want for the future. (I had pics of it, but my mobile crashed today...)

The set consists out of:
A (preferably 40 inch, but 32 would do as well...) Sony Bravia screen.
A Intel Duo MacMini (which is ordered, and should be here in some time)
An extra 250/500 GB Iomega MiniMax HD (which arrived today, and I am filling up now with Media)
A wireless internet connection (Airport Express) and wireless keyboard + mouse
Connected to the audio system for surround sound.

Now the fun part is: you can run all your media which is on your HD through FrontRow. You can play DVD's, or CD's
Since it is connected through your stereo, it works like a charm.

But the nicest thing, which really rocks to me: you can surf on a 40 inch television while sitting in your couch.
(Ok, that might set a problem when you are 2, and one has to follow the other. But it is quite fun to sit in the couch instead of on a desk in front of a computer. It just feels better...)

I believe the future will evolve that way, and you will surf on demand to the last episode of Lost ONLINE (instead of on your digital television) and watch it on the internet.
In my eyes, the real nice content is on the web already. At YouTube or Google Video. Or in the iTunes VideoStore.
Who watches all those mind-collapsing television programs anyway?
A bigger screen gives it the real value.

I think I already convinced my mom.
Now convince my wallet...

What's next?

Now blogging has become mainstream, and anything and everything blogs, the early adoptors are clearly looking for something new. Dave Winer stops, Robert Scoble takes vacation, Russel Beattie considers quitting too, and many more are going to follow.

A normal consequence.

But the question is: what's next? What will they start doing then? What's the new hitch in the web...

F* my mobile crashed

Don't ask me what I have with mobiles (or better: what I haven't)
I must have lost at least 4, and got 2 stolen (maybe 3), and now my beauty just crashed...

My sis wanted to call me, but while trying to answer the call, the screen froze and whilst rebooting, nothing happened.
I returned it to the shop, since it is only 3 months old, and they took it for repair.

Anyhow, I asked for a replacement (which would be acceptable seeing my bills: I am a good customer...) but oh-no. I don't get one.
Their question: don't you have a spare one? Doesn't someone in your family has a spare one?
Huh? As if all people have more than one mobile these days. No I don't, and don't look at me with unbelief in your eyes. I just don't...
Too furious to buy that 39 euro ugly Philips that's in your shop. Too stubborn.

If someone from Sony Ericsson Belgium* is reading this: I am willing to write about your fantastic service, and about your fabulous way of dealing with your client. At least, that is... if there is such a service existing...
Hello???

(*You can reach me through mail, since, well, my phone is broken...)

Yahoo! Go: The new Front Row

Read today:

Today Yahoo! launched a new product called Yahoo! Go TV for your home TV entertainment, and I must say, this is the freshest thing to hit windows like Front Row is to Mac.
And not only does it do the media on your computer
Indeed,
it's integrated with your Yahoo! ID. Got photos on Yahoo!? Wanna share them with the fam in front of the TV? Y! Go is for you.
Got music with Yahoo!? Wanna have that playlist where everyone can see and listen to it? Go is for you.
Got Tivo? Oh yea. Even Go is for you as you can manage your recorded shows with this bad boy.

Clearly it points out the future: your content online

Nuff said, get Go now and check it out for yourself and give some feedback.

1-5-10

So there it is, it arrived: the one-five-ten baton.
Thrown by Peter.

1 year ago:
I came back from 2 years abroad (in Israel) and feeling not so well, since well, I was back in Belgium and somehow the adaptation to real life wasn't that easy.
I think it was hard because compared to Israel, Belgium is so 'unstressed'. No tension in the air, no adrenaline to live on.
I was working at my dad's place as a carpenter (yes, really) and I built kitchens in very expensive houses.
Working with my hands was a real delight, I mean, in the end there was this kitchen, a real thing, that once was nothing more than a pile of wood. A wonderful feeling compared to all the ideas and computer stuff that is, well, quite dust in the air in the end.
But it wasn't what I aimed for. 3 months later I would choose to be independent. And jump into the 'nothing'. One month after that, i suddenly found myself on a flight to Hong Kong. Weird world.

5 years ago:
I guess I was in Iraq 5 years ago at this time. Saddam was still ruling and we were stunned to see what the embargo did to the people. It was so wrong.
We all knew a war was going to happen soon, and preparations were being made. You should have seen the soldiers, with their lousy weapons.
No way they would ever win a war with those... (Now Iraq is a country where insurgents blow up them selves and I am sure Al Quaeda is the only one making profit out of this disaster...)
Back then my dream was already to travel the world. And change it by being a journalist.
I guess I was more naive back then, with more dreams. And the urge to change things.
I guess some things haven't changed after the years, but some did.Today I believe change is possible, but in the smaller things.
In September I left for Israel, another big jump into nothingness, to study a post graduate at Bezalel.
It was the most daring thing I ever did: I quit my job, sold my car, left everything behind, got on a plane with 20 kilo of luggage for 8 months, and without knowing ANYONE at the place I was going to (Tel Aviv). I was scared to death, but too proud to admit...

10 years ago:
The end of my first year in Ghent. With loads of love and loads of drama.
I didn't pass my first year of photography (though after that 'failure', I passed each year with distinction.) and was very confused. But also very in love. It was a splendid Spring, and we drove in a '2pk' 'decapotable' in Ghent, while the Pixies were singing 'Where is my mind?'
I didn't know what I was doing or what I wanted.

Today I still shout 'Where is my mind', and I still don't know what I want in life.
But that's quite OK.

Throwing the baton to: n00.be, Kris Khaira, and Lisa

Madeline Allbright speaks out

I happened to meet Madeline Allbright on the trip to the US.
I didn't have the chance to speak to her (and I would have been too shy anyway)

She speaks out, and loud:

What we're trying to do right now is to get as many people on our side as possible. That after all is fundamental to the U.S. national interest — to get other countries to agree with what we're doing and to be supportive.
But where it has gotten off track is when the choice has been framed in a way that narrows the numbers of people that can support us.
Right after 9/11, President Bush was saying we were against the terrorists.
And so people who were definitely opposed to seeing airplains fly into the Twin Towers, who were against acts of terror, could be on our side.
But when the choice was enlarged or changed by the President saying you need to be with us on Iraq or what we're doing on Iran or in other parts of world, it became much harder for other people to be with us. We get into problems when there's an absolute definition of what it is that one has to agree with to be on the side of U.S.

Interesting article

The future of the web?

As technologically mediated experiences the Internet, games, cinema, television occupy ever more of our time and energy, it becomes increasingly vital that we create alternative spaces and environments for experience within these borderless territories of information and communication. Virtual World of Art invokes, manipulates and transforms the vocabulary and logic of game culture to create artistic engaging spaces which awaken aesthetic, emotional, social and intellectual responses radically different from those engendered by contemporary mass media. The project explores a variety of significant problems that cultural institutions committed to artistic practice within a networked electronic environment continue to face: how to create esthetically compelling and emotional online experiences, how to link physical and data spaces together, and how to effectively enable human communication and exchange in a physical space where local and remote visitors and performers can communicate virtually through technologies and computer interfaces.

Virtual World of Art investigates the artistic possibilities of immersive game technology and proposes new models for experiencing architectural and public spaces, sociability, and cultural production. Grounded in reality but not limited to realism, Virtual World of Art forms a dynamic, socially relevant, independent alternative to the existing art world, enabling artist to emancipate and develop a critical view of the future and meaning of contemporary art.

Virtual World of Art is the title for a series of new media art projects which subvert and reconfigure multi player game technology to create a network of artistic virtual environments. Each of these virtual environments called nodes, containing digital artworks and virtual art installations, is associated both conceptually and thematically with a specific site, arts centre or a public event where the project is presented on a long-term basis. These virtual environments are connected together by the internet forming a new kind of enlarged social and experiential public space for artistic expression and social exchange. VWA will connect at least 3 locations or nodes in order to function as a complete project. Each node explores a different notion of hybrid between physical and virtual public space. Visitors will be able to interact through terminals installed at the nodes or at any public space in the world that has a high-speed internet connection.

The people of Workspace Unlimited will discuss at the Vooruit with Jan De Pauw (philosopher), Jerry Galle (Lector at KASK) and Anouk De Clercq.

It is a coop between Hogent, KASK, Conservatorium. (yehyeh, my school)
May 23, at 8PM.

(I hope I can convince my school to record this for a podcast.)

Eye-Fi to Combine Wifi, Flash Memory

The one thing I wish my digital camera had was wifi so that I could auto-upload photos without the extra hassle of connecting the camera or memory card to a computer. There are cameras being released now that have this capability. However, min doesn't.

Eye-Fi is tackling the problem from a different perspective. They're building wifi directly into the flash storage. Their first product will be a 1GB SD card with built in Wifi. For about the same price as a 1 GB flash card sells for today - $100. You'll be able to upload photos, or whatever, directly from your device to a computer using the built in storage wifi capabilities.

be available, but they have working prototypes. If Eye-Fi owns the intellectual property around this, look for them to license the technology to flash memory producers. I will buy this the second it becomes available.

Compare mobile services for pro's in Belgium

I received several months a huge communication bill.
So I started to compare some services.
Which is quite difficult since they all have different advantages...

Since I am independent, I checked prices for companies.
I checked for small independents, with one number. (Well, that's what I am.)
I preferred Proximus or Base, since most people I know, have those numbers.

Base has BASE Pro +
Proximus has Business Package
Mobistar has a very bad website since it gives the home page all the time. I couldn't compare... (Tried most browsers on it, maybe because it is Mac over here...)

I based my usage on 375 minutes of calling in a month, and in a second scenario 500 minutes.
(At this moment the first would result in a bill of 75 euro in my current package. 500 minutes would result in a 100 euro bill.)

When calling 375 minutes, Base Pro + would turn my bill into 66 euro, while Proximus would result in 65,125 euro.
Not so much of a difference one will say.

Proximus is using a digressive system, so the 500 minutes scenario results in their advantage, with a bill of 77 euro compared to the 85 euro of Base (and compared to the 100 euro bill in the current plan!)
In this scenario Proximus is the winner.

But the results above aren't quite correct, because Proximus uses 1 pricing for all operators, while Base charges different rates (0.10 for Base and fixed land lines, and 0.15 to Proximus and Mobistar)
I decided to count using the most expensive rate, so in the end the bill isn't projecting reality.

To make an estimate with different rates: I probably call like 50% to Proximus and 50% to Base + landlines.
This would result in a bill of:
-for the 375 min: 56,875 euro
-for the 500 min: 72,5 euro

So in this estimation (when calling a lot to fixed lines and other Base numbers) the results change drastically: Base wins.

If I would switch to Base Pro +, I will save +-20 euro on my bill, or around 25%!

I already called to change my plan.

Maybe you should check your bill too...

(PS There is extra advantage in taking a 12 months/24 months package, but I hate to be stuck to a service.)
(PPS: you have to compare by yourself, since maybe your calling behavior is quite different from the one described above.)

I heart the internet

I do.
If it weren't for the internet I:
-never would have gotten into Iraq
-never would have found my school in Israel
-never would have met a bunch of wonderful people that now can be called friends
-never would have had the opportunity to go to Asia or America on a private plane
-would not be able to call the other side of the world for free
-would not have detected my wonderful shoes and I would not be able to send this information to Roman ;)
-would be sitting without a mobile (thank you all, lovely people who sent me a message saying you have a spare mobile for me to use, I really appreciated!)

(I can sum up a lot more... But I guess you get the picture.)

Nature herself has determined the sphere of activity in which the animal should move, and it peacefully moves within that sphere, without attempting to go beyond it, without even an inkling of any other. To man, too, the Deity gave a general aim, that of ennobling mankind and himself, but he left it to man to seek the means by which this aim can be achieved; he left it to him to choose the position in society most suited to him, from which he can best uplift himself and society.

Karl Marx, Reflections of A Young Man On Choosing An Occupation (August 1835)

Perfect Photo/PC Bag

The zipper of my wonderful photo/pc bag broke down.
So these days I'll be looking for a new bag.
PJ pointed me out to this one:

Ltp-003-Glamour
Might opt for this Little Pimp of Crumpler.
But if one of you can recommend me others or better: links are always welcome.
(I am looking for the 'perfect' bag: the one that doesn't show it hides expensive material, is easy to wear and to work with, and is flashy/design enough to be seen with -though people call me a geek, I don't want to look like one..-)

A good link for people looking for something similar is this one to ShinyShiny Bags
