Lee West

leewest2.jpg leewest1.jpg

I am looking for nice lamps. I checked Ikea, and they have nothing.
(Actually my mom called me yesterday saying 'The new Ikea book, well... It is such a disappointment There is NOTHING inside of it. Nothing...' I can assure you, my mom sounded disappointed. And I also can tell you she's got taste -I guess that's where mine was born...-)
So not too much Ikea stuff for this new move.

Maybe the internet has something to offer (Maybe? Hehe, the internet has ALWAYS something)

I liked the lamp on the right (the one on the left is a copy cat of something...)
But if you know profound ideas of light, don't hesitate to send them in!

Lee West is a young English designer who has been working in Paris since 2000. He's quickly made a name for himself "Create(ing) useful objects with maximum material quality" for Ligne Roset, Cinna, Arc international, Paco Rabanne perfumes and Seiko. We like his sensibility for organic forms and mirrored surfaces.

Here are a few of his works (more after the jump):
His
Boss table lamp in double cased white and transparent cut glass for Cinna, above right, and his Supernova floor lamp in triplex glass from Cinna, above left

Did you pop in a Habitat store yet? They only have one in Antwerp and Brussels but it's worth a visit. They have some Artemide lamps and other stuff. There is also a nice shop in the Kammenstraat, but beware, very expensive stuff!

I was going to recommend Habitat as well. In the new collection (already on the English site , in the shops in September I guess) lights are a focus point, and every now and then they give young (mostly British though) designers a chance to develop a product. (And, for instance, they have a design by Droog-star Tord Boontje and a new one by upcoming Berlin designers Wilm Fuchs + Kai Funke ). Unfortunately, the (licensed) Habitat shops in Antwerp and Brussels offer only a rather small part of the collection. The shop in Lille is a little bit better, the best is the Paris' main shop and the Cologne shop. (And it's a good reason to make a trip ). In Brussels, you can try Depot Design (they have a small www.depotdesign.be site, but lots more in the shop) for lesser known Spanish and Italian design lights.

You're living in ghent now aren't you? There is a small lamp store in the onderstraat (parallel to hoogpoort) that has some nice designy things. A friend of mine bought her lamp there...
