Vooruit goes interactive!
Few months ago I went to an interesting lecture at Vooruit.
One of the things announced was the direction Vooruit is going, and it certainly is interactive (Their current exhibition proves it)
Today I found this request in my feedreader (Vooruit has a feed)
(mailen naar eddy@vooruit.be)
Wij plaatsen jouw nummer op de website van Vooruit en bieden je eeuwige roem binnen handbereik!
Pretty interested for the results.
Virtual life combined with real life.
The right track I'd say.
(Quickly translated: If you think you can make a good cover of the pixies, Vooruit invites you to put it on MySpace/YouTube or whatever and mail them the link. Good songs will be featured on their site. Eternal fame, that is!)

I'm really curious how many submissions this interactive project will have. Interactive websites are very hard to startup, they need wide media coverage and marketing that goes beyond the internet. There is this rule, the 1% rule that says that out of 100 people, 1 person will create content, 10 will interact with it, and the rest will just read the content. Now, creating a Pixies-cover is really hard. You not only need to be able to sing, you also need to be able to record it and have the knowledge of uploading it to YouTube/MySpace. These requirements have still to be applied to the 1%. Let's say that one out of then people are willing to contribute and are fan of the Pixies, which results in 0,1%. This means you need 1000 unique visitors in order to have one submission.
Also must be taken into consideration is that the Pixies fanbase are not really youngsters and that Vooruit targets a much wider public then just Pixies fans. It would be much easier if this project would run on the Pixies site.
I whish the Vooruit website all the luck and it would be fun to see Pixies-covers (there are so many funny covers at YouTube) but I hope they realise that what they're trying to accomplish is not simple.
