The Readers Show
By accident I stumbled upon an invitation to the 'Lezersshow', an initiative of Ontroerend Goed.
In their first episode Peter Verhelst would speak.
Since I am amazingly moved by his wonderful sentences in 'Memoires van een Luipaard' I decided to buy 2 tickets on the spot. (NTGent allows you to buy online, jihaa)
So yesterday, me and my victim (;)) went to the NTGent.
I have to admit, I was a bit afraid of the combination 'Verhelst' 'Blancquaert', but it turned out to be OK.
The whole concept made me think of the salons of the 20's, and of the evenings we organized while being at the academy: inviting artists to talk about their work in an informal way.
At the 'Lezersshow' there was a concept behind it, with music and jingles (our evenings were just plain talking with a drink afterwards).
I guess that's the remark I had: there was no need for the extra stuff, for the jingles: the strength lies in the content. In what Peter said, in the song Lieve sung. In the amazing poem Wim Opbrouck performed.
I was surprised by Chris Van Camp, the columnist, who talked about Johan Anthierens. And admitted, I think, next time in the bookshop, I'll buy something from Anthierens.
I was moved by the story of Peter Verhelst's first kiss.
And the vulnerability that spoke out of many that night.
That actually it is OK to be vulnerable once in a while.
That it suits us.
The next Lezersshow is on March 30, I am already checking if there are tickets left.
