Barcamp Brussels
May 5th, Barcamp Brussels. The date is blocked in my agenda.
For those not knowing what a Barcamp is: shame on you! (grin)
BarCamp is an international network of unconferences — open, participatory workshop-events, whose content is provided by participants — focusing on early-stage web applications, and related open source technologies and social protocols. The name is a playful allusion to its origins, with reference to the hacker slang term, foobar: BarCamp arose as a spin-off and response to Foo Camp, an annual invitation-only unconference hosted by open source publishing luminary, Tim O'Reilly.
An unconference is a conference where the content of the sessions is driven and created by the participants, generally day-by-day during the course of the event, rather than by a single organizer, or small group of organizers, in advance. To date, the term is primarily in use in the geek community. Unconference processes like Open Space Technology, however, have been around for over 20 years in other contexts.
The unconference part is why Barcampp rocks: everyone needs to participate, resulting in rather fun and interesting presentations.
I am going you too?
