Lada Niva
Somewhere in my archives it is written: my favorite car is a Lada Niva.
I said it probably like 3 or 4 years ago, and I am still convinced: one day the Lada Niva will be totally hot.
Whenever I said this in a conversation, people gave me a strange look.
I like the car conz it doesn't compromize: it is a pure line form.
If you would ask a kid to draw a car, it would draw a Lada Niva.
Tonight I was glad to be in this company totally agreeing with me. They actually chose the same car as a favorite.
At 13000 euro (GPL) this is a pretty cheap car.
(I probably never would buy the Niva, since I don't support driving 4*4 in the city, thus opting for my second choice: a saab convertible... ;) )

I saw a show on the Beeb a couple of years ago, about the Niva. There was this one bloke who owned and drove one for over 20 years. The only big cost he has had over those years was a broken axle.
Pretty amazing car actually, not the best 4x4 in the woods, certainly not overpowered either, but does the job.

Als ex-eigenaar van een echte lada, namelijk de Lada 1300, moet ik ontkennen dat de pure oervorm van een auto zoals kinderen ze tekenen niet de lada niva is. Kijk even naar het prentje van de rode lada op deze pagina: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lada. (ik had een witte).
Maar ik moet wel toegeven dat ik toen best jaloers was op die niva. Het model is ook lang op het lijstje van auto's-die-ik-wil-hebben blijven staan.
Bovendien is het inderdaad een compromisloze wagen. In conflictsituaties ging het ongeveer alzo: 'Ofwel ga jij aan de kant ofwel ga jij aan de kant, ik heb een ton prima Russisch ladastaal onder mijn kont'.

Even the hit movie Sideways has not been able to push the prices of the classic Saab Convertible (1986-1994)-- although less so in Europe than here in the US, where most were sold.
