XI of UGent
C. pointed me out to the site of UGent last week saying 'Dunno what to think about it'.
Meanwhile we see a lot of action on the rather viral campaign:
Last week a large XI dropped out of the air

The campaign is pretty well organized triggering your attention, inviting students to participate, and, why it was initiated, inviting new students to be triggered by UGent.
Nice 'inter-active' action to advertise your school.
I wonder what KASK will do...

I'm glad you pointed this out to us.
I find this portal utterly infuriating. It's a highly uncreative stunt. Especially for an institution which used to pride itself in being dissociated from any religious organisations. To hijack the "10" commandments is downright lame and uninspired. "Dare to think" to me implies "come up with new concepts", not just "think outside the box" or "redefine old concepts".
Moreover, the 10 commandments represent old forms of dogmas. Things not to be questioned but followed. The imperative form of writing their "new" commandments does not invite one to reach new levels of thinking. It instructs. Universities used to represent breeding grounds for alternative thinking, places where young bright minds find their own new paths amidst accomodating GUIDANCE by equally bright but more experienced minds. Not by following imperative instructions.
Also, the mix between english and dutch language usage is ridiculous. "Gebod Undefined"?!? Seriously.
And if I'm allowed one more objection: The suposedly "daring" and challenging thoughts displayed upon clicking "gebod 1" are thoughts generally interjected by pubescent minds. Childish rebellion rather than well-thought out alternative statements. Hardly the level of thinking to be aspired by a university student.
