Clocks

Suddenly it's on the radio. A song of long and yet not so long ago.
Decided to surf to check for it.
Found this.
Nice to play, to close my eyes, to think of a beautiful day, an empty highway, nice sunset, a helmet on my head, motorcycle under me. Driving to the sea. My mind far away...
Where were you? ;)

Memories
This is an image of my past.
At my grandparents place.
The clock thicking, passing time.
At the hour the cuckoo flips out, remembering us that time has passed.
And before the meal we had to pray, a small prayer.
It is not time that passes, it is us.
We are the moving part in this story.
Aren't we...

What do you expect your life to be in five years?

Not so many of you probably know, but more than a year ago I started this blog with the name 'L'auberge Israelienne'
Referring to the great movie L'Auberge Espagnole.
Just saw a part of it on television, remembered suddenly why it is such a great movie...
Probably one of the reasons why I finally decided to go away for a year...
So rent the dvd... (see the trailer here)
Maybe you'll end up like me... somewhere on the other end of the world.
And? What do you expect your life to be in five years?

Supermen that's what we are...
A memory from not so long ago...
Maybe Dana is the perfect test for me, preparing the SNOWblog classes.
With her little camera, she's picturing the world as we forget to see it.
And all the professional art-photographers can try as hard as they want: the innocence captured in a kid's picture can't be faked.
So here she is, pointing her camera towards the most normal stuff, seeing things for the first time.
Sometimes there is a cat hidden in her picture, and we just don't see it.
Or the sky just stays the sky, no frames to capture, no compositions to make.
She points, she shoots.
She touches.
Me, by her views.
Visit her site.

Belgium is sick... Or am I?
Some days ago I was sitting in the car with a friend.
Days before I had said something that seems to have triggered her mind.
'Why do you say there is something wrong with Belgium?'
Because there is...
'I think something is wrong with you.'
Probably... But still Belgium is sick.
She couldn't live with that idea. And suddenly it was about me, how I have a problem, and how I cannot settle.
Well that's true, I didn't find my peace yet.
But so what?
In Israel I was the youngest in my class. In Belgium I would be the oldest. So what?
If I am everlasting student in Belgium, then it is very relative.
Should I feel bad about that?
Should I be working a nine-to-five job for a pension in the end of my life?
A pension is is not likely to be there.
'Well, off course it will be there, they cannot not give it.'
Excuse me... Did you ever hear about Argentinia???
That money doesn't exist by the time we are old.
Yeahyeah, our liberate country, that gives gays the right to marry.
But excuse me, are we so much better than US, with our Vlaams Blok Belang.
And oops, our problems with jobs... or our very nice taxes on entrepeneurship.
Yep... DHL left, Renault knew it already 7 years ago, and others will follow. Leaving many without a job.
Or let's talk about the nice tricks our government makes with money:
We don't talk about begroting. No, we talk about begrotingstekort...
And how to solve it.
But really solve it? Nonono, we do little fiscal tricks.
Like for example, not giving the scholarships we had to give last year this year. No let's give them next year.
So they come on the expenses of that year.
Resulting in a higher deficit next year.
But that's a problem for later...
She is right, my friend, Belgium is the best country in the world.
Because of it's environment, and its culture, and its chocolate and many other things.
But those reasons are ONLY emotional,
because it is MY country, and I was raised here, with these habits and culture.
If we were not emotional, we would go to a country where economics are hopeful, and workers are cheap, houses still affordable.
We would be kings and queens with our savings. And life would be rich.
But we would miss too many things. Family, friends, habits and culture.
So we stay or come back...

Arrived in Paris
What a mornin'
Waking up slooooowly and then get a pair of Parisian croissants while looking at the Hotel Concorde- La Fayette.
(And when opening up your portable, an unprotected wifi spot appears :) )
Life is beautiful.
