Jaja 't is hier stil

't Is hier stil als mijn grootmoeder belt om te vragen of ik wel nog leef, want dat er niets nieuws meer op 'mijne siete' komt...

De realiteit is een beetje anders: het is hier hectisch druk, met leuke opdrachten voor web, en daarnaast is mijn heropgeleefde goesting voor fotografie blijkbaar niet in dovemansoren gevallen, met enkel foto-opdrachten als resultaat. (Zo moet dat zijn ;) )

En dus is er gewoon een pak minder tijd om hier vanalles neer te pennen.

Weet dat er wel nog een en ander op til staat, want mijn lief en ik hebben elkaar gevonden in een sideproject dat nogal wat voeten in de aarde heeft (en eigenlijk helemaal geen side project is).
En daar hoort natuurlijk een website bij...

Maar meer wanneer het lijstje opdrachten hier (met veel plezier) afgewerkt geraakt.

Misplaatst..

Dankuwel Bart Van Belle, dat u, als journalist, oproept tot rust in de media.

Mensen die overal aangesproken worden, vragen hoe ze ermee omgaan. Dramatische begeleidende teksten.
Persoonlijke berichtjes op Netlog die plots een nieuwsitem worden en in een klas voor de camera worden voorgelezen. Een meisje dat na talloze telefoontjes wellicht toegeeft en een interview doet aan de de tv. Vertelt dat het niet de bedoeling was dat haar Netlog bericht op tv kwam.
Uitdrukkelijk vraagt om gerust gelaten te worden.

De procureur die meerdere malen het nieuws, door journalisten doorgegeven, rechtzet.

Is dit journalistiek?

Update: Mijn grootmoeder verwijst in de comments naar de familie van de moordenaar, evenals John. Terecht.
Pieter verwijst naar het interview met de dokter en het ziekenhuispersoneel. Over de schreef. Ook voor mij.
Ik heb 4 keer getwijfeld of ik het bovenstaande zou publiceren, ik heb andere screenshots niet gekozen. Ik heb alle clips van de vrt doorlopen om te begrijpen waar ik me aan ergerde: de tone of voice, de manier waarop de journalisten zich gedroegen, onnodige vragen stelden, en het drama enkel verergerden.
Ze gaan een stap te ver. Het is geen berichtgeving meer, het is azen op nieuws, en het zelf maken.
Het is vooral zeer erg pijnlijk en respectloos voor de slachtoffers (en daarmee ook de familie van Kim)

Wat me het meest van al stoort is de sensatiebeluste berichtgeving. Bekijk dit clipje en verwonder u erover: de titel is 'Vermoorde Kim de Gelder een bejaarde vrouw' waarbij later in het interview gewoon wordt gezegd 'Kim De Gelder pleegde al eerder een moord'.
Sinds wanneer kan een journaliste dit zeggen? De procureur spreekt van 'een verband' tussen de moorden. Hij stelt niet dat Kim de moordenaar is. Later zal de advocaat ook zeggen dat Kim de moord ontkent. Intussen deed het gerecht een oproep naar eventuele tips omtrent deze moord. Maw, er is nog een onderzoek bezig.
Of Kim al dan niet de dader is van die andere moord is iets wat door een rechtbank zal bepaald worden, en niet door de media.
Men is pas schuldig wanneer zijn schuld bewezen is, niet ervoor...

Ik hoop dat nieuwsdiensten en kranten zich bezinnen, en achteraf ook durven evalueren.

Greenmachine: beste smoothie ever

Mijn liefst lief doet het nu al 3 maand zonder.
Sigaretten wel te verstaan.
En bijgevolg krijgt ze af en toe es een lieve motivator/beloning.

De smoothiemachine was er zo een, en wellicht een van de beste aankopen in ons huishouden.
Je ramt er alle fruit in die je thuis liggen hebt, mixt, voegt er wat ijsblokjes bij, en voila. Een maaltijd in een glas.

Onze favoriet vonden we in New York, van Naked.
Greenmachine ziet er niet uit: groene smurrie. En in Naked's woorden: "It looks intimidating, but don't judge a juice by it's color. It actually tastes great. So go for it, and let the pink and orangesmoothie drinkers of the world cower at your juice prowess.

De ingrediënten staan gewoon op het doosje en delen we graag:
2 3/4 appel
1/2 banaan
1/3 kiwi
1/3 mango
stukje ananas
1300mg spirulina
400mg chlorella
100mg broccoli
100mg spinazie
50mg blauw groene algen
50mg look
75mg barley grass
50mg ginger
50mg peterselie

Eerlijkheidshalve toegeven: de chorella vonden we nog niet, de algen doen we er zelf niet in, en de look en het barley grass evenmin. Ginger als we er hebben.
En zelfs zonder die dingen is het resultaat schitterend.
We vermenigvuldigen de hoeveelheden zeker maal 3 om de smoothiemachine helemaal vol te proppen en des te meer genieten te hebben.

Uw portie groenten van de dag heeft u ineens ook binnen.

In 2004 ging ik 2 dagen naar Gaza. Er binnengeraken was voor ons allesbehalve evident. Een spookachtige tunnel waar uit luidsprekers Israelische soldaten in het Hebreeuws schreeuwden. Wat ik daarna zag sloeg werkelijk alles. En toch, steeds weer die hoop. En het overleven...

Ontdekking van de dag

The L Word, waar zoveel dames reikhalzend naar uitkeken (en met hen, vele mannen met fantasietjes), is vandaag van start gegaan met zijn laatste (halve) seizoen.
In de States wel te verstaan.
En dat brengt enige wrevel mee voor ons, de 'rest of the world'. In principe dienen wij geduldig te wachten tot een VT4 of alike het hier op de kabel brengt.
Edoch, eenieder weet dat geeks niet wachten en oplossingen zoeken.  
Dit jaar komt de oplossing geheel onverwacht van Showtime zelf.

For years, like legions of other professionals, Mr. Obama has been all but addicted to his BlackBerry. The device has rarely been far from his side — on most days, it was fastened to his belt — to provide a singular conduit to the outside world as the bubble around him grew tighter and tighter throughout his campaign.

“How about that?” Mr. Obama replied to a friend’s congratulatory e-mail message on the night of his victory.

But before he arrives at the White House, he will probably be forced to sign off. In addition to concerns about e-mail security, he faces the Presidential Records Act, which puts his correspondence in the official record and ultimately up for public review, and the threat of subpoenas. A decision has not been made on whether he could become the first e-mailing president, but aides said that seemed doubtful.

For all the perquisites and power afforded the president, the chief executive of the United States is essentially deprived by law and by culture of some of the very tools that other chief executives depend on to survive and to thrive. Mr. Obama, however, seems intent on pulling the office at least partly into the 21st century on that score; aides said he hopes to have a laptop computer on his desk in the Oval Office, making him the first American president to do so.

Ik denk mochten ze dat hier in Belgie ook doorvoeren de politiek er een pak anders zou uitzien ;)

Wow, parkeergelegenheid gaat enorm stijgen in Gent...

De Standaard lettert 'Gent deelt in 6 weken tijd 21.000 parkeerbonnen uit'.
Laten we uitgaan van 25 euro per parkeerbon (hoewel wij 3 keer 50 euro aan ons been hadden), dan maakt dat grosso een inkomst van 525.000 euro (ok, ok, je moet daar nog de werkkrachten aftrekken natuurlijk).
Maar bon, dat is dus op 6 weken tijd. Als ze dat volhouden tot het eind van het jaar, wordt dat dus 1.050.000 euro.

Laten we ervan uitgaan dat ze dit drukkingsmiddel (tegen fout parkeren vanzelfsprekend, drukking tegen wat anders?) gedurende een jaar willen toepassen, dan is er plots 4.200.000 euro in kas (min de kosten, u heeft gelijk.)
Karin Temmerman benadrukt dat de afgelopen 6 weken geen heksenjacht waren en vertelde nog 'In het begin zullen we ook geen extra mensen inzetten tussen 19 en 24u' . (Las u ook de 'In het begin', en dacht u ook spontaan: 'dus na verloop van tijd wel'?)
Dus die 4.200.000 euro is niet zo gek als idee...

En nog: 'Ik weet dat Gentenaars het niet geloven, maar die parkeerbonnen dienen niet om de stadkas te spekken, wel om te zorgen dat er circulatie is en dat de mensen hun auto niet te lang op straat laten staan.
Hmmm, dat is een aardige denkwijze, zet uw auto es in uw living bijv... Want u maakt mij niet wijs dat al die mensen 's avonds in de stad 'bezoekers' zijn, dat zijn gewoon gezinnen met meer dan 1 auto, en je krijgt maar een bewonerskaart voor 1 auto.
En overdag? Op zaterdagen is Gent druk bezocht, maar in de week zijn er maar wat genoeg mensen die in Gent werken.

'Alle geld dat hiermee naar de stadskas vloeit wordt opnieuw gebruikt in parkeerinfrastructuur. We leggen er buurtparkings mee aan, we investeren in park&rides, en we investeren in een nieuw verkeersgeleidingssysteem'

Man, wij gaan nogal parkings krijgen in Gent binnen een paar jaar...
(Betalend vanzelfsprekend...)

Note: Ik hou hier geen betoog voor de autobestuurder, allesbehalve. Wij hebben zelf slechts 1 auto en als het mogelijk zou zijn zouden we zelfs die wegdoen.
Maar ik heb mijn twijfels bij de aanpak van Stad Gent. Je kan niet langs de ene kant bezoekers lokken voor speciale dagen (ala Flikkendag, Saradag, VTMdag, Koopzondag, en god weet welke andere dag) en daarmee je stad overbelasten for the sake of commercie, en dan langs de andere kant die bezoekers afstraffen.
Dat is, als je uitgaat van auto's van bezoekers, ik geloof echter dat je je bewoners afstraft: mensen hebben vaak meer dan een auto, en krijgen maar 1 bewonerskaart. Dus moeten ze die andere auto ergens kwijt. Vroeger was dat gewoon voor de deur.
Sinds 1oktober moet je daarvoor dus betalen in Gent. En betaal je niet, dan krijg je een boete onder de ruitewisser. Betalen doe je dus sowieso.
Mijn zus vertelde me onlangs dat zij, door dat overaanbod van auto's in de binnenstad, geen parkeerplaats vindt, haar elders moet parkeren, en dus niet meer in haar buurt, waardoor ze daarvoor dan weer een paar boetes heeft gekregen.
Ok dat je iets wil doen aan een parkeerprobleem, en meer nog aan een probleem van een teveel aan auto's.
Maar het is de manier waarop.
Afstraffen lijkt me niet de oplossing in dit geval, want het neemt het probleem niet weg...

Mooie nieuwe portable? Bescherm jezelf

Net als veel andere las ik het verhaal van Nick.
Portable gestolen... Je denkt steeds 'Mij overkomt het niet'.
Ik kan je vertellen: het overkomt je wel.
Ik heb een paar dingen gestolen gehad (groot en klein) en de keer dat er in ons appartement werkelijk alles van waarde wegwas, behalve die ene harde schijf die ze over het hoofd gezien hadden, maken dat je anders aankijkt tegen die dingen.
(Ik zal mijn camera altijd in het oog hebben en op events als Barcamp (ja zelfs Barcamp) of plaatsen waar ik in opdracht dien te fotograferen, mijn gerief altijd dicht bij mij hebben.)

Desalniettemin zijn er een paar tools die je helpen je computer beter te beveiligen. Een backup thuis. Een lock. Een verzekering (enkel interessant het eerste jaar, daarna dodelijk duur.). Maar ook trackingtools.

Undercover is er zo eentje en is zijn geld meer dan waard. Het programma laat je weten wanneer de dief de computer ergens aansluit (ervan uitgaande dat ze de HD niet direct herformatteren, maar dit is meestal niet het geval, gezien de dief zelden een Mac install schijf heeft.)
Bovendien zal het foto's maken met de ingebouwde camera en die ook versturen om zo beelden te hebben van de dader.
En on top of that, als men niet verbindt met het internet zal het programma een hardware failure simuleren, opdat de 'nieuwe eigenaar' naar de winkel moet, en, de man die herstelt, hopelijk eerlijker is dan de dief.

Nog een paar sidetips:
-Als je toestel gestolen is, ga dan zeker online checken bij 2dehands en ebay ed. Met een beetje geluk vind je daar iets terug.
-Als je camera gepikt werd, ga dan naar de shops die tweedehands verkopen. Ik heb zelf in een camerashop gewerkt en heb genoeg mensen zien binnenkomen die te louche waren om dergelijke apparatuur zelf te hebben.
Winkeleigenaars hebben baat bij de dief aan te geven, gezien het strafbaar is gestolen dingen te verkopen. Desalniettemin helpt het zeker als je dan al langsgeweest bent. Je bent dan plots geen anonieme 'toerist' meer, wel een fotograaf op zoek naar zijn toestel. Believe me. It makes a difference.
-Geef zeker je serienr door aan de verdeler (Apple, Canon, Nikon, ...): bij reparaties vinden ze je apparatuur dan terug.

Op voorhand:
-Disable Autmatic Logon: je bent je computer dan misschien wel kwijt, de nieuwe eigenaar kan tenminste niet aan je data aan.
-Om je toestel te 'branden' kan je op het loginwindow je gegevens zetten.
Dat doe je zo:
Pas de file aan in /Library -> Preferences -> com.apple.loginwindow.plist (doe dit als superuser), en voeg hetvolgende toe na de eerste <dict> tag:
<key>LoginwindowText</key>
<string>Your text goes here...</string>
Deze 'Text' wordt toegevoegd onder het Mac OS X logo telkens je in- of uitlogt.
Je schrijft best iets als 'Deze machine behoort toe aan ...'

I am dangerous. Grrrrrrr.

In het ene land slaagt een zwarte man erin President te worden van een van de machtigste landen ter wereld door middel van sociale media, oftewel blogs, facebooks, heck e-marketing.
Aan de andere kant van de wereld, niet veel later slaagt een minister, na een non-event erin te stellen dat:

"Ik wil van deze gelegenheid en dit non-event gebruik maken om een gevaarlijk fenomeen in onze maatschappij te signaleren. Wij leven in een tijdgeest waarin het iedereen vrij staat naar goeddunken en zonder enige verantwoordelijkheid op blogs te gaan posten. Dit overstijgt zelfs het moddergooien. Het is bijna onmogelijk om zich daartegen te verdedigen. Iedereen van u is een potentieel slachtoffer.”

Ik ga me niet uitspreken over wat waar en niet waar was daar in New York, maar Minister De Crem, mocht ik u zijn, ik zou een nieuwe communicatieverantwoordelijke nemen. Eentje die misschien in de leer is geweest bij die nieuwe Commander in Chief.
En die dit non-event, een non-event had gelaten.

En oh, ja, ik bijt. Grrrr.

In een niet zo ver verleden was ik daar ook eens gast voor 2 nachten.

Wishlist

Het is terug bijna kerstmis, en dus de uitgesproken periode om een wishlist aan te leggen.
Ik zal proberen de volgende dagen een en ander te posten, wat er hoog op mijn verlanglijst staat.
Betaalbaar vanzelfsprekend :) (Neen, ik verwacht niet dat iemand die digitale reflex voor mij koopt...)
Ik vermoed dat er tips gaan tussenstaan waar mijn ouders en grootmoeder (fervent lezer van dit blog, klaagt ook als ik lange tijd niets meer post) wel mee weg kunnen.
Kwestie van nutteloze kado's te vermijden.
En de rest van de lezers kan er ook inspiratie in vinden, voor zichtzelf :)

Naaktscanners.

In de VS werden we om de een of andere reden niet geselecteerd om door de scanner te gaan. Net niet, want er werden er meer wel dan niet geselecteerd.
C. was helemaal ontzet toen ze de scanner zag, en mompelde 'Daar krijgen ze me niet door' (Jaja, tis dat of in uw poep zitten, waren mij gevleugelde gedachten maar ik zweeg wijselijk...)
Ik had de machine nog nooit gezien en verwonderde me: supersonische sondes, waar je zo zou kunnen in weggebeamd worden in Startrek style. Aan elke security luggage checking eentje.
Dus na uw bagage, kan u tegenwoordig ook gexrayed.

C zal blij zijn te horen dat vandaag werd beslist om in de EU niet door te gaan met de scanners.
Jip, ook in Europa werd serieus overwogen deze scanners te gaan gebruiken.
Nog even niet dus.

Voor iedereen die erom vroeg 'Hoe rijd je als vrouw op een koersvelo?', zo dus.
En ter info: Single Track Bicycles en vrouwen erop zijn totally hot in NYC.
Zelfs mijn lief kan ervan getuigen. Tegen wil en dank...

En bij deze is er dus besloten nog een bicycle te tweaken.
(Nu nog het juiste frame en de juiste vinden...)

NYC Day 2: Coney Island

Vandaag op het programma: Coney Island, en omdat het niet anders kon, shoppen. ;)
Het weer bleek opnieuw schitterend (maar koud), en aangezien vandaag, maandag, de musea gesloten zijn (dachten we), besloten we, na wat rondhangen thuis, naar Coney Island te vertrekken. Een oud amusement park en een freakshow zouden de perfecte plaats zijn voor wat leuke foto's.
Toen we daar, na een lange metro-rit aankwamen, bleek duidelijk dat deze plaats ideaal is in de zomer, maar absoluut dicht en verlaten in de winter.
Desondanks een schitterende setting voor foto's.
C voor een fortune teller kraampje. En daar liep het duister donker mis: de camera gaf een error.
En wat ik ook probeerde, het bleef foutgaan. Vanzelfsprekend had ik de handleiding niet bij, en bijgevolg daalde het humeur al snel een paar graden lager. Ook voor C. die duidelijk de dag ervoor de verleiding van de camera had ontdekt, en zijn gebruiksgemak, waardoor ik die nauwelijks in mijn handen had gehad.
Het vreemde was dat de camera de ene keer wel werkte en de andere keer niet, en het had duidelijk te maken met de diafragmaregeling. Zou het te koud geweest zijn daar in de gure wind? Hadden we iets verkeerd gedaan? (bij het wisselen van de lens de camera vergeten uitschakelen ofzo?)
Zonder goeie camera, in de kou, bleek Coney Island niet zoveel meer te bieden, en een beetje teleurgesteld besloten we terug naar Manhattan te gaan. B&HPhoto kon ons misschien verder helpen met de bokkenspringende camera.
En, mysterieus, 3 metrostops verwijderd van Coney Island werkte alles plots terug naar behoren. Wij wijten het bijgevolg aan de behekste plaats...

Te laat om terug te keren, stjokten we verder naar B&H alwaar C, net zoals ik de eerste keer, niet over kon van het 'mega'aspect van deze, door ortodox joden gestuurde, photo store.
Je hoeft er niet gaan om iets te kopen, wel om je ogen uit te staren.
'Although...' Natuurlijk kocht ik snel de Domke bag die niet in stock was in Konijnenberg, om hier handig mee rond te lopen.
Grappig geneg bleek de Alpha A900 nog niet in stock bij hen en kwam de een na de andere verkoper vragen of dit de nieuwe Alpha was en met hun begerige blikken zouden ze de camera zo uit mijn handen kunnen gesleurd hebben...
Veel later, en gelukkig niet veel armer, kwamen we buiten, en haastten ons terug naar Soho, om, na mijn dada, C haar dada te gaan vervullen: 'shoppin''!

Buit van de dag? 2 paar Puma's, 1 paar Onitsuka Tigers, en mooi ondergoed van bij Calvin Klein

NYC Dag 1: Kennismaking.

Een rustige kennismakingsdag met NYC was de bedoeling van onze eerste dag. Het werd al gauw een ware uitdaging om toch niet in de shops te belanden. Een uitdaging die te verleidelijk bleek...
Dean&Deluca was de eerste stop voor ontbijt (alwaar C al snel bleef hangen.) En nu we toch in de buurt waren, Apple Soho was toch maar om de hoek, en we moesten toch snel een paar giftcards oppikken, niet?
In het voorbijgaan dan maar van de free wifi geprofiteerd, om de foto's van de vorige dag up te loaden, want het zal freesurfing worden deze vakantie (wat onze online tijd een pak zou moeten beperken). Toen we daar buitenkwamen en op een cityseeing bus wilden springen, toch eerst nog snel bij Puma binnen...
Shoppen in NYC, het lijkt alsof er niets anders gedaan wordt.
De tourbus loodste ons doorheen de stad, en hoewel wel aangenaam was er niet heel veel om bij te leren.
We eindigden op Time Square, het absolute symbool voor kapitalisme, waar de billboards met nieuwe marchandise om uw oren slaan, waar, u dacht het al, wij terug in een paar shops belandden, om tenslotte bij een lekkere Italiaan een romantische hap te eten, en moe maar voldaan huiswaarts te keren.

NYC Day 0: Couchsurfing party

8u vliegtuig op JetAirways bleek een goeie keuze te zijn. 492 euro betaalden we voor onze vluchten (de goedkoopste van dat ogenblik) en dat was meer dan zijn geld waard.
Onze voetruimte was immers ruim bemeten (het grootste probleem op lange vluchten vind ik het gevoel opgeplooid te zitten) en we hadden zowaar elk een eigen mediacenter voor onze neus: films, games, livetv, het was allemaal beschikbaar op de nieuwe touchscreens.
Dada slechte film op groot scherm.
Onze voorbereiding (een paar dikke boeken voor mij, en een paar serietjes op de mac voor C) bleken bijgevolg onnodig, en dus onaangeraakt.
De Sony Alpha A900 werd wel aangeraakt, om al te beginnen testen. En het mag gezegd: prachtige resultaten met de gewone 50mm met machtige scherpte diepte (1.4)
Het enige minpunt (dat C wellicht zou opnoemen) was het eten. Hoewel geserveerd met echte servet en echt bestek, en redelijk mooi afgewerkt, bleek nogal Indisch pikant. (Wat wil je op een Indische luxevliegtuig?)
En interessant om weten: geen charges voor alcohol, of drank. Altijd mooi meegenomen in deze tijden waar je voor alles je portemonnee mag bovenhalen...

Op de luchthaven vonden we, na wat zoeken, onze couchsurfers hosts. Mensen die C ontmoette op haar Zuid Amerikaanse trip, die intussen naar Brooklynn waren verhuisd.
Het mooie bewijs dat couchsurfing gewoon werkt.
Ze hadden ter onzer en hunnen nieuwe president ere een etentje georganiseerd.
We crashtene ergens halverwege, maar hielden halfdood vol, en niet veel later vielen we dan ook als een blok in slaap.

Ik ga naar NYC en neem mee..

-een paspoort
-thermisch onderlijveke
-een jeans en sneakers, wat t-shirts, ondergoed, vooral een goeie pull en een vestje. En handschoenen waar de vingers vanaf kunnen. (De rest koop ik ginds wel.)
-een tandenborstel en een haarborstel
-een paar kadootjes voor de couch-aanbieders
-een handig rugzakje
-mijn portable voor 'on-location working' (mijn directeur zal wel niet weten dat ik weg ben, tenzij u em dat vertelt..)
-een reisstekker en een domino om de veelheid van electronisch materiaal te kunnen oploaden
-een gloednieuwe Sony Alpha A900 camera met 50mm 1.2 en Zeiss 24-70 2.8 lens om gezellig in de praktijk te testen.

Luminus & klantendienst.

De titel laat het misschien nog niet vermoeden, maar ik heb het even gehad met Luminus.
Gehad als in 'You f* motherf* leave me alone'.
Ik ben niet vaak geneigd negatieve dingen op deze blog neer te pleuren, echt niet. Maar de manier waarop mijn dossier behandeld wordt bij hen tart alle fantasieen.

Om te beginnen: vorig jaar neem ik het contract over van mijn (ex-)roommate. Bij de afrekening zien we dat er iets vreemd aan de had is. Ik moet plots 600 euro betalen voor 2 maanden electriciteit, terwijl wij op dat ogenblik (warme herfst) de verwarming nog niet hadden opgezet. (jip verwarming op electirciteit)
Voor 1 koelkast, en 3 computers vond ik dat verbruik toch wel extreem hoog.
Na veel zoeken bleek: de lieve mensen hadden onze tellernummers niet gebruikt om de afrekening te maken (hoewel deze duidelijk op het verhuisdocument stonden) maar een 'geschatte teller' genomen.
Heel dit debacle koste me een groot aantal telefoontjes en werd pas in maart! het daaropvolgende jaar in orde gebracht. Waarbij ik pertinent weigerde te betalen. Dit werd gelukkig on hold gezet.

In september dit jaar verhuisde ik, maar wat merkte ik op, in september mocht ik nog steeds een voorschotfactuur ontvangen. Nu, die dingen nemen wat tijd, echter ik woon daar niet meer en heb geen zin om 113 euro te betalen. Men meldt mij dat het formulier nog niet in orde is. Ik bel naar de nieuwe huurders, die me vertellen dat het document verstuurd is. Ik beslis voorlopig niet te betalen, gezien de afrekening wellicht dra zal komen.

Ik ontvang een herinnering, en een week later een voorschotfactuur van oktober!. Ik bel terug, meld dat ik daar niet meer woon en bijgevolg niet wil betalen. Men meldt mij dat ze intussen het verhuisdocument ontvangen hebben maar dat er een aantal cijfers op ontbreken en contact nemen met de nieuwe huurders.
Ik betaal nog steeds niet, ervan uitgaande dat de slotfactuur zal komen.

Ik ontvang een aangetekend schrijven waarbij men redelijk direct is in het eisen van het verschuldigde geld. Ik bel opnieuw naar Luminus en krijg te horen dat ze de nieuwe huurders niet te pakken hebben gekregen. Ik probeer beter uit te vissen wat er net ontbreekt, want dat ik toch wel zeker ben dat ik samen met de nieuwe huurders de tellerstanden heb ingevuld en dat deze dus niet kunnen ontbreken.

Waarop de dame zegt: 'Maar de tellerstanden hebben we, het is het tellernummer dat ontbreekt. En het ean-nummer'.

Uh? Het tellernummer? Het ean-nummer?
They must be joking!!!!
Dit tellernummer weten ze beslist zelf, wat linken ze anders aan een factuur, hoe berekenden ze anders mijn afrekening?
Meer nog, op het ogenblik van het telefoongesprek ligt de openstaande factuur voor mij en wat staat daar op? Het eannummer! Op de factuur zelf!! Wat stond er op een van de vorige facturen voor mijn neus: het tellernummer.

Ik dien de vrouw van repliek en zeg: 'Als dat het probleem is: hier heeft u het eannummer en het tellernummer'. Alles wordt netjes genoteerd en de afrekening kan nu gemaakt worden.
Ik denk: case closed, de afrekening kan komen.

Mis poes!
Ik moet immers de openstaande factuur nog betalen (224 euro plus kosten), maar 'had ik eerder gebeld dan hadden ze dit voorschot wel kunnen verlagen naar 10 euro ofzo'.
(Ik had toen al 3 keer gebeld, niemand die dat ooit meldde.)

Maar nu de spreekwoordelijke druppel: wat krijg ik vandaag in de bus? Een voorschotfactuur voor de maand november. 113 euro.
Een telefoon later meldt men mij dat de afrekening nog niet rond is, en ik dus nog deze maand moet betalen.
Ik vertel hen dat ik dit niet wil. Dat mijn rekening daar niet meer loopt en het weinig zin heeft om iets te betalen dat ik niet verbruik, dus of ze dit on hold kunnen zetten.
Dat kan dus niet. Ookal hebben zij intussen een verhuisdocument ontvangen, waarop duidelijk vermeld staat dat sinds 1 september ik daar niet meer woon, en de afsluitende tellerstanden werden doorgegeven.
Het enigste wat ik kan is de voorschotfactuur verlagen naar 10 euro.

Op het einde van het gesprek meldt de dame mij nog: vergeet niet uw nieuwe voorschotfacturen te verlagen, anders betaalt u wellicht teveel.
Beste lieve telefoniste, u denkt toch niet dat ik nog bij Luminus zit?

Why oh why verlopen die dingen zo moeilijk? Waarom telkens opnieuw? En waarom heb je steeds het gevoel dat je gejost bent (en dat ook bent: mijn voorschotten voor maanden die ik NIET spendeer zitten vast -zonder rentevoet-. En tot wanneer? Indien ik niet betaal staat er een deurwaarder aan de deur. Voor een fucking dossier dat op dit ogenblik alle info bevat dat nodig is om te kunnen afrekenen.)

Barak Mabroek!

Barack Obama for president! De eerste zwarte president van de US. Een president die mensen liet hopen. Maar ook de eerste president die erin slaagde om met een budget dat hoofdzakelijk geronseld is via de grassroots, via de mensen, campagne te voeren.

Als er een ding zeker is, dan is het wel dat internet (Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, blogs, ...) bijgedragen zoniet de spil geweest is van het verkiezen van Barack Obama.

Goesting (over foto, camerabags en diens meer.)

In de vorige posts schreef ik het al: fotograferen als het verlengde van jezelf is schitterend.
En omdat me opviel dat het gelijk toch plezanter was met de oude Nikon, heb ik em de laatste weken wat uit de kast gehaald. Hij staat nu op het nachtkastje en klaar om snel te pakken en te fotograferen.
(Het liefje kijkt me angstig aan...)
Film dus. Terug.
En het naar de fotograaf hollen om te laten ontwikkelen, en verrast te worden.
Jeuj.

Naar aanloop van NYC ben ik dan ook maar snel een leuke photobag gaan zoeken.
En ook daar is het nostalgie. Voor mij geen Crumpler, wel Domke.
De F-5XC en de F-5XB genieten de voorkeur en lijken een stuk draagbaarder dan de grote Tamrac die ik heb (die wel perfect is om mijn materiaal thuis mooi bij elkaar te houden).
De Domkes, in lekker canvas*, schreeuwen niet 'Hej ik ben een camerabag, steel mij.'

Camera bags, ik heb er me al vaak aan vergrepen... De Tamrac is groot en daarom nuttig: het meeste fotomateriaal past er in (2 bodies met met 7tal lenzen) maar enorm lomp om mee rond te zeulen.
Wel handig om snel in de auto te zwieren en alles mee te hebben.

Dan is er nog de Delsey Rugzak, die ik kocht voor op de motor, maar die, eens aangekomen, toch wel een maat te groot bleek, en tegelijk toch te klein voor de MBP.
Handig: alle materiaal, body, flits, een paar lenzen, passen erin, en er is een laptopsleeve en ruimte voor wat paperassen en gsm en ipod ed. Hij is toegelaten handbagage.
Maar net door het feit dat de MBP er niet in past is hij voor mij niet echt nuttig gebleken. (Hij is bovendien wat lomp voor een vrouw ;) )
Dus mocht er iemand zoiets zoeken: hij is als nieuw, en mag weg. (Weet wel dat hij 160 euro in aankoop was en zelden gebruikt is, ik kijk bijgevolg enkel naar een eerlijk bod..)

De handigste fotorugzak die ik ooit had, was ook een Delsey, en bestaat niet meer.
Hij lijkt erg op deze.
Handig omdat hij eruit zag als een gewoon rugzakje in canvas, en heel draagbaar bleek.
Omdat hij niet opviel en nooit het gevoel had dat ik moest 'opletten' dat ie gestolen zou worden.
Bovendien paste mijn 12inch computer er net bij in, wat het wellicht een van de meest compacte workplaces maakte: een body, een 5tal lenzen en een 12inch computer in 1.
Helaas was hij niet sterk genoeg, (de zak was ook niet echt voorzien op de laptop)en na verloop van tijd ging de rits kapot, waarna ie dan maar met het groot vuil is meegegaan.
Jammer want die zak, in een iets meer fashionable versie (gewoon zwart bijv) kocht ik dadelijk opnieuw.

En jullie? Wat vinden jullie handige 'fotobags' En vooral, waarom...

*Het valt me op dat canvas telkens weer mijn voorkeur wegdraagt, ookal zijn andere versies wellicht een pak steviger en waterdichter..

Nikon en oude lenzen.

Gisteren naar de MediaMarkt, om een kadootje voor het leifje, en er op tijd aangedacht een oude manuele lens (waarvan ik er wel een stuk of 5 liggen heb) mee te nemen, om te kijken wat dat geeft op een D700.

Ik had de D700 al eerder in mijn handen, in een niet nader te omschrijven winkel, alwaar de mens wel verschrikkelijk vriendelijk was, maar precies ook verschrikkelijk vol goesting om zelf dat toestel te mogen vasthouden.

De conversatie ging alsvolgt:
Erhm, kan dit toestel ook dit?
'Ja, maar u moet dit knopje zo zetten' (neemt toestel uit mijn handen)
Ok, dat snap ik dan, en hte kan dan met oude lenzen werken? (neemt toestel terug)
'Ja, dat is een instelling in het menu' (neemt toestel uit mijn handen)
Super, dat wil ik dan graag eens testen (neemt toestel terug)
En zo ging dat 5 minuten door.
Waarna het bijna uit mijn handen gerukt werd om snel terug in de kast te zetten.

Dus met meer hoop vertrok ik naar MediaMarkt.
De D700 was niet binnen 'Ze hebben problemen met de aanlevering van die toestellen'
Jip, kan ik begrijpen, ziet er verdorie een goed toestel uit.
'Maar de D90 heeft eigenlijk wel dezelfde features, dus u mag gerust die testen met de lens.'
En hij koppelde het toestel van het vervelende draadje los, en liet me vrij fotograferen.

Fantastisch was dat: de oude lenzen werken gewoon op de D90 (en dus ook D700 neem ik aan)
Lenzen van de jaren 70/80 op een nieuw toestel.
Mooie lenzen ook, manuele met grote diafragma openingen. Die fullframe gewoon zijn wat ze zijn.
En wat meer is, waar vroeger die lenzen wel werkten maar geen electronische info meegaven (en je dus een manuele lichtmeter nodig had, wat ze vrij 'moeilijk bruikbaar' maakten) gaat dat nu wel.
Ok, je moet manueel of met diafragmavoorkeur werken. Maar laat dat nu net de 2 dingen zijn die ik super vind.
Voor het eerst in de afgelopen 6 jaar had ik terug het gevoel dat het was zoals vroeger*, toen het toestel het verlengde was van mezelf, waarbij alles vloeiend en automatisch gebeurde: diafragma juist (aan de lens!), scherpte juist, het moment bekijken en kiezen.
En adrenaline die door je lijf stroomt.

Schitterend.

De D700 heeft geen filmfunctie, maar of dat opweegt tegen het gevoel de camera terug volledig onder controle te hebben betwijfel ik op dit ogenblik...
Er moet natuurlijk toegevoegd dat ik de 5D wel al in mijn 'pollekes' heb gehad, edoch, echt testen kon je dat ook niet noemen. (Bovenstaand is ook niet echt een test, me dunkt)
En dat er blijkbaar een ander 'kanon' onderweg is naar dit adres. Ook een full frame, die ik 14 dagen mag vasthouden.
De bespreking daarvan lees je dan wel wanneer we terug zijn van NYC.

*Vroeger is zeker niet altijd beter, maar het valt me toch op dat ik de afgelopen weken een paar gesprekken gehad heb met mensen die net als ik, in een analoog tijdperk hun studies genoten, en dat ze allen vermeldden: geef mij maar zo een camera zoals toen, maar dan digitaal.
De M8.2 van Leica is daar het beste voorbeeld van: een identieke body als hun oude M3, maar ipv film, bits en bytes. Al 50 jaar een (bijna) zelfde body. Schitterend.
Persoonlijk vind ik niet dat de bodies de laatste jaren zo sterk verbeterd zijn.

Voor mij is dat dan: "Geef mij maar een FM2, maar digitaal. Ik koop em met mijn ogen dicht."

Ergernis

Wil iemand me alsjeblief uitleggen waarom het belangrijk is te titelen dat 'Een Belg vijfde wordt bijde Crocodile Trophy bij de mannen' terwijl er verder in het bericht fijntjes wordt vermeld dat de Belgische Steurs 1ste bij de vrouwen werd.

Sinds wanneer staat een vijfde plaats bij de mannen hoger dan een eerste plaats bij de vrouwen?

Facebook gone mad

Als we hier thuis op Facebook zitten te spelen, dan komt er gegarandeerd weeklaag uit mijn mond.
'Waarom marcheert dit niet?' 'Waarom moet ik steevast 3 keer inloggen eer ik iets zie' 'Hoe doe ik dit marcheren?' 'He bij jou ziet alles er anders uit'.
Facebook sucks big time, denk ik dan.

En c. lacht me gewoon uit. 'Jij, de geek..' zegt ze gekscherend.
Vandaag zat ik weer even te zuchten en te blazen en ze kwam naast mij zitten 'he, dat ziet er echt wel gek uit bij jou.' 'He, er staat geen yes-mogelijkheid op' en 'uh? je klikt ignore en toch popt die applicatie die je net geignored hebt op.'

Eindelijk het besef dat het echt niet aan mij ligt.
Berichten als deze zijn daily stuff (notice dat er geen 'yes' staat...)

(Een bericht aan Facebook zelf mocht nog niets uithalen...)

Hebben jullie dat ook? Of is het enkel ik die af en toe heel erg baal van Facebook?

Dinges te koop

Mijn liefje en ik, wel dat gaat goed samen. Zo goed dat we intussen al een paar maand gezellig samenwonen, en onze meubels intussen goed geintegreerd werden.
Maar 2 huisoudens die 'moven' naar 1, betekent ook wel: dingen wegdoen...

Want hoe graag ik dat ook zou willen houden, teveel is teveel. En de mams heeft intussen schoon genoeg van al het gerief dat haar garage bezet houdt. 'Het wordt winter en ik wil mijn auto kunnen binnenzetten'.

Het is dus van moeten...
Onderstaand gerief vind je te koop op 2dehands.be, en binnenkort komt er wellicht een en ander bij (als ik terug weet wat er nog in die garage gestockeerd staat)

Blogaction Dag vandaag

Vandaag is het Blog Action Day, en het onderwerp is, zoals je al kan lezen, armoede...
Blog Action day wil door een hele boel bloggers wereldwijd over hetzelfde te laten schrijven, de aandacht vestigen op een probleem. Ik ben echter van mening dat enkel schrijven niet echt genoeg is.
Doen is de boodschap.

Toen ik echter vanochtend een entrepeneur op Kiva wou indersteunen bleken alle intiatieven reeds 'gefund'
Er zijn nog mensen met hetzelfde idee :)

Dus zullen we volgende week van Blog Action Day doen, als er nieuwe projecten zijn.
Verder doen we een simpel ding: de kasten eens leegmaken en alle overbodige kleren en materiaal naar de kringloopwinkel brengen.

Onze tips voor goedkoop leven:
-Een tip voor freelancers: Ga eens gezellig werken in de Vooruit: zorgt voor omgevingsgeluid, eens iets anders dus inspirerend, en zorgt dat je het milieu wat minder belast, want je chauffage voor jou alleen hoeft niet te draaien. En het zorgt ook voor een niet onbelangrijke korting op je rekening.
-Loop eens naar de kringloop. Wij dumpen er bijtijd zelf een aantal dingen die meestal in een supergoeie staat is en vinder er vaak leuke hebbedingetjes voor werkelijk geen geld.
-Neem es wat vaker de fiets. Of de trein. De auto is echt niet altijd nodig.
-Ga op reis via Couchsurfing, en indien in een iets armere omgeving, trakteer de man/vrouw van de couch op een lekker etentje. Dank komt tot u.

Wat dit helpt aan armoedebestrijding in de wereld, vraagt u? Wel, dat wij er van overtuigd zijn dat de riem iets aantrekken geen kwaad kan, wat dat het evenwicht heel erg uit balans is en dat een beetje, heel klein beetje rechttrekken kan geen kwaad.

In ruil kan je (een deel van) de bespaarde centen investeren in iets anders.
Hoe wij dat doen?
Kiva.org bijvoorbeeld.
Een site onderhouden van een hulporganisatie in Palestina.
Of een stukje regenwoud kado doen aan vrienden ipv een nutteloos kadootje kopen. (Regenwoud kopen helpt ook de lokale bevolking die het moet onderhouden)

Zwerfvuil & andere dingen

Soms, en soms niet, ziet ge hier een reclame tegen zwerfvuil.
Ik ben keihard tegen zwerfvuil.
Vandaar.
Sjiekletten, die horen in de vuilbak, niet onder uw voeten.
Los daarvan vind ik ze ook keicool, die reclame. Je kunt die sjieklet aan uw muis laten hangen en meeslepen.
Goed gevonden zeg ik dan.
Ze doen dat daar goed bij Enchanté :)

Which me reminds me trouwens... Niets te maken met zwerfvui (wel met datzelfde Enchanté)l, maar vorige week kwam er hier een briefje binnen met daarin een compactflashkaartje en daarop een paar beeldjes. Dat ik mijn pollekes mag leggen op een Canon 5D Mark II.
Ik weet niet of dat nu allemaal te wijten is aan een post zoals deze, maar als het zo is, dan vraag ik volgende keer nog wat extra :P.

Binnenkort vind je dus mijn ervaringen met die camera hier terug.
Ik hoop dat er dan ook iemand toevallig een D700 mee heeft van al dat manvolk dat er ook zal zijn.
Gewoon, om es te voelen hoe die nu in de hand ligt.
Of Nikon, als jullie dit lezen... ik wil die gerust es testen hoor ;)

Scenario

De zeepbel barstte en de aandelenkoersen klapten in elkaar. Er kwam een run op de spaarbanken van mensen die al hun tegoeden wilden opnemen. Een groot aantal banken ging over de kop en velen verloren al hun spaargeld. De middenklasse verloor zo een groot deel van haar koopkracht en bezuinigde meer dan strikt noodzakelijk was. Veel industrieën hadden al een slechte orderpositie en gingen nu acuut failliet. Ze konden nergens geld meer lenen en als ze schulden hadden gemaakt bij een failliete bank werden die zonder coulance ingevorderd. De ontslagen arbeiders zagen door het ontbreken van sociale voorzieningen hun koopkracht tot nul dalen.

De ontwikkelingen gingen zo snel dat de normale evenwichtsmechanismen (rentedaling en loonkostendaling) niet meer functioneerden. Banken die er niet meer waren, konden ook geen geld meer uitlenen, zodat er hoe dan ook minder geïnvesteerd werd. Door het wegvallen van vertrouwen gingen de mensen thuis hun geld oppotten zodat de rente juist steeg. De vraaguitval leidde tot de gevreesde deflatoire spiraal: de prijzen daalden zo snel dat de consument, hopend op een nog verdere daling, zijn bestedingen uitstelde in plaats van vergrootte. Deflatie betekent ook dat de reële rente stijgt, zodat externe sturing door verlaging van de officiële rentestand geen effect meer heeft. Investeren was dus duur en leek gezien de enorme overproductie ook onzinnig. De kapitaalinvesteringen vielen dan ook vrijwel stil.

Het is zeker en vast geen accuraat scenario, maar duidt wel de gevolgen van een aantal zaken.
Als door wat er met Kaupting nu gebeurt, iedereen panikeert en zijn geld weghaalt komt er een spiraal op gang die allesbehalve positief is...

De onmacht en de banken

Het is al banken dat het nieuws slaat tegenwoordig.
Beleggers kijken diep in hun portefeuille en zien dat ze (bijna) leeg is.

Ik volg het nieuws en voel de onmacht.
Het heeft geen zin om nu snelsnel te verkopen, of je geld naar een andere bank te verplaatsen, het verergert de situatie alleen maar.

Op hetzelfde moment denk ik ook aan de ongelijkheid in dit geldspel:
Kleine zelfstandigen die overkop gaan, deurwaarders en curators aan de deur krijgen, hun leven voor hun ogen de dieperik in zien gaan, krijgen niet de ontslagpremies van hoge piefen die jaren van slecht beheer hebben gedaan.
Er is geen regering die hen steun biedt in bittere tijden door hun zaak krediet te geven, en er zijn al evenmin banken die redelijk zijn.

Als de banken overkop gaan, zal niemand moeten stoppen zijn hypotheek/leningen te betalen.
Neen. Erger: we gaan er gewoon allemaal voor opdraaien.
De 4 miljard euro die de regering in Fortis investeerde is al verdampt, luidt het.
4 miljard belastingsgeld, terwijl de bedroting nog niet eens rondgeraakt.
Ik wil niet pessimistisch klinken, maar het belooft voor de volgende jaren...

En waarom? Omdat een aantal banken met vuur hebben gespeeld.
Ik volg Karel Vinck zijn standpunt volledig.
En het ergste van dit alles vind ik het ongelooflijke stilzwijgen van Fortis, en KBC.
De goeie raad al een paar jaar uitoefend, heb ik (een beetje) geld op verschillende banken, Deutsche Bank stuurde een persoonlijke brief, waarin ze iedereen geruststelden (terecht of onterecht?) en wat zeker een goeie indruk maakte 'we zijn er mee bezig'. Ook Rabobank stuurde een nieuwsbrief uit, waar ze verwezen naar hun 3de positie op de ranking van veiligste bank.
Maar van Fortis, noch Dexia kwam er iets van communicatie.
Niets geruststellend.
Alleen een oorverdovende stilzwijgen.
En dus vrees ik dat er ook niet veel te geruststellen valt.

Een definitieve redding van Fortis tegen maandag, luidt het in krantenkoppen.
Mijn twijfel blijft: hoe kan een regering, die er nog niet in slaagt om zichzelf te vormen, laat staan geld bijeen te sparen voor een begroting, een bank redden.
Een regering die zich daarbij op de borst durft te slaan.

Nieuw academiejaar, here I come

Iedereen weet intussen dat ik werk op de academie, en een van de leuke voordelen daarvan is: bijscholing.

Ik heb besloten om terug in een paar lessen te gaan plaatsnemen.
Dus vanaf deze week volg ik Illustrator en Indesign.
Een tijdje terug heb ik geprobeerd beide te volgen op het KISP, maar, sorry to say, de kwaliteit ervan was ondermaats. In een klas gaan zitten om daar boekoefeningen te doen is allesbehalve mijn idee van les.
Gisteren in de les Illustrator voelen hoe de docent er echt de kneepjes van kent, verwijst naar werkwijzen, en hoe je dingen best aanpast. Verwijst naar andere werkwijzen maar uitlegt waarom je het toch best zo doet.
Fouten maakt en je daaruit laat leren.
Je oefeningen laat maken die nut hebben, functioneel zijn, en die je later steevast zal gebruiken.
Mooie dingen toont, en uitlegt hoe je ze zelf kan maken.
Fantastisch.

Terug naar school, en dat voelt heerlijk goed. :)

Ik snap dat dus niet he: een (meer dan) fulltime job, een lief, een projectje dat we aan het uitwerken zijn, en nog een boek tussenin lezen, dat is genoeg om geen tijd meer te hebben om (deftig) te bloggen.

Diene Michel, die heeft dan nog 4! kinders, een verbouwing, en een tijdsverdrijf dat al de resterende tijd zou kunnen opslorpen. Maar neen, die kan nog volle bak blogposts doen.

Zou die zo een Harry Potter Duplicate teuversprook gevonden hebben ofzo?

Marrakech & beyond

Na een korte maar aangenaam rustgevende reis zijn we terug thuis.

Ik hou van de Arabische wereld, met zijn handelaars, zijn heerlijke sfeer, de geur van kruiden in de souk, en de Sahara wind die overal wat stof doet opwaaien.
En toch moet ik toegeven dat het deze keer net iets anders was. Na 2 hectische maanden (met de laatste tijd werkdagen van meer dan 15u) was de reis eerder een crashpunt geworden, een punt waar je naar uitkijkt omdat er plots 15u van leven binnenkunnen sijpelen.
En het was bijgevolg een heel bewuste keuze om de computer deze keer veilig thuis te laten: niet om het internet, wel om de applicaties die een laptop mobiel maken.
Mezelf het onmogelijk maken elders te werken.
Een juiste keuze bleek al snel, want het was werkelijk 'even de stekker eruit'.

Voor urgente dingen was ik bereikbaar, de rest kon wel even wachten, en zoals wel vaker lossen dergelijke problemen zichzelf snel op. (Al te vaak wordt er veel te snel een mail verstuurd ipv even eerst de help functie te openen.)
Voor de eerste 2 internet vrije dagen in maanden alleen al was de reis al geslaagd.

En dan was er Marrakech: een vieze vuile stad op het eerste zicht, een oester op het tweede.
Achter kleine deurtjes verborgen in de kleine straatjes van de oude stad, vonden we telkens weer parels.

Side by side

Kijk, dat vind ik mooi, al die camera's naast elkaar.
En vooral: hoe verschillend ze zijn.
Let op het draaiwieltje, en hoe dat nergens op dezelfde plaats staat.
Of hoe de knopjes 'juist' staan, en soms niet.
User Interface, en hoe sommige merken van elkaar kunnen leren.

Persoonlijk was de feeling een van de dingen die me tegenstak toen ik mijn eerste Canon vastnam. Maar ze waren kwalitatief stukken beter dan de Nikons (toendertijd, intussen zijn die grote merken gewoon erg aan elkaar gewaagd).
En eerlijk: zoiets is heel persoonlijk. Want zoals iedereen een andere hand heeft, zo heeft iedereen ook een ander gevoel.
En in dat opzicht vind ik het super dat er eindelijk een nieuwe speler in de markt van de DSLR's komt: dat betekent gewoon meer UI. Meer keus. Meer kans dat er iets goed 'past'.

Update: Dingen die voor mij belangrijk zijn bij een camera: vanzelfsprekend hoe de foto's uit de camera komen, hoe ie in de hand ligt, hoe luid ie klinkt (!), hoe ie focust (of em al dan niet zotdraait).
Voor mij is fotografie niet zozeer achteraf digitaal bijwerken (hoewel dat natuurlijk een belangrijk stuk van de job uitmaakt), maar wel het fotograferen op het ogenblijk zelf. En daarvoor wil je dan graag een leuk toestel, die leuk is om mee te werken, en je het minste zorgen bezorgt.
Ik ben blij dat de digitale camera's hun kinderziekten beginnen te verdwijnen, en ik herinner me levendig hoe ik zei: van het ogenblik er een betaalbare fullframe minstens 12Mp uitkomt doe ik mee.
Ik herinner me ook hoe ik toch eerder al een digitale camera aankocht, omdat de markt dat vereiste: snel foto's aanleveren. En dat, toen de 5D uitkwam, ik dacht 'eindelijk' maar toch nog even moest wachten wegens aankoop huis.
En nu opnieuw denk 'eindelijk' :)

Aarzel niet om in de comments te schrijven wat voor jullie belangrijk is aan een camera. Ik ben benieuwd.

Ollieprijzen

Vandaag op de Standaard: De olieprijzen onder de 100dollar per vat.
Dan vraag ik me (fijntjes) luidop af: zullen electrabel en de andere leveranciers, die de prijzen verhoogden wegen de hoge olieprijzen, nu hun prijzen dan ook verlagen?
Of steken ze die winst gewoon in eigen zak.

Ik vrees ervoor...

Sporten voor mijn goeie doel?

De mensen van CM Oost Vlaanderen hebben een nieuw (nuja nieuw, het dateert van maart) initiatief: sporten stimuleren ovv van een sportkorting. Ik kom niet direct in aanmerking, want klant bij de collega's.

En I admit, ik wil wel graag sporten, maar het effectief doen is een pak moeilijker. Verder dan de 3 weken zwemmen, en de eerste 5 sessies met Evi, en 3 weken later nog eens eenzelfde poging ben ik voorlopig niet geraakt. Laat staan dat ik uren ga zweten in een fitness en daar nog geld voor betalen.
(Hoewel, ik ben bijna zo hopeloos over die lovehandles dat ik zelfs dat overweeg tegenwoordig...)

Back to CM: een paar dagen geleden verwittigden ze me van hun veiling voor het goeie doel.
Persoonlijk heb ik het niet zo voor veilingen voor het goede doel. Ik vind dat meestal vaak zwaar overroepen.

Maar na een vluchtige blik op de site, viel mijn oog op een actie die wel werkelijk voor het goede doel is, mijn goed doel, wel te verstaan.

Niet het uur joggen met de Joeri (duoh!, ik loop de 5de dag met Evi al te zweten als een paard na 10 minuten...), niet schaatsen met Katrien, en ook niet het mountainbiken (fans van dit blog weten intussen dat ik een Eddy Merckx 'koers'velo heb, geen mountainbike).

Neen, die massage, die doet het em.
Een ontspannende massage, door een schoon madam (of meer), en 'specialisten' die mij op krachten laten komen.
Dat klinkt ongelooflijk schitterend in mijn oren.

Maar dan de bummer: 'na een uitputtende wedstrijd'.
Dat, dames en heren, betekent dat er wel degelijk moet gesport worden. :(

Dus, ik heb geboden voor die "Massage voor mij en mijn team".
En ik zoek dus ook kandidaten voor mijn team om die "uitputtende"* wedstrijd mee te spelen.

Bij wedstrijd denk ik aan:
-partijtje sjotten (bloggers tegen elkaar??)
-basketgame (als we geen 11 man bijeenkrijgen.)
-fietsen?
-...

Wie doet mee?
Of: wie biedt hoger en wordt ons concurrerend team? :P
(De winnaars krijgen de massage)

*Lees de "aanhalingstekens", we kunnen er ook uitgeput 'uitzien'.

Netlash geeft iPhones aan hun medewerkers, Markee doen van BBQ, Boulevart geeft een pizza festijn. Werken is fun geworden!

Ik daag nu een buro uit die mee begint te lipdubben!

Zonder zeveren: je zou er zowaar bijna je zelfstandigenbestaan voor gaan opgeven om zo ergens te mogen gaan werken.
Bijna. ;)

Metatale

Ik heb het al eerder gezegd: ik vind Metatale een knap en gedurfd intiatief van de mannen van Netlash, Openminds en Pixelpanic.
Maar over hun Top 100 (en bijgevolg hun algoritme) heb ik nog steeds mijn twijfels.
Dat er een paar mensen die de afgelopen maanden niets meer posten in de top 20 kunnen staan is vreemd (maar verklaarbaar), nog vreemder is het als blogs die slechts 2 of 3 posts hebben die dateren van januari 08 in de lijst terecht komen, terwijl blogs met inhoud er daardoor uitgebonjourd worden.
Maar als een blog als redfox-babes (en ik link echt niet!) plaats 29 inneemt met blote t*tten, dan verliezen ze wel geloofwaardigheid.
Persoonlijke mening, he.

(Dit is echt geen aanval, gewoon een kritische bedenking.)

Ik heb het niet altijd even hoog op, maar bij Microsoft zijn ze de laatste tijd toch wel bezig met coole apps.
Alleen spijtig dat ze in webview voor bepaalde toepassingen 'enkel op IE draaien' .

Consumententerrorisme ?

Ik kreeg net een mailtje van BDMA, voor hun congres 'Revenge of the I'.
Mooie uitdagende titel. Met een inhoud die eveneens aanspreekt:

Door customer empowerment, sociale netwerken, steeds meer responsacties o.a. vanwege de adverteerders, overheid en mediabedrijven is de interactiviteit met de consument aan een grondige herziening toe.

Individuen of andere stakeholders leveren input aan bedrijven via briefwisseling, mondeling aan de receptie, telefonisch aan alle afdelingen, aan de klantendienst/service na verkoop, via weblogs, e-mails in de pers, …

De lijst van mogelijke kanalen om in communicatie te treden met goederen en /of dienstenleveranciers is de laatste jaren gestaag gestegen en de daarbij horende informatiestromen zijn exponentieel toegenomen.

Maar dan komt de vreemde zin:

"Tijdens ons congres op 17 oktober, in Mechelen, gaan we dieper in op het huidige “consumententerrorisme” dat met de opkomst van digitale en sociale technologieën zijn ingang maakt, denk hierbij aan blogs, e-mail, social networks etc,.... Surf naar www.bdma.be voor meer info."

Sinds wanneer worden bloggers (die niet meer of minder is dan een actieve consumer ) consumenten terroristen genoemd?
Sinds de 'brands' en 'marketing' er niet mee om kunnen?
Voorwaar een reden om mee te doen aan hun online discussie.

According to this reportage, there are several members of the Europarlement making money by signing in while leaving few minutes later.
I am not sure how accurate this is, but I stick to the saying 'where there is smoke...'
I hope spreading the movie might make sure measurements are taken to avoid this total waste of money..

Zoomit and e-invoicing.

The independents amongst my readers probably know what I mean by 'the trouble of invoicing'.
Invoicing never has been such a burden.
I don't have a real problem finding jobs (I actually have too many at the moment. People in for serious co-op can drop a mail.)

The real trouble is being paid..
Once you have sent your invoice, the waiting starts.
While in Belgium the official 'due time' is one month, many, way too many companies neglect this, and if you get paid after 2 months you can be happy.
Most agencies never bother to pay before those 2 months.

And then the trouble comes in: imagine: you getting your wage after only 2 months...
(My advise to anyone becoming independent: make sure you have a serious money pig aside to fill this gap of cashflow. Really)
I was prepared for it when I started. And I still am. But I do see a huge shift in paying habits of the clients. They all pay a little later than before.
You often have to send a 'reminder'.

So I am happy to see the Zoom-It initiative. It is e)invoicing but even better. Because e-invoicing means your clients gets the invoice by mail in its mailbox. Zoom-it means your client get his invoice in his bankaccount.
Each time he opens his e-banking he'll see this or that invoice is still due.
And that's something I like.
I want my client to see that he still owes me in an obvious place. Where better than in your e-banking?
I am happy to see my invoicing software coops with them, so I can send invoices out of my software straight to the client.

Banks cooperating: KBC, Fintro, Dexia, Fortis, ING, Landbouwkrediet, AXA, Centea.
Receiving ZoomIt documents is free, sending them is at a cost.
Prices are not known yet...

Red hanky..

I wasn't sure if this ad was real or not. It just had to be a spoof.
After checking it online, seeing some major newspapers & Vista Magazine wrote about it, and verifying with someone within MS itself made me assume it is real, yet, it is still hard to believe for me.
Really. How can someone *not* know, how could it pass all controls.
I am not talking about song, or the cheesiness (which was surely meant to be), but about the red hanky Bruce/lookalike is wearing..



When seeing this picture, you definitely have to think about Bruce Springsteen's cover of Born in the USA.



But repeating this image nowadays is rather strange.
Bruce did have a lot of 'trouble' after putting his but on the cover like that.
Because red hankies in your right back-pocket do mean something, from a gayish point of view.

The Gay Hankie Code, has been around since the 1970's. The different colors are code for what activity you are looking for and if you the giver of such activity it goes into your left pocket, if you are the receiver of such activity it goes into your right pocket. The red hankie is a bit hardcore. You may want to fully understand the code before you go about dropping hankies into your back pockets.

Bruce had the excuse back then it wasn't a hanky, but a baseball hat.
Yet, today it is definitely a hanky.
Red actually means 'f*st f*ck'
Right pocket means you're the passive one, the bottom, the one being 'screwed' ;)

Getting this translated into the Vista ad (rockin our sales = red hanky)..
Well....from a marketing point of view it wasn't really the best choice made, I guess.

(Luckily they didn't choose 'Teal Blue' *rotfl* )

After re-reading all of this, I do think it is a good joke they made.
Just because of that red hanky :)

Club Med Testing for you :)

The very nice people of Club Med contacted me a while ago, wondering if I'd be interested testing their facilities and writing my experiences down.

A free midweek in Chamonix. Who'd say no to such an offer?
Not me!

So on Sunday I leave for few days to go and check their hotel, their spa, and I certainly hope to enjoy some skiing around.
I'll posting my pics and experiences on this site.

Yesterday I received the program, and I have to say: 'Mjammie'.
Each Club Med Village has its own 'specialties' and Chamonix, features, except for its magnificent view on the Mont Blanc, a spa, sauna, beauty center for 'new energy', good food and a very charming hotel. And snow, of course.

'New Energy', let that be what I need right now, so I am definitely looking forward to the Balinese massage we receive upon arrival.

Getting pregnant

I am transgender, legally male, and legally married to Nancy. Unlike those in same-sex marriages, domestic partnerships, or civil unions, Nancy and I are afforded the more than 1,100 federal rights of marriage. Sterilization is not a requirement for sex reassignment, so I decided to have chest reconstruction and testosterone therapy but kept my reproductive rights. Wanting to have a biological child is neither a male nor female desire, but a human desire.

I know some people that envy this man :)

Villa Aqua via Bongo

At new year, C received some Bongo-bons (we actually all did, I think P did a great job highlighting them just before the christmas holidays)

A sauna-bon, to be precise.
I slipped the words 'I am not sooo fond of sauna, I can barely breathe there.'
Which got mis-interpret a bit, since I do love going to hamams and bathing places. Heck, I traveled especially to Budapest and Istanbul for those.
One of my best travelling experiences occurred in a very old but beautiful hamam in Syria, Aleppo, where children were playing and women were singing, probably just like it used to be. I got washed and scrubbed by this huge lady. All of it making me smile.

It took a while but we finally managed to get to Villa Aqua in Oostend.
A stunning and beautiful bathing place, with great architecture.
On top of that super-clean.

We spent the whole afternoon in the place and got finally home, totally relaxed.
Great idea, which will be repeated more than often I guess.

Priced at 39,50 euro for 2, the bongo bon is a great bargain, as it is cheaper than the normal entrance price.
Important to know: bathing suits are not allowed. Best to bring your own towels, yet, if in need, you can hire them too.

Yesterday I was in Madrid, today I got this mail:

You even posted my website as one of your daily links... (it was really a surprise).
I keep reading you blog, at least once a week (too busy to read all my feeds daily). It's really interesting, and getting better all the time. I take this opportunity to congratulate you for all the great things you are getting in the last couple or years: your work, your own flat, your girl... You deserve it... :)
Since then, I also have some news... now I have a daughter of 20 months. Her name is Nerea and she's really a little princess.. You'd love her. :)
And well, today I read that you are in my city (Madrid) !!!! Or maybe gone by now... :(
I've seen that you were in the city center... I have even recongnised one of the shops where I buy shows (Tacones, in Preciados) :) That's funny :)

Letter to a geek

A nice letter in the ordinary mailbox, from the Flemish Government.
I thought it was rather funny, and couldn't keep it from this blog: An article on girl geeks (read geeks in capital), a site, some blogs, and enough contact / comment opportunity to email

Yet.. a simple 3 lines snailmail, in my mailbox.

I have to admit, it still works, as months later, it still is there, lying, waiting to be scanned to be put upon this blog.

U deserve a personal bank assistant...

Few months ago, I received this letter from Fortis, accompanied with the message the bank would grant me 3 months of 'no costs on my bankaccount' as I turned out to be a ' good business client'.

3 months of no costs meant 10 euro... 10 euro...
OMG, the bank gave me a discount of 10 euro!!! Whooo!
(C'mon, if they would have given me a higher percentage for my savings account, maybe then I would have written more positive about this event.)

The remarkable thing is: this letter and this discount came not so long after I moved those savings to Rabobank.be, where, by now, I already earned the same as last year.)

Be aware: I moved those savings AFTER a talk with my bank, where I asked them to tell me what was the best solution for those savings: short term investment, whatever. It turned out, the best they could give me was 4.3 percent (bruto), which actually turned out 3.6 netto. At that moment I got 3.5 at Rabobank, without the need to 'block' my savings for 6 months.

So now apparently they discovered a rather nice amount disappeared from my account, to a better piggybank.

So A. V., maybe I'll come to you one day. Or maybe you can come to my house, talk about pigs and coins.
But I hope you have something to tell which will make me happy, rather than smile.
Happy news, like if your bank suddenly would decide to give their dear customers money for their money.

Not sure, your employer would ever do such a thing though...

Philip Henderickx is not an artist.

At least that is what he likes to claim. But maybe we’d better not take his word for it. After all, it is rather strange that we should hear this from a man who paints every single day. A strangeness similar to Margritte painting a pipe and saying that “this is not a pipe”.
‘I’ d rather have someone else play the artist,’ says Henderickx.

So what indications for this vacant role can we find in his work? What life story could we make up for this fictitious person who ís an artist? What characters does he incorporate?

I still did't figure out if he's real or ot, ad who is behid him. I requested an art book ad received one. Strange thing.

Shopping

Ha!, found myself the sweetest leather jacket for a mere 130 euro (the last one in my size and right under the nose of another women, same size) instead of 225.

Managed to find a pair of shoes at 50 euro instead of 85, new collection though, they wrongly put them on sales. Ha!

Shopping turned out splendid this year (especially for someone who hates shopping) :)

Since the launch of deredactie.be, vrtnieuws is forwarded to that site. Unfortunately, I'd day, since I liked the simple yet clear design of the first better.

I was nicely surprised yesterday when finding out that vrtnieuws.be still popped up in old layout. But my luck didn't last long. When clicking, immediately it shows that that mirror site isn't working properly anymore. A pity...

Eco-lodge

So we stayed in this eco-lodge for some days.
No luxury, only the basic stuff. For food, one night fish, one night veggie, and simple huts on the beach.

You wake from the sun, and at dawn, when night falls, few lamps enable you to read a book, talk with people. In your hut, there is no electricity. Only candles, or pocket light can do the job. So you go to sleep.
Cold showers, unless you're able to wait a little until the solar powered boilers give you enough warm water.

And sun, sun, sun.

A quiet pace falls upon everybody over there, and you can't help but notice that people, upon arrival loud and busy, shift, to using soft voices, and a slower rhythm.

It's not an everyday vacation, but it surely helps you to rest , and look at life from a different perspective.

Internet free for 5 days

We decided to travel to Egypt without computer. And when we arrived at the eco-lodge, we knew we'd be totally off line for quite some days.

I didn't miss it a second. Moreover, I was happy to be unreachable by mail, msn, or phone. Such a relief. No blog-posts to write, no emails to answer.
I just read this nice book, where somewhere it said 'This activity is al just to keep yourself convinced you are working. In fact you'll see, after you come back, that nothing bad happened. No earthshaking things changed your life unknowingly. No. Most of the time, people will call you back, problems will be solved without you, and life just goes on.'
I knew the writer was right.
I had mobile connection, my mom knew the phone of the place we were staying, and if something terrible would have happened in the family, I am sure I would have known.
Clients you ask? All my stuff was checked profoundly, and the only one who called was a new client who wanted an appointment. All the others sent emails, got an auto-reply they'd be answered as quick as possible. Which turned out 5 days later.
Of course it helped it was christmas and anyone was going slow anyway due to vacation, and the slow beginning of the new year.
Yet in other circumstances I would have had similar outcome, I believe. SHort term assignments wouldn't be possible anyway. And for long time, people very often call back.

Internet free vacations?
Heaven I tell you.
I predict a future for stress (read wifi free) places. Where women take there husbands off the computer, because it simply isn't possible. Where internet junks will suddenly realize internet free places are livable. And where people, so attached to their work, cut the strings for a few days, and notice that the world keeps on turning.

So what do you think of wifi/internet free places? Heaven or hell?

On the way back

We are actually on the way back from (almost) 10 days of an (almost) internet free vacation.

It felt great!

Tip from the expert??

It says: "..to make your blog better make sure that you repeatedly use your companyname." .. "To avoid visual distraction, you can make your first sentence white. This way Google finds you, without your readers know this."

Himhum... Tip from the expert??
This isn't a tip from an expert, but a dirty google trick, called keyword stuffing.

We read at Google Guidelines:

Quality guidelines - basic principles

• Make pages for users, not for search engines. Don't deceive your users or present different content to search engines than you display to users, which is commonly referred to as "cloaking."
• Avoid tricks intended to improve search engine rankings. A good rule of thumb is whether you'd feel comfortable explaining what you've done to a website that competes with you. Another useful test is to ask, "Does this help my users? Would I do this if search engines didn't exist?"
• Don't participate in link schemes designed to increase your site's ranking or PageRank. In particular, avoid links to web spammers or "bad neighborhoods" on the web, as your own ranking may be affected adversely by those links.
• Don't use unauthorized computer programs to submit pages, check rankings, etc. Such programs consume computing resources and violate our Terms of Service. Google does not recommend the use of products such as WebPosition Gold™ that send automatic or programmatic queries to Google.

Some explanation on hiding text:

Don't try to hide keywords by making the background color the same as the font color. This is called keyword stuffing or fontmatching. Google and other search engines are increasingly sophisticated at catching this, and they'll likely remove any offending Web sites from their search engine index. Likewise, watch how small you make the text. In a variation of keyword stuffing, some people try to put teeny tiny text at the bottom of a page. It doesn't work.

Hof Van Cleve (Dutch)

We werden eergisteren uitgenodigd naar Hof Van Cleve.
Een uitnodiging die men niet snel afslaat, me dunkt.

Als Bob van dienst zou ik ons gezelschap terug heelhuids thuisbrengen.
En een Bob is geen overbodige luxe bedachten wij ons, terwijl we ons door de kleine straatjes richting restaurant manoevreerden.

Een ruim welkomstcomitee (voor elke vrouw een man) ontnam ons van onze jassen terwil de gastvrouw ons welkom heette, waarna we werden begeleid naar onze tafel.
Een gezellige 'chicque' die hele avond werd aangehouden maar aangenaam werd onderbroken door de sympathieke obers. Onze gastvrouw had ons op voorhand al gewaarschuwd 'Breng een 'sjakos' mee, die zetten ze dan op een tafeltje', en inderdaad. Het proberen waard :)

De menukeuze was snel gemaakt. Het 'Menu van de Ontdekking' zou ons de volgende 11 gangen bezig gaan houden. Voor de anderen met begeleidende wijnen, voor mij met 'sprankelend water'.

Na de kleine smakelijke hapjes, begaven wij ons op, voor ons, culinair ijs, en schaatsten doorheen de voortreffelijke bereidingen.

Waar de titels op de menukaart ons summier leken (Zeeuwse Platte Oester, Buik van Tonijn 'Bleufin', Zeescheermes, St Jacobsvrucht uit Dieppe, Langoustine 'Guilvinec', Deense Kabeljauw, Oosterschelde Paling, Haas 'Van bij ons', Peer 'Doyenné du comice', Chocalade 'Equador', Chocolade en zoetigheden) werden deze poetisch vertaald tot een waar kortverhaal.
Waarop iemand van het gezelschap de ober gevat antwoordde 'Ligt dit allemaal op mijn bord?'

En dit vat onmiddellijk het menu samen: de 3 sterren van Hof Van Cleve bevinden zich duidelijk in het complexe samenspel van de verschillende, uitgebreide, niet altijd evidente ingredientenkeuzes.
Dit is de ene keer hemels (zoals bij de Buik van Tonijn, of de St Jacobsvrucht), de andere keer komt het nagenoeg een beetje 'te' over.
Waarbij we ons natuurlijk gewagen aan kritiek als onervaren stuurlui.
Want laat het duidelijk zijn: het eten en het hele gebeuren was een waar genot.

Maar in overdaad.
Wat mij onmiddellijk brengt tot mijn grootste commentaar: tot de desserten was het menu licht en verteerbaar. Mijn tafelgenoten verkeerden al in een iets lichter euforische sfeer door de wijnen, waar mijn euforie vooral te wijten was aan het gadeslaan van het hele gebeuren.
Maar bij de desserten aangekomen overviel plots zwaarte van 'overdosis'.
Daar waar voor mij even eerder alles nog vlot door de keel ging, voelde ik plots dat de maag protesteerde..
We zaten overvol.
Toen eenieder alsnog de laatste zoetigheden probeerde tot zich te nemen, op de rand van misselijk worden, kwam de ober met 'oliebollen'.
Een ware Aha-Erlebenis, helaas in de minder positieve zin. Onze gezichten verraadden wat onze buik ons probeerde te zeggen 'Dit is teveel'.

In dit menu had er gerust een gang minder gemogen. Het spreekt voor zich dat als je gaat eten in dergelijk restaurant je niet de neiging hebt dingen te 'laten liggen' en graag alles proeft.
Als dit leidt tot een opgeblazen gevoel, na een reeks van voortreffelijke gangen, is dit, wat mij betreft, een gemiste afsluiter.
Een beetje jammer voor een voor de rest perfect geslaagde avond.

En de oliebollen blijf ik een ongelukkige keuze vinden. Niemand van ons heeft een seconde eraan gedacht er eentje te nemen.

Hoewel..

(De rekening vraagt u? Wij kwamen er vanaf met een prijskaartje van 290 euro pp)

Leuk om weten:
U reserveert best lang van tevoren. (Alle info op de site).
Voor de rokers is er geen rokersruimte, maar er is wel een poncho om u warm te houden :)
Bij het buitengaan ontvangt u (naast de rekening ;) ) ook een leuk boekje en het menu als herinnering.

Since there is still no government, and no new projects are initiated, since there are no ministers to confirm existing projectproposals on hold, I believe there is A LOT of money in governments NOT being spent.

Would this mean next year we'll have a 'begrotingsoverschot' without loads of strange fiscal tricks?

Journalism..

What do we read yesterday in the newspaper? Bruno Lowagie got a message from the RSZV that he has to become independent because of his google ads.

Before every blogger jumps on horses: first check your accountant.
He'll be able to tell you if you need to become independent or not. I checked this with my accountant, and he told me that most of the people will never need to get the statue of independent, as this can be considered as 'side income below a certain amount'.

With an extra income below 1000 euro (which will be often the case for most bloggers) the State will never make a big deal out of it.

This explanation by an accountant is something I am missing in the article from a journalistic/juridic point of view.

Of course it is the duty of the RSZV to tell that one should pay taxes for money you earn, and they certainly won't tell you you shouldn't declare this income. Heck, they are pretty aware of the amount they loose due to eBay, and Google Ads. People who never declare this to the state. (We're certainly talking about of loads and loads of money here. People who gain an extra earning out of buying and selling on eBay.)

But give the impression that every blogger should become independent is certainly misinformation according to me.

Extra sidenote: Bruno Lowagie somewhere talks about 1000 euro/month income of GoogleAds. In one year this means a side income of nearly 15000 euro. Quite logic why the RSZV knocks on his door.
I do understand that this dropped til 120 euro/month now. And that RSZV still accounts him on the income of 3 years ago.
Most of the bloggers will never get more than let's say 1000 euro/year thanks to Enchante or GoogleAds. Others will certainly have to check with an accountant and discover the advantages of being partly independent: buy computers without VAT, put that camera on your expenses, just make sure you don't make too many debts. And you'll see, being independent isn't so bad.

Backing up a mac

Since it has been almost a year, I am planning to do a clean install of this computer.
What it means?
I have like 500mb left (out of 74gb) (due to the large photo collection), and urgently have to clean up files.

What do I do?
-I make a copy of my home folder to another HD.
-Meanwhile I make an screenshot of my applications and check if I have all original disks for the programs I want to re-install.
(I already know that the big clean up lies in checking those programs I actually never used and are only taking disc-space.)
-The copy of the home folder is NEVER enough. Some preferences, bookmarks are stored elsewhere. Don't forget them. With a clean re-install, you want to be sure you back-upped everything.
-Since I do this every 6 months, by now I know what to be aware of:

*Mail (be sure you copy it well, otherwise it's lost.)(copy your inbox + sent and drafts into subfolders, otherwise they're lost)
This is really the problem I am always faced with. I always did it the way Apple proposes, yet always my current inbox is gone. Not cool!
*Dreamweaver accounts. Make sure you have all logins and passwords somewhere outside.
*Fonts (very often they reside in your general Library and not inside your home library)
*Plugins for Quicktime. I found myself a nice series of plugins xwhich make sure AVI, divx's and sofort are playing well in my quicktime, enabling sound. Be sure to copy these as they are sometimes hard to find on the web.
*Preference panes
*Widgets
*internet plugins. Same story.

Can someone tell why the CD&V + NVA insist on having Leterme as a prime-minister, if he doesn't even succeed in getting a government in 176 days.
C'mon guys. If a company wouldn't succeed in getting the factory to work after 176 days it would be bankrupt. And if it wasn't, I am pretty sure no-one would keep the current manager.

Meanwhile the king is talking to Verhofstadt. And Somers talks wise words 'Het kan de mensen niet schelen wie er in de Wetstraat 16 komt. De mensen maken zich zorgen over hun koopkracht, de stijgende energieprijzen, bedrijven in moeilijkheden.'

I am definitely hanging the De Morgen poster, because 'Zou het toch niet eenvoudiger zijn als de regering het volk ontbond en er een ander koos?'

Liege Airport

Walloon is doing well in airport business it seems...
An airport in Charleroi (pretty know due to Ryanair), but Liege also has a pretty beautiful airport.

Euro vs euri

What's up with this euri thing?
Bruno already wrote it back in January. But apparently more and more are using the wrong plural.
You can read it at Pietel, Kerygma, Tales from the crib, beau, and many more.
As long as I remember the Dutch plural of euro is 'euro's'
Euri doesn't exist. At all..
So, is there an unknown collaborative effort of bloggers trying to re-create language? Or are they just trying to be tragically hip ;P

I got myself subscribed to a newsletter 'Bizz by Mail'

And it's great.
It's actually fun to receive it each morning and reading the crisp short messages.

To the guy that noticed my flattening tire on the high way and made sure I stopped. (Yep indeed you don't feel this at first, especially not when it is raining and you tend to think it is because of the different road conditions.)
To the guys who helped to add air and pin point me to the nearest motor shop.
To the shop owner who was accidently at his (closed) shop and who was so kind to fix the tyre (for a mere 20 euro instead of an expensive road assistance)

A bit scary afterwards when you start to think of what could have happened.
But then again: it didn't.

2003. Science department in elBullitaller. Our interest in establishing a dialogue with science began to become consolidated in 2003 when we contacted Pere Castells, a scientist and gourmet. At first, the relationship was informal, but as the Alícia Foundation project took shape, it gradually took on a more professional nature, right up to the implementation of the science department, which represented a bridge between the Workshop and Alícia. With Pere Castells and Íngrid Farré, who joined soon afterwards, we began by organising ourselves, looking for a work structure, establishing contacts with manufacturers of food products, new devices or instruments, gathering information and reading books, and so on. From 2004 onwards, Pere and Íngrid carried on this research in Alícia. We also analysed the world of textures that we had created in recent years (foams, hot jellies, clouds, airs, texlavazza, spherification, etc.), and we decided to find out why these preparations were possible, what physical and chemical processes were involved and how the products that made these textures possible acted. All this was because of our conviction that awareness of the scientific processes involved in cooking constituted the basis for evolution.

Chapter One

This is turning out rather differently than I had expected, she thought, I could well be on my way to making history. She grabbed her bag and rushed off to catch the last train to the city. Attempting to catch her breath, Kristie found an empty seat and rushed to fill it. She searched the faces of the passengers around her and decided she’d finally lost the tall man in the suit that had been tailing her, but she couldn’t yet loosen the grip on her bag in her lap. As the train lumbered and jostled down the track, she closed her eyes for a moment and wondered just how the hell she had gotten herself into this mess. She felt a tap on her shoulder, and sat looking straight into the eyes of a tall man in the suit. “I believe you dropped this” he said, his voice raspy like he’d been smoking since the day he was born. His eyes were a pale blue and up close she could see a weary sadness in them. Tearing her own eyes from this curious gaze, she forced herself to glance towards his hesitantly outstretched hand. The hand was unlike any other hand that she had ever seen. It reminded her of autumn leaves, spreading out across an open stretch of land, the skin was pale, almost yellow in complexion, yet the fingers were beautifully made things, stretching out towards her. ‘Why are you following me?’ she whispered. “Because you need me.” he replied, narrowing his eyes.

His words made her heart pound uncontrollably and her hands go numb, she was shaking as she reached for the unmarked envelope he was holding. Her mind raced as she tried to imagine what could possibly be contained inside. Kristie began to open the envelope, only to have the old man put out his hand and state, “No, not here.” She paused, slowly sliding the envelope into her bag before asking “Who are you?”

Belgium enjoys no government...

Belgium has been without a government for three months and some people wonder whether it matters.

Actually I was wondering yesterday: September is the month politics is starting business again. So what's going to happen now?
What are those people in the cabinet doing these days? ;)
And is Verhofstadt just continuing or are the bosses gone?

I mean: who is leading the country at this point??
(Not Leterme I guess.)
(And if this continues, will we become a test case like 'Jericho', will chaos organize itself? ;P)

Ikea...

A roommate moving means different furniture... (We had *almost* the same shelves before)
So we ended up with new Ikea bookshelves to mount. Dunno, but Ikea very often lacks the details in finishing. Me lying on the shelves isn't testing it's strength, it's just a attempt to finish the details...

Do you like Ikea? Or do you have horror stories on construction.
Do you also wonder how much the workers in the factories earn when they manage to offer us 6 glasses for 2 euro?

Paradise now...

Yesterday we watched 'Paradise now' a movie on a day in the life of 2 suicide bombers. I admit, I still am attracted to movies coming from Israel or Palestine.

PARADISE NOW" is the story of two young Palestinian men as they embark upon what may be the last 48 hours of their lives. On a typical day in the West Bank city of Nablus, where daily life grinds on amidst crushing poverty and the occasional rocket blast, we meet two childhood best friends, Saïd (Kais Nashef) and Khaled (Ali Suliman), who pass time drinking tea, smoking a hookah, and working dead-end menial jobs as auto mechanics.

Saïd is approached by middle-aged Jamal (Amer Hlehel), a point man for an unnamed Palestinian organization, who informs Saïd that he and Khaled have been chosen to carry out a strike in Tel Aviv. They have been chosen for this mission as a team, because each had expressed a wish that if either is to die a martyr, the other would want to die alongside his best friend.

"PARADISE NOW" follows two Palestinian childhood friends who have been recruited for a strike on Tel Aviv and focuses on their last days together. When they are intercepted at the Israeli border and separated from their handlers, a young woman who discovers their plan causes them to reconsider their actions.

I really wondered how this controversial movie would handle such a political theme.
I was silently surprised to see how the director really showed whole lot of reality and stupidity. On both sides.
And meanwhile it still had some hilarious scenes.
The story line is rather thin, and it is certainly a slow film but yet I never felt it during the movie.

When I left for Israel and for the Palestinian territories, I remember asking Yasser several times 'How can someone decide to give up life?'
After 2 years living over there I can say I think I understand how someone can come to such an act. For someone not having lived there, this movie truly gives a worthwhile insight.

Quote I remember best?: 'They manage to be the occupier and the victim in the same moment, ..., I cannot do but die and kill.'
Things that struck me: it is filmed in real places, and gives a really accurate view on how life is over there.
Feelings I remember myself: when crossing a checkpoint, you feel the humiliation and the hate growing inside yourself. The film reflects it well.

I had to smile when seeing Palestine on my screen, recalling reality in my head.
And how I long to go back.
To both sides...

Really worth seeing!
-When you rent the dvd do check the extra's like the making of. You'll see some difficulties they had making it.-

Libelle most beautiful travel picture contest: vote on me :)

Last month Libelle launched a picture contest 'best travel picture', and I participated.

Travelling van...

One of the things I want in a far or close future is a van to go on trips.
Both C and I look forward to find one and design a brand new designy interior for it.
Yet finding the perfect car and being challenged by its limits will take us a long way before the traveling van ever gets ready.

A VW Van looks gorgeous, yet the more looking at it, the more I am convinced it is too small, not convenient, and way too expensive + too old to travel decently.
Any advise on where/what to buy + where to find info on how to build a traveling van? T get us dreaming?

She's gotten very silent lately...

She's pretty silent since this morning the bell rang unexpectedly.
Her little portable arrived some days in advance. (But it took her time enough to get her longing...)
Except from a little grumbling (coz things are different from pc) here and there, she glances once in a while at me.
Definitely happy with her new baby.

I regained all rights to mine, so full time working these days :)
(And yes, I envy a little bit...)

One of those days love to skip

-The ordered curtains that arrived already 2 weeks too late now have a wrong measurement. I guess that means a lot of going around and more waiting. I am pretty sure I am not gonna be that nice, since, well, these curtains were meant for keeping the morning sun out of my room. Not so much summer any more...
-My upgrade for internet is not going through, not even after an hour, and as I planned to do a lot of work today, and I am not being able to go online at the moment, I am getting even more pissed off.
-Which actually leaves me with: doing the dishes, vacuuming my rooms, cleaning the living room. Did I already mentioned I am pretty pissed off?

It actually points out the things I do online: working, shopping, calling, chatting, and a bunch of other stuff.
Would the rumor of the internet crashing (*) down would become true? And if so, what would it mean for you?
I guess here, some of us would get a nervous break down ;)

Love Story of a lifetime.

It ain't no secret: I happen to have a girlfriend these days.

We are firmly in love.
The story? Genuinely incredible...

One night, I went out dancing at my favorite party. Suddenly I was struck by this girl.
Later that night, after some drinks, I went to her and spoke the unforgettable words 'I know you.'
She looked at me with some disbelief in her eyes, a bit surprised, but also this look like 'sure you do...'
But as I had enough drinks, I continued: 'You are C., and your family name is VH.'
Her eyes grew of more disbelief, and I just continued: 'We grew up together.'

Must have been my best pick up line in years, as the night continued and C didn't disappear at all. On the contrary... :)

Earthquakes

I remember sitting in a restaurant in Paracas and pointing out to these stickers on the wall 'Secure zone in case of earthquake', smiling back then, because we were 'secure'.
I guess that already pointed out there is a definite danger in Peru, and definitely is a consequence of what happened in 1970.
With good result as only few people (compared to back then) were hurt.

Nevertheless: Peru is in need for help, and the most vulnerable period is just starting as there is a lack for water and people start looting.

The numbers and the magnitude of the disaster keep increasing [beyond 500 dead already]. I want to dedicate this one post to collect data on how to help to the victims in case some reader is in situation to be able and want to do it. (For English readers this is what CNN is saying about it: Dead scattered in the streets of quake-ravaged Peru and this is my post in Global Voices: Peru: Online Earthquake Coverage also WorldWideHelp has updated info).

Big in Japan, sorry China

One of the advantages of writing in English, is the possibility to be picked up on the other side of the world.

Today a magazine arrived. From abroad.
When I opened it, strange fonts stared at me. C. looked at me with question marks in her eyes.
I glanced mysteriously at her: 'I am big in Japan China.' A fast wink.
As I started to look in the magazine and had to turn it upside down, go page by page, I couldn't find the article.
'So far for big in China.' my girlfriend smiled.
And then suddenly there it was.
I expected nothing more than a few lines in an, to me unknown, magazine.
But suddenly I found myself looking at a full page. On me...
And C., run out of words, stared at me.
The same disbelief.
(Yes, I grew few inches ;) )

'Il y a un parfum de crise'

In normal circumstances, July 21 is the date a new government gets presented after elections.
Yet, this year, we're August 17, and no news on a new government...
'Il y a un parfum de crise', and for the first time we definitely seem to understand the impact of the dispute between Flemish and Walloons. Which to me is more political than anything else...

Such a 'crisis' that our king, Albert II, is even interrupting his vacation and is going to have talks with all the parties.
This is definitely 'big news' as our king ain't nothing but a symbol for unity by representing the country in public functions and international meetings.

Clearly this crisis cannot be taken lightly, as the main problem is the evolving separation of Belgium into Flanders, Brussels and Walloon.

Whahaaaaaan, some of us predicted this all along. Wondering what's next...

- I am looking for cranberry juice to make a new cocktail, did you know it is really not that easy to find cranberry juice??

Looking for a new roommate

Ha! You must think 'There is a lot of walking in and out at Ine's place'.
Indeed. Bjorn and I rented an apartment one year ago. We had a misfit roomie who left because sharing a house wasn't what she hoped for, and then Marieke took her place.

And today Bjorn will be moving to the other part of the country to live with his girlfriend.
A pity, since he is/was the best roommate we could hope for: nice guy, clean(!), smart, a social.

But then again, I am sure there are more men on the world that fit this description.

So if you are out there and looking for a wonderful apartment with two lovely women, let us know.
We have a wonderful apartment, near the Visserij, with all luxury included.
It is actually a 2 floor penthouse with 3 sleeping rooms, bathroom, 2 wc's, a huge living space and kitchen, a wonderful terrace (actually 2), a parking spot which can be used since we don't have a car, an elevator, and it is all brand new (one year old that is)
It is close to the E40, close to Dampoort, and on a 3min drive for the centercenter of Ghent.

The perfect person is 25-35 years old, open-minded, design-minded, non-smoking and has a job to attend. (We prefer a guy, but since we are open minded girls certainly make a chance too :) )
By preference you don't have too many furniture to take along since, well, space is limited and we like to keep it 'postmodern' ;) )
A washing machine and/or dishwasher is a plus :)))

Bicycle

Ok, I am definitely snobbish...
My bicycle got stolen last month, I checked with my accountant, and I can buy a new one on my company because I do use it for work.
So since sales are around, I started checking..

The best buy option is a Trek, life time guaranteed bicycle for 365 euro (VAT included)

Or there is the Sirrus Women, for 499 (VAT included)

My mind says to opt for the Trek, as it is only a bicycle, it is more than enough for what I need, and bicycles can get stolen easily. And it is only a bicycle, you know.
My heart on the other hand... My heart loves the divine beauty of the latter: the lines, the shape, the details. Especially the details.

e-Passports

A research team in cryptography from the Catholic University of Louvain (Louvain-la-Neuve) disclosed serious weaknesses in the Belgian biometric passport, the only type of passport distributed in Belgium since the end of 2004.
The work carried out in Louvain-la-Neuve during the course of May 2007 show that *Belgian passports issued between end 2004 and July 2006 do not include any security mechanism to protect the personal data* embedded in the passport's microchip.
Passports issued after July 2006 do benefit from security mechanisms but these ones are flawed.
This means that anyone possessing a little electronic reading device, which is easy and cheap to acquire, can steal the passport content while it is still in the pocket of the victim owners and thus without their knowing. Face and signature are among the data at risk.
This news is all the more surprising because Karel De Gucht, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, declared in the Parliament on 9th January 2007 that the Belgian passport benefited from the security mechanisms advocated by the International Civil Aviation Organization.

Gildas Avoine, Kassem Kalach, and Jean-Jacques Quisquater (leader of the
crypto group at UCL) found that first-generation Belgian passports fail to include any security mechanism that would ensure the protection of personal data. The researchers carried out a demo that showed it was possible to read first generation passport from a short distance, potentially while it is still in the pocket of a prospective victim.

Another Black Sunday...

It is truly sad to see how people become conservative once things go well in your country.

I think we forget how lucky we are to live in Belgium, not to live in a country in war, or in a poor country. A country with social rights, with decent health and social security. With pensions that aren't that bad, when you compare it to the nearing countries.
It indeed proves that Flemish people are narrow minded, and conservative when it comes to sharing.

Heck, for whatever we have, 98% of the others are poor. Poor as in: no 14.000 euro on a bank account.

Today I am tempted to become an expat again.

Police On Web

Barely a day after introducing Police on Web, my bicycle got stolen in our underground garage. We called 101, but they called back asking us to make the declaration online. Which I did today (I had to find my token, since I have no e-ID yet)

Police On Web is easy.
You log in, fill in the fields confirm and that's it.
I have to say the forms are very clear and easy, and it certainly is a lot easier than going to the police office, wait and see someone fill in a document in an old typewrites (as a matter of speaking ;) )

Now, I'll have to wait for the second part: will or won't they find the bicycle back...

I have no clue who to vote for.
I mean: I truly believe 'purple' did not so bad. Face it: our economy is blooming (and I know for sure as I am working in the last segment: publishing. It's the first one they cut money on when things go bad.)
I don't want CD&V to rule the country.
I don't like the 'C' in their name. It stands for 'conservative' in my eyes... (Yes I am gay, and yes I know they cannot take away what they gave during the last 8 years)
What bothers me is that you seem to vote for a Prime Minister these days and not for a group of politicians.
I cannot imagine Letherme as the leader of this country. I wonder what will change then.
Johan van de Lanotte then?
Admit the little movie rocks. :)
But when I read the lines, I cannot help but think 'where will the money come from?'

The difference

Yesterday I went to the shop to check for the Canon G7. It looks like a large Lomo, same texture; decent material, and a flash feet. I guess that's why I like it even more.

My intention was simple: go check the cam in a shop and buy it online, because it is cheaper.

I went to shop F in center of town, and when I asked to see the cam and have the battery on to test it, the guy said: 'The battery is flat.'
And then 'You can come back next week when it is loaded.'
He was very specific about coming back 'during the week'. (Probably because a Saturday 'is too busy'?)

So today I went to shop M out of town. (I really wanted to see the cam and feel it before buying it online)
The battery was flat too.
But the guy ran around, checked the computer, found another cam and let me try it out for 20 minutes.
Everything I asked him, he knew, and he really helped me to get to know the camera better. And I was in instant love. (With the camera that is ;) )

The difference with the online buy was 20 euro. Not to mention the waiting time (online offering can take a while) and availability (here I was sure to take a camera home)

So I bought it.
Why? Because his knowledge and his service convinced me.

New Photo Backpack

In 3 weeks I am traveling abroad for work.

I used to have a splendid backpack for my camera but it kind of broke due to over-use.
Yesterday I ran into a shop in Mechelen, and I saw the professional succeeder of my bag. They didn't have the small size, so I ordered it today at one of my favorite local shops.
Delsey started a while ago with photo bags, and some how they are pretty practical, and rather stylish compared to other bags.
Foto konijnenberg doesn't offer them, actually a lot of shops don't offer them. Which is a pity.

Emma online

Yesterday I was part of a jury at KHM Mechelen (and I am not gonna tell any outcomes as I know some of the students are reading this blog ;) )

One of the projects of the students was the Emma ARP game (am I saying it right) and we got a look into the scenes of the game.
I admit, I haven't followed the game that much, since, well, I think the whole Emma series sucks, and en plus, I don't have a TV.
I do remember some blogs posting about it, especially about being invited for the press conference which was held a little unluckily in the middle of the day.(Now I also remember that the bloggers complained about that, but heck they didn't complain about Microsoft doing the same, with the new Vista included. *It is so damn easy to break down everything...*)

I was nicely surprised
1) to see the stats of the sites. There are a lot of people participating (4626) ! And it is mainly their target audience. So hip hip huraah for the designers and developers.
2) to be introduced to the games as they are not a real ARP, but an easier variant. I like them. It is not die hard, but still something anybody might want to play. (if they have plenty of time that is)
3) to see the web of games that were developed, to see the different sites on paper, and get a grasp on how such a thing grows.
4) to see a sneak preview of the final game, and I think it will rock. So I advise you all (especially the bloggers with plenty of critics on the matter ;) ) to peep into the thing again.

Threadless Summer Sale

I definitely went a bit shopping crazy when seeing this announcement: Threadless is doing Summer Sales...
The result? Something like 6 tees that should be on their way. If the post office get's back to work that is. Otherwise I might receive them at the end of summer. Or something like that...

Which one you wonder? This for sure is one of my favs. Will be surprising you with the rest during summer.

Emma

Our prime minister made a website for kids.
As LVB, I think the site is meant to adults more than to kids anyway.
But I have to say I was rolling on the floor when seeing the story of Emma, the Prime Ministers' dog.
Imagine our Prime Minister walking around with his dog in Wetstraat 16. C'mon, kind of a joke.
Really...
Anyhooo, I liked it. I like the stories of Emma. And I like her Gentish accent.
Not sure if it is all very effective.
But again: this is the new way of campaigning, whether we like it or not.

Chocolate Mousse

Having a BBQ today, and decided to go for this little thing. Can't get enough of chocoloate...

Ingredients

* 5 eggs
* 140g of dark chocolate
* 1 teaspoon of instant coffee
* 1 table spoon of rhum, Grand Marnier, or Amaretto (only if you want to)
* 3 table spoons of sugar

Preparation

* Very slowly melt the chocolate with the instant coffee. Be careful not to burn it.
* Separate the eggs into egg white and egg yolk. Make sure to keep the egg whites free of yolk, in a clean bowl.
* Beat the egg white, with one table spoon of sugar.
* Mix the egg yolk with two table spoons of sugar and one table spoon of rhum.
* Mix the egg yolk into the molten chocolate.
* Very carefully mix the beaten egg white and the chocolate.
* Pour into small bowls or glasses and store in a cool place.

The chocolate mousse is at its best after one or two days.

Insurances

I visited my insurance guy today.
Some weeks ago I called him for a professional insurance: as an independent you better have some insurances in case something happens (like breaking a Chinese vase at your client or so :) )

Few years ago, I already checked a lot on insurances, travel insurances that is...
The conclusion was rather simple: double check, since any way or another you'll be paying several stuff double.
Hat tips on the matter:
-If you travel for not longer than 3 months, your social insurance is covering most of the necessities, except for when you go to countries in war. So no need for that extra travel insurance.
-If you go longer, or to a country in war, opt for a Europe Assistance.
-Travel and cancallation insurance for each trip: a waste of money, ask your bank for a MasterCard Gold, pay 30 euro a year, and you get a lot of extra stuff, cancel insurance, anti-loss and anti-theft included as well.
-For a good camera and or portable check Dexia or KBC for a decent theft insurance, but be aware it won't come cheap.
I discovered I was paying several stuff twice, and I can tell you, it wasn't because I am stupid ;)

But back to the 'normal' insurances: the motorcycle, the fire insurance, the BA and whatever.
After some calculations of my great insurance guy, it turned out I get the whole package (fire, property, theft, family insurance, professional insurance, and the motorcycle) for the same price I was paying the motorcycle insurance.
I can tell you I didn't hurt to sign those new contracts.
The best thing: he proposed to check this stuff before I mentioned it.

My advise: find yourself a good insurance guy, and have your insurances checked.

Try to locate them on one spot as you'll get good package deals. (I mean really good package deals.)

Frankly speaking, I really decided not to give it to my bank directly (though my insurances are actually with the same bank now, through the agent.)
The service of a good agent is really worth the extra pennies when you'll be in trouble (I can assure you it is really nice to call someone who runs for you.)

Calling your agent is one phone call, and you'll might be surprised about the money it saves you.
I'll be spending the 300 euro elsewhere ;)

Stuck in mail

Our postal offices are on strike since... Hell, dunno, seems for a long time.

What I didn't receive yet:
-mobile bills
-paper to vote
-paper to pay the annual taxes
-rabobank subscripton (hey they pay 3.4 % compared to 1.5 of Fortisbank)
-probably a lot of other bills since the rest mostly arrives by email.

I am already foreseeing some money aside, or there might be a surprise suddenly..

Stripped down

Becoming 30 feels like a bless.
Unlike my mom back then, I haven't 2 children nagging around, and I actually have a nice job, providing me with money I can spend on whatever I feel like.
So, unlike people who freak out at thinking three zero, I feel quite happy.
I am finally losing some of my nervousity, and am (finally?) calming down.

Yet, I do feel it is the perfect moment to check some stuff.
Re-think the road I have been taking and if it was the way I intended it. If not, if it was good or bad to switch paths.

Back to basics too.
I like back to basics. To simple lines. And details.

I started out with this site. A re-design.
Putting the dead-line today was surely the intention.
Stripping off the extra's too.

After several years of blogging, and adding too many extra's, I stripped them.
Yet, trying to implement/leave the stuff I think worthwhile.
Verify the subjects I have been pondering about. Skipping those that bored me after all.
More focus on the stuff that is important.
Maybe even aim at more content again (like in the early days)

Stripping down a lot of other stuff too.
While the last few years have been totally focussed on internet and new media, I love the idea that lately I re-found fun in photography.
And I am actually enjoying being out side picturing real life, instead of observing this other space amalgam( ;) )

I don't know what the future will bring.
And actually, that's why I like it :)

Btw: no need to change your feed: indeed thanks to Feedburner it stays the same.
People who formerly surfed to Typepad instead of Monuments.nu need to change directions.
And please, for linklove, refer to monuments.nu instead of other stuff. Much appreciated!

The Dutch section also relocated. Tout nu is the new destination :)

Last Fm

When I started with Last FM back in 2004 on John's advise, I liked the idea because I didn't have to do anything. The audioscrobbler just scrobbles. And indexes your music.
In the beginning, 'my recommended radio' wasn't good. But now after 22000 songs and probably also after the system got more input, I really like it...
It's radio but without the annoying sound of voices, or stupid contests (where women eat toe nails to win a festival ticket.???)
Last Fm rocks.
